I bought a pair of shoes to wear to a wedding. I wanted something comfortable and it was suggested that I get a pair of Cole Haans by the salesguy at Nordstrom. They have Nike Air in them, they are flats, open toe. I wore them to the wedding. They are very soft, too soft in fact, and every few steps the heel smushes and my foot slips out. I ended up taking htem off after the ceremony and putting on flip flops for the reception. Here is the issue, my mom insists they can be returned since I am not happy with them. I was alwayus under the impression that once worn, you can't take them back. The bottoms aren't dirty, but there are some scuff marks that show they were worn. They wre only worn once for about 3 hours, and I do hate them. I got htem at Nordstrom and they were expensive!

Can I return them because I hate them? Or am I stuck with them because they have been worn? I normally would never dream of returning shoes I wore, but my mom insists it is normal.

I say as long as you have the receipt and are not trying to hide the fact that they have been worn..give it a shot. Many times in retail certain items regardless of wear (undergarments for example) are automatically written off and/or sent back to the manufacturer or such for a credit. I would imagine shoes might fall into that category. Personally I think as long as you aren't deceptive about wearing them it is up to the retailer and their return policy regarding taking the return. It's not like you could predict they would make you miserable.

I think it totally depends on where you got the shoes. I know DSW's return policy is that the shoes must be unworn. Nordstrom is known for their great customer service so they may have a different return policy. I do think in general the answer would be no, you can't return them.

You wore them you own them. Ever wonder why things (the shoes) are so expensive?

Since you bought them at Nordstrom, you can definitely return them. Nordstrom is one of those stores where you can bring back things even after wearing several times if you're not happy and they will refund it.

There is some benefit to the higher cost of their merchandise :)

I would say you are stuck with them. When I buy new shoes, I wear them a bit around the house on carpet to test them out. I would never attempt to return shoes that had been worn out of the house and showed visible signs of wear. Perhaps you could donate them to one of those places that take business wear for women in need of job interview clothing. At least if you are stuck with them you could pass them off to someone who could really use them. :goodvibes

They came from Nordstrom, you can return them. Nordstrom is one of the few retailers who actually seem to care about customer satisfaction.

It is not a fit issue - you didn't make a mistake in sizing, it is a design issue & the shoes are not comfortable. Comfort can be argued to be individually perceived, but your foot shouldn't be slipping out.

Take them back to the shoe department at Nordstrom, explain to them what you've told us. I bet you either get a refund or a in-store merchandise credit.

i voted others. doesnt hurt to try. the worst that can happen is that they say no, it cant be returned...

I'm with others in that since it's Nordstrom, do it! It's a big reason why I pick to go there over other places since they're all about customer satisfaction.

I agree with this.

You didn't buy them with the intention of wearing them once and then returning them. You found that you were not happy with them.

Bring them to the store, be honest about your experience, and see what they say. If they say the shoes can't be returned, just say thank you and move on.

I'm bothered by people who buy with the intention of using and returning, people who are rude or dishonest when returning, and people who have a hissy and insist they're entitled to something they are not.

You are none of those. I think it's the store's call. And it being Nordstrom, I expect they won't have a problem with it. Some companies understand the power of good customer service. :thumbsup2

I don't see why you cannot go back with the shoes. I don't make a habit of returning many things but if I really hate something I take it back. You did not buy the shoes intending to return them after you wore them once. You are returning them because you cannot wear them, they hurt.

I vote return them because it sounds like there's a design issue. However, if I returned them, I'd exchange them for something else. Then it's a win-win for both you and the store. They're being generous with their return policy, and you're showing respect for the policy.

I'm with the posters who say go in, explain the situation and be happy with an in store credit if that's all they offer. Generally, stores will give you a lot more leeway if you just want a credit. Even cheaper stores like Target!

However, Nordstroms generally has a great customer return policy or at least they used to. Years and years and years ago one of my BFFs went in there right after she graduated law school to buy her interview suit (I think her dad and stepmom had gotten her a gift certificate to Nordstrom's just for that purpose) and came out with a whole new wardrobe!

A customer who was BFF's size had come in with all sorts of things that had been bought Pre-safari/extended trip to Africa that she decided she didn't want, post safari/extended trip to Africa, but that had been hanging in her closet for 3 or 4 months, completely tagless. Nordstrom's refunded the money and within an hour BFF turned up and got to pick through the whole lot and bought a bunch of work appropriate clothes and casual clothes for very little. (And yes, she also managed to eek out one interview suit with her funds.)

Since it's Nordstrom, I think you can take them back.

Nordstrom will take back anything, pretty much. What they will do is clean up those shoes and sell them in Nordstrom Rack as "refurbished." I see that all the time. In fact, I bought a pair of Asics Gel Kayano's that go for $130. I got them for $45. They looked as if they had never been worn but they had a big, old "refurbished sticker on them. The sales person told me that people often order shoes through the catalog, wear them around and send them back. They clean them up and put them out at the Rack for a fraction of their original price.

The Dis can debate this for 40 pages ;)

Why not call the store and ask them what their policy is?

When you shop at Nordstorms, you generally are going to pay more $, but they have an excellent return policy, and customer service. My (wealthy) aunt brought a couple of pairs of pants back to Nordstroms, purchased over 20 years ago, because they had some pulls, but since they were her DH's favorite, wanted to make sure to purchase the same ones, or at least similar. Nordstroms (to her surprise) replaced them for free, and she was shocked.

You bought those shoes on the recommendation of the sales person (and I do like to shop there for the personalized help and advice while shopping). I can't imagine they won't take them back.
