The Dis can debate this for 40 pages ;)

Why not call the store and ask them what their policy is?

Thank you. It's amazing the questions on the Dis. I'm sure they get lots of returns after special events with shoes and dresses worn once. My guess is that was the intention all along.

I work retail and I loathe the serial returners, or the dishonest abusers.

That said, I would go to the returns desk and tell them the truth. If they accept the return, then you're good.

It doesn't matter what your mom or the DIS thinks, it only matters what the store allows.

This is what irks me about the Dis. All the posters who say "No" based on their own assumptions or experience when the correct answer is obviously "Yes". It's Nordstroms for goodness sake. For a customer service issue, it's a no brainer. They won't give you a hard time at all.

I don't know why you'd think that. The poster explained exactly what her experience was. Do you have some reason to believe she's lying?

I have seen some amazingly incorrect answers over the years.

Nordstrom has the BEST return policy. They will let you return them having been worn.

I'd take them back.

Since you bought them at Nordstrom, you can definitely return them. Nordstrom is one of those stores where you can bring back things even after wearing several times if you're not happy and they will refund it.

There is some benefit to the higher cost of their merchandise :)

This has been my experience with Nordstrom as well. I wouldn't wait too long to go in tho..just out of courtesy. Sorry they didn't work out for you, especially since you went to the effort of finding a comfortable pair and ended up with the opposite :upsidedow Hope the wedding was fun, and that flip-flops saved the day!:worship:

Since it's Nordstrom, I think you can take them back.

Nordstrom will take back anything, pretty much. What they will do is clean up those shoes and sell them in Nordstrom Rack as "refurbished." I see that all the time. In fact, I bought a pair of Asics Gel Kayano's that go for $130. I got them for $45. They looked as if they had never been worn but they had a big, old "refurbished sticker on them. The sales person told me that people often order shoes through the catalog, wear them around and send them back. They clean them up and put them out at the Rack for a fraction of their original price.

I have a NR 8 blocks from me. 8, dangerously close blocks, lol. Luckily I have very little cushion in the monthly budget so I just drive by, but it is great to have when in need of a nicer item or gift.:thumbsup2

Just was coincidentally texting with a friend of mine that works at Nordstrom (so I asked her)...

She said take them back--there should be no issues.

My original thought was no, you can't return shoes that have already been worn, but after reading that Nordstrom has such a nice return policy, I'd say take them back, especially considering that the op paid a fairly high price for them, and will probably not be wearing the shoes in the future since they are uncomfortable.

No, you wore them. That why you should try them on before you by them

I'm sure she did try them on. Who goes to a shoes store and picks a pair of shoes without trying them on:confused3 Even my husband will try them on.

BUT trying them on for 5-10 minutes in a store is NOT the same as wearing them for a few hours and seeing how they actually work. And everything I've read in the past few regarding shoe buying says you should actually wear the shoes for an hour at a time at different times during the day, not JUST in the afternoon when your feet are at their biggest size for the day after having been active.

This is why I no longer buy in brick and mortar stores and stick to Zappos. If the fit is not an obvious problem then I am free to wear them to see if they slip after a bit or dig into the toes after an hour. I'm not saving any money over Nordstrom but the convenience and return policy is well worth the price of the shoes. Zappos is also great because because of my shoe size. Great selection even for me.

I bought a pair of shoes to wear to a wedding. I wanted something comfortable and it was suggested that I get a pair of Cole Haans by the salesguy at Nordstrom. They have Nike Air in them, they are flats, open toe. I wore them to the wedding. They are very soft, too soft in fact, and every few steps the heel smushes and my foot slips out. I ended up taking htem off after the ceremony and putting on flip flops for the reception. Here is the issue, my mom insists they can be returned since I am not happy with them. I was alwayus under the impression that once worn, you can't take them back. The bottoms aren't dirty, but there are some scuff marks that show they were worn. They wre only worn once for about 3 hours, and I do hate them. I got htem at Nordstrom and they were expensive!

Can I return them because I hate them? Or am I stuck with them because they have been worn? I normally would never dream of returning shoes I wore, but my mom insists it is normal.

Honestly? You bought them to wear to a wedding and now you want to return them. Trying to support your return by claiming they were expensive is just an attempt for justification. It doesn't matter what the store's return policy is, you know you wore them and attended the event they were purchased for. Instead of returning them, write to the manufacturer and see what they suggest. Just because a store allows returns doesn't make it right.

yes this is what I was going to say too. return them. Nordstrom is known for their good customer service.

but this is exactly why Nordstrom has such a good policy. you don't know what the shoes are going to feel like til you wear them. You don't really know if you will be happy with something sometimes til you get it home.
would it make a difference if she bought them for work, worked one shift in them and then had to return them for discomfort?

my dh had a pair of snow hiking type shoes from LL Bean, he wore them for a year, the rubber was coming loose around the bottom, so I called to see if he could send them back for repair, they said yes, then ended up sending him a brand new pair back!
this is why I support stores with good policies, even if the product is a little more.

on a side note............anyone watch Good Luck Charlie with the kids? remember the episode where Amy buys the $400 shoes to wear to a dinner one night with the intention of returning them the next day? she puts tape on the bottom! but Charlie ends up getting hold of them and plays in the mud with them, LOL, so no return.
I thought that was funny.

I find it funny that you referenced LL Bean. Besides the fact that LL Bean items are being produced by cheaper manufacturers, it has no bearing on the OP's situation. If Nordstrom offers to return the shoes and provide a refund for worn shoes, so be it. Everyone else purchasing there is helping pay for the return policy. As for what is expensive, that appears to be a relative thing to each shopper. I found it odd that the OP would shop at Nordstrom for shoes for a wedding and is the OP of the 14 Happy Meal thread complaining about special orders and the drive thru. I have an image of an entitled individual and a case of buyer's remorse. Again, that is what I gathered from prior posts on The Dis. Others will have differing opinions.

Yes, and people who chose to shop there know it. They choose to pay more, knowing that part of that purchase price is a company that stands behinds their products and wants their customers to have a positive experience.

You say positive experience and I see someone returning used, worn merchandise.

To Target no, but to Nordstrom yes.

I returned shoes used a month to Target, and they gave me a credit. They were falling apart--used, but so poorly made that they bent their policies. Never hurts to ask.

This is totally how capitalism works. It's not theft or a scam. It's part of Nordstrom's marketing.

Exactly. One can choose to walk into Target, try on some shoes, save some $, and be stuck with them. However, those with the means to do so can shop at more upscale venues, be waited on, and have "insurance," that if the product doesn't meet expectations, it can be returned.

When my kids were little, I used to spend the money on their shoes at Nordstroms. I'd stroller them all in, sit in a comfy chair, and after they were measured, let the salesperson know what styles I was looking for, and she'd gather them all up for me, and try them on my kids.

Now that they're older, sure, we get the cheapy Target shoes. However, when it comes to more expensive shoes (like DH's work shoes - $300+), we're shopping at pricier stores with great customer service (DH has never returned a pair of shoes, so far).

It's Nordstrom's policy. They can have whatever policy they wish.

The thread about the 14 Happy Meals has absolutely nothing to do with this.
