When renting someones points for a Disney Vacation Club stay, can I call to verify the reservation? I have the letters from the DVC, but I want to make sure everything is set!!

No, to call MS you would have to be a member. The DVC confirmation letter confirms that you have a reservation, and what and where it is for. When you get within a few days, you might be able to call the resort directly, but not sure of that. Yo might be able to have the owner do a conference call with you to make you feel more at ease, but if you have a contract, I would think you are pretty safe with the confirmation letter.

Actually, yes, you can call Member Services, but they can only tell you that your reservation is legitimate, nothing else. When I rent out points I always give the renter the number of MS to verify the reservation, and you should ask for the phone number from the person who rented points to you.--I know members reading this will cringe, but MS actually TOLD me to handle it this way.

I have to say that I am currently renting points for our upcoming trip and our renter (golidlocks_63) and MS have bent over backwards to make things easy for us. MS has been VERY helpful to me. Obviously, I am not able to change the reservation in any way, but they are willing to confirm anything I need. I've had a great rental experience so far and am hoping to be an owner after this trip! I keep lurking here to see if some MAGIC will come my way and DH and I can buy soon!

Yes, you can call MS. The phone number is listed on the confirmation letter.

I've rented on several ocassions and although I have no knowledge that any of my renters have called MS I would encourage them to do so if it made them feel better about the rental. I've discussed this exact issue with MS and they indicate that with the confirmation number they would share the details of the reservation with the renter but, in no instance under any circumstance could the reservation be changed by anyone but the owner.

When you call make it clear that you are a renter and you simply desire to confirm the details. With the confirmation number I expect MS will be happy to help you.

Have a great vacation.

I just asked Member Services this yesterday and they said yes; a person utilizing a member's points may call and verify the reservation.

Is this still true? i am renting my points and would love my renters to be able to call mS just to at least verify that the reservation exsists.
Thought I better check as this is an old thread.

I rented last year before buying and I did call MS to check on my reservation on a few occassions. I had never rented before and this gave me some peace of mind!

They would confirm my name, dates of arrival and at what resort. They would also confirm magical express info and the dining plan.

Hi Guys and Gals, this thread is from 2004!

As of August 2006, MS willonly talk to Members. Non-Members can not verify, or do anything else with Member Services.

Thanks Tony. Thats a shame but at least i know now.

If you provide the original or copy of the reservation confirmation sheet, I would think that would be more than sufficient.

After all, calling MS wouldn't provide any more peace of mind. You could always call the next day and cancel the reservation so it really wouldn't help the person paying for the reservation in any true sense.

I have not had enough coffee yet for this type of confusion!!!:surfweb:

Officially MS "MEMBER" Services will only talk to members, but it really just depends who answers the phone when you call. If you get a CM that won't answer your questions just wait a while and try again. You can call the resort 2 weeks before your arrival, any sooner and they won't have your reservation.

It's too bad dvcmember.com doesn't have a method where you could type in a reservation number and the owners name to have a quick confirmation pop up. True this would be most useful to renter's but I'd like the peace of mind myself knowing that the reservation is set up in the system the way I expect it to be. That way I wouldn't be surprised when any weirdness comes up like it did when I checked in on New Year's Eve only to initially be told my reservation was for one day.

Actually, members can see their current reservations and their past ones as well on the dvcmembers website. I wouldn't want anyone other than my family to have this access, though. So, whenever you use different pots of points to make a single reservation, it shows up that way. We have two different contract numbers and have made a single night with the one contract and all the other nights with the second contract.

I rented points for a stay two weeks back. I called OKW 4 nights before the stay and they confirmed the reservation.

Beware of renting points... it will make you want to JOIN!! (as I wait for ROFR on my resale...)
