I feel in order to make an appropriate decision here that we would need to have you post a picture of yourself in the "thong" and that way we could all make an informed decision. ;) :teeth: :cool1: :rotfl2:

:confused3 When in Rome, do as the Romans do. What's the big deal about that? If I were in Brazil I'd expect people to dress as the Brazlians do. WDW is not in Brazil. Why assume people would get freaked out about seeing thongs in Brazil just because they don't expect to see thongs at Disneyworld?

And my response to the OP... if you have to ask, I think you already know the answer. Personally, I couldn't care less, but obviously some people will. If you don't want to offend anyone, wear a suit with more coverage. If you want some attention, let it all hang out.
My only point about bringing up Brazil is that most other countries are not nearly as paranoid about swimwear as Americans. The OP is from Miami and should already realize that a skimpy bikini is not appropriate from an activity standpoint. I just wish as Americans we could learn to be more accepting of other cultures. While laying on Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro a few months ago there were several Americans around us. They were rude and loud and kept commenting on the Brazilians. I was shocked and appalled that they thought the Brazilians were out of line for wearing skimpy bikinis! I have never been so embaressed for my country. Even in foreign countries many Americans think everyone should conform to their way of thinking/doing things. :earseek:

Relax people, its a butt. A rear end. A backside. Can, hindquarters, keister, posterior, rump, tooshie, behind, derriere, heinie. I'm sure I'm forgetting a few, so feel free to contribute.

It's a bum folks, get over it. If my two year old daughter asked my why she could see somebody's bum, I'd laugh with her and tell her I don't know.

And to the people that say taking this the next logical step would have people flaunting their genitailia all over the parks, I would submit that taking THIER reasoning to its next logical step would have everybody wearing those burka's that many cultures force their woment to wear.

Yes its a family park. No, I'm not concerned that seeing somebody's bum will hurt my family.

And since I'm on this soapbox...I beg to disagree with whomever eluded to the suggestion that people wearing a thong to a family water park was not there to "flash" us...come on, please. Why would you go dressed like that if not to gather stares :earseek: , some people really do seek the attention-good or bad.
Not everyone who wears a skimpy bathing suit is there to gather stares. Most European women wear bathing suits that as Americans we find much too revealing. They are just wearing exactly what they would wear at home. You will see mothers holding small children, who are definitly not out to gather attention.

1) Tough to tell if the thong is inappropriate.
2) Send me a full frontal photo and full rear photo and I'll let you know.

Ok, as a retired model who used to live on South Beach, I can say with authority that people who wear thongs don't do it because it's more comfortable, they like it because they like people looking at their butt.

And I don't think Disney's about showing off like that.

I mean, honey, wait until night falls and you can go shake your moneymaker at a club or something, because all you're doing is making the rest of us share in your need for attention.

And, (sigh) I'm just better looking than you even fully dressed, so give it up.

(sarcasm card held firmly in hand)

I'm not a retired model, but I completely agree with Disneyrsh. I love what you said. Also it's a family park...why would you even consider wearing a thong bikini there!! Wear a thong on the beach not to Disney...whether it's allowed to not.

I do believe that road goes both ways. I've seen plenty of visitors from other countries who break driving laws, don't speak English, physically abuse people, take things which don't belong to them, and urinate in public simply because "that's the way they do it back home." I have also seen obnoxious Americans complaining because things weren't being done "right", without a thought as to what the local culture considers acceptable. When in Rome, do as the Romans do. Just because they go au naturel back home doesn't mean it's acceptable everywhere else(try that in Saudi Arabia!)

Anybody with an ounce of sense would know not to wear a thong to a water park. Bruised butts and scraped behinds look stupid no matter how shapely they are.

I kind of agree with BostonRob on this one. It's a butt, who freaking cares LOL

The OP said she comes from Miami, which honestly is NOT Rome. Whoever made that reference....come on here people. Miami is like 2 hours away. Things there are a bit different, a little more lax, but I can see why the OP would ask the question.

