Can I pack water bottles in checked luggage?

I just wanted to say that it is still OK to pack water in luggage. I just did this in February. I triple wrapped the bottles in plastic bags.

NOTE: the Poland Spring flip cap bottles LEAK, even when they're sealed! The twist off caps are fine.

I'd probably ship it beforehand, rather than risk ruining my luggage or clothing.

Or other passengers' luggage and clothing! I've had a bottle of wine break in the bag above mine in the cargo section of the airplane - and it soaked through their bag and into mine. So, please - just in case - ship liquids ahead of time. It may not be just your stuff that gets wet. (I know, I know, it's just water. But the other passenger won't - they'll just know there's liquid all over their bag.)
