When you said you see nothing unethical about going to a store and making a return, do you mean that as long as a person is honest about their intent (even if the intent is to use something for a one-time event and then return it), it is ethical to at least try for a return (?). I'm still not totally sure I agree (if I understood you, that is), but I think I see your point. If the store accepts it, can we really complain?
Only on the dis do I spend this much time pondering hypothetical situations.![]()
Yup, that's exactly what I'm trying to say. If the person is lying, then they are being unethical. But if a person honestly tells the store the situation, it's up to the store to decide how to handle it.
If someone walks into Wallmart and says "I've worn these flip-flops for the last 2 months, but now it's October so I want to return them" that's not unethical. Stupid, yes. A waste of time, yes. But I have a hard time seeing how it's unethical.
NOW... if someone buys a dress, knowing full well that they only intend to wear it once, sticks the tags in the neckline so as not to remove them, wears the dress all night, and goes to the store and says "I bought this last week for my daughter, but it just didn't fit her when I got it home and she tried it on." Well yeah... that's totally unethical.
And yes, it's very entertaining to realize how much of one's life is spent pondering other people's hypothetical ethical dellemma (or is that delemna) on the dis.
