Can I pack water bottles in checked luggage?

Is bottled water at WDW that expenive that you are using up valuable suitcase space to bring them from home?

The last time I went bottled water was more than a coke so I always bring from home. I already bought mine on sale at target and had it all packed equally in carryon and checked baggage but now I have to redo it. I am putting mine now in the extra suitcase I'm using for stuff I pick up while on vacation so its not really valuable suitcase space to me yet. :sunny:

For the love of god what is the point to all this? You are not going to to a third world country, I heard they have a Wal-Mart (gasp) and a Publix!

I am just seeing myself on a plane and them announcing -----Sorry Folks we must turn around ...there is an unknown liquid spewing all over the cargo hold!

Please stop the madness!!!! :rotfl2:

I wouldn't do it myself, but with ME a lot of travelers to WDW don't have a car and can't get anywhere off the property...and they don't want to spend $2 a bottle on property.

I used to bring Diet Coke in my carryon back when it was $2.50 a bottle on property, but now that it's $2 I buy my own there. (If you get them from the vending machines, they're still $2.50.) I am just one person, though, and buying for a family could get ridiculously expensive. Bottled water (which I don't buy because I don't drink it) was the same price as Diet Coke. They carry only Dasani water. I can't imagine it myself (after all, it's water) but there are probably a few posters who don't like Dasani water.

For our April trip I bought a case of water and put it in a small suitcase with other snacks. Checked the bag and upon arrival everyting was intact!! We will definately be doing this again in December. It is sooo much cheaper to pay $4 for a case than $2+ per bottle!!! We also bought clips to hook the bottles to our belt loops- it worked great and we did not have to worry about carrying the water or leaving it somewhere. Good luck.

My husband flew about a month ago and decided to try an experiment- he froze several bottles of coke...

Did the Coke taste ok when it thawed out? I can tell you this does not work with beer

I like the case of water in a suitcase. Then I would have an extra suitcase to bring back all the souvenirs and junk we seem to buy or "accumulate".

Yeah- tastes just fine- well I didn't drink his frozen and thawed sodas- but I grew up going to summer day camps where we'd freeze soft drinks to bring each day- I never felt it really changed taste of any of the variety of sodas out there.

And you are right- I don't think it would work as well with beer- although to let you know in the effort to cool hot beer quickly we have put it in the freezer and on more times than one we have have forgotten it until the beer was frozen- tasted fine when slushy even- lol -but he didn't try beer lol- maybe his next trip-

He did the sodas because at $2-$3 in most hotel vending machines it really does pay to travel with it. I have frozen Dt Dr Pepper- but only because there are so many places that just don't carry it that I have to travel to for work- that I'd do without if I didn't. But in the past it was always in my carry on-

I second the previous posts! :thumbsup2

If you get a 6-pack of water for $3 at the store, you save $12 over park price! ($2.50 (in park price) x 6 water bottles = $15 - $3 (you paid at the store). We each go through about 12 water bottles for the whole week and there's 3 of us, so it adds up to a savings of $72!!! That's an extra night at POP! :wizard:

Plus, there's no "valuable space". We bring the suitcase along as our "carry-on" item. Then we put all the souvenirs, towel animals, souvenir maps, etc. in the extra suitcase. It has worked so well in the past, but now with the new restrictions...

I think the idea about shipping the water is probably best, especially since I get free shipping from Staples. Trust me, it's worth having the water bottles! :rotfl:

This is still incorrect. I believe the park price at WDW is $2, not $2.50. 20 ounce bottles are also $2 at the resort stores (if they're run by Disney). The vending machine price is $2.50. They used to be $2.50 resort-wide but the prices were lowered for 20 oz bottles everywhere except the vending machines (definitely in the parks).

Many visitors still prefer to save. I personally don't have a problem with the water fountains or getting a cup of water at a counter service location. I understand some say it tastes funny, but I don't taste anything funny myself. If I'm going to spend cash on a bottle of anything, it won't be plain old water.

The carts and counter service places are great about giving you big cups of ice. In fact one of the CMs told me that when we were trying to figure out if everyone needed his own water bottle. The CM said, "why don't you buy a few and I'll give you ice. Come back if you need more and you won't have to carry the bottles around." He proceeded to give each of us a big cup of ice...

Pretty nice, huh?

Can we still do this? Because I want to for our December trip. Shaws has a 24 pack for 2.99 a case. Its so cheap.

Sorry but why would you want to take water with you? surely you can buy it there in walmart or such? isnt it just adding extra weight to your baggage??

this may have already been said, if it has im sorry for repeating, i havent read the whole thread.

Yeah, that's been mentioned. I think the reason is that some people staying onsite don't have a car to drive over to walmart. One could take a cab I suppose...:confused3

We're going in December and I think I've decided to pack some water bottles, disposable plates and forks/spoons/knives, snacks, and what have you in a small suitcase, since you can check 2 bags per person. It just seems more convenient to me doing it this way than to go through the hassle of shipping a box to yourself and hoping you addressed it correctly and that it comes when/where it's supposed to, or paying cab fare to go to the store. Now if my flight was not a direct flight, this would be a different story :)

The moral of the story is... I'm cheap and will do what I can to save a buck or two :thumbsup2

I'd probably ship it beforehand, rather than risk ruining my luggage or clothing.

We rent a car for WDW though, so we usually do a quick grocery run.

As a point of information, there are 2 Hess Express gas stations on WDW property, both of which sell water at a reasonable, grocery store price. One is near the Boardwalk. You could take a Disney bus to the Boardwalk, then just walk to the corner of the main road and the side road where the Boardwalk is situated, but your water and get back on the bus, go to a park, then change to go to your resort.

The other one is located across the street from DTD. If you took a bus to the Marketplace or PI, you could walk across the street and pick up water, and then take one of the DTD buses back to your resort.

You could also take a cab to either of these places at probably a nominal charge.

I didn't know that there was a gas station so close! We're staying at the swan and could absolutely get our water there! Thanks for the tip!!!

Ok, sorry to get off track, but you can keep the towel animals? Really? I had no idea. We just take pictures and leave them. Who knew!!?!!

Why not just take some empty bottles and fill them up at your hotel and/or water fountains in the parks when they get empty?
You save all the worry about leaking bottles. You don't add any excess weight to your luggage - and if you have a few bottles already at home you save $$ on buying or shipping a whole new case of water.

We ship pop and cereal bowls and everything we need eats wise to our resort. We will use my son's extra checked bag for a couple of bottles of water, sun tan lotions and other liquids we will need for the first day. To those of you that say why not rent a car and go to Walmart. I would not like to go shopping on my vacation I would want to spend as much time in the parks as possible and just have fun.A car just to shop for water seems like and expense I can do without. As for garden grocer its a great Idea but again I want to shop for my stuff when its on sale. I don't want to have to think about how much money I will need to shell out for it. Call me cheap but any money I have on me at the start of my vacation is for gifts and just fun fun fun. When I head home that suitcase is used for gifts or any thing else I want it to be used for.