I don't think Disney has any "real" rules about the type of suit you wear. So, if you are comfortable, wear the thong. I guess my opinion is you will get similar reaction at the WP that you did on this thread, so don't be offended if you see some parents giving you dirty stares. Disney is a family park, correct, but that doesn't mean there are rules about dress. What these people are saying honestly, is it's their common courtesy rule...please don't show your ***.

It's Disney. Might be a family park but I've seen a lot worse, more disgusting, and inappropriate things there besides someone with a thong on.

I have a VERY hard time believing that they aren't at all trying to get at least a tiny bit of attention on them. No matter where a person is from, people will dress in certain ways that will get them noticed. Whether it's a job interview, out to a nice dinner...or even a water park. If they truly didn't care about how they looked, people would dress as slobs. But they don't most of the time. Instead, they go to get the nicest dress they can find, the "cutest" bikini, etc. It's why people compare themselves to each other....or even why people post on this thread with this need to share their opinion. Why? Because people like to know that someone is giving them attention.

And for those who keep saying that "most European women" dress in this certain way...I really have to wonder if they've truly tabulated every single European woman to come up with this so called "most of them" number. Or for that matter, how apparently only Americans have modesty standards or something...as though people have counted every single last individual in the world to know that Americans are the ONLY group who prefer not to dress in "such ways."

Just wondering...do they make a thong in a size 22? We're planning our next trip and I want to be sure I've packed appropriately. Note to self--extra large bottle of sunscreen.

I did not read this entire thread, but did want to say that when we were at WDW in 1996 we saw two women in thongs. I am thinking it was at TL, but it could have been at BB. Anyway, just an FYI. This was a while back, so I don't know if Disney has any rules about it now.

I am going to wager a guess that you've never been to Miami.

If you have, you'd understand perfectly why this question was asked. Honestly...you're in the minority there if you don't wear a thong. My bet is the OP is surprised at the responses on this board, because she was generally asking, probably assuming it was fine. As soon as I saw the title I thought oh boy, look out. G-rated posters are gonna go nuts.

Location has absolutely nothing to do with whether or not a person is even in the slightest bit trying to get attention. It may come as a shocker, but even people in Miami are trying to get attention. And for the record, yes I have been to Miami. And to a Miami beach (during a very busy time when the beach was FILLED with people, primarily college age students and a small bit older where you'd think many of them would be dressing less). And no, I wasn't in the minority (much to the contrary of this "most everyone" song some posters keep singing). Not everyone feels a need to show off their rear ends.

When I go on vacation, I dig our some of our "Disney-wear" vacation wardrobe. Since you are going on vacation, wear a "Disney-wear" appropriate swimsuit. This is a family friendly destination. Save the thong for a Sandals island vacation... :sad2:

I don't believe I said that people don't EVER do it for some attention.

My point is that when you are familiar with something, it seems normal to you. That's why the question was asked.

I've also been to a Miami beach fillled with people and interestingly enough, I saw more bare buns than covered. So I guess it's interesting how different our experiences were.

If you go down any fast, steep water slide, any bathing suit you wear will become a thong.....at least temporarily. :rotfl:

How true! :rotfl2:

Seriously, don't wear a thong though, i wouldn't even wear a two piece to a water park. Two piece tops have the tendency to come off on long slides like they have at Blizzard Beach, and you'll only make a fool of yourself. I like the way i look in two pieces, but i'd rather come down the slide with my bathing suit in tact than be down at the bottom waiting for my top. Just my two cents.

Why do you care? Why does a person's motivation for wearing a thong matter to you?

:rotfl2: Exactly my thoughts. I won't even go into detail beyond what you've just said LOL

We're not a bunch of provincial idiots who expect the rest of the world to conform to our cultral mores. Not all of us, anyway. ;) But it's a moot point. Since WDW is not in Brazil, it doesn't really matter what's considered "normal" swimwear in Brazil.
