Can I ask a question, Does anyone else not think "People of Walmart" is funny?

The pictures make me extremely uncomfortable. I do not find them funny; mostly scary.

I don't think it's funny at all. It's mean and pretty nasty, IMO.

Yeah, I can have mixed feelings about the Wal-Mart pictures. On the one hand, some the activities people do with dress or actions can be odd to say the least. But on the other hand, it's not good to see people who are suffering from a condition made fun of.

What does make me chuckle is the recent move by HomeLandSecurity. The government has teamed up with Wal-Mart, of all groups, asking for shoppers to report suspicious activities. So I've seen several news reports having fun with this.

Here is one mention of this teaming up for security from this morning.

"Napolitano: Terror Threat Highest Since 9/11 (translation: pick it up a notch, Walmart shoppers!)"

Meanness is the basis for most humor. Is laughing at some guy getting a nut shot mean? Yes, why would you ever want to see another human being in pain? But is it still funny? Also yes. You know what I find disturbing? The Three Stooges. What is funny about three men who are co-dependent and constantly verbally, emotionally and physically abusive to one another? Apparently a lot. So really, it's all a matter of your personal level of where "mean" becomes "amusing".

Some are downright mean, racist, sexist, gross, etc and some are just unbelievable and then some are funny. It is a mixed bag.

Hell my 8th grade dd came home and told me about the kids who were laughing when the guy got killed in the Holocaust movie they were watching ("Life is Beautiful"). She of course was holding back tears and a couple of kids were saying how "they" deserved it. It is a sick world we live in.....:sad2:

I think it's funny, and I laughed when I saw the photos, but...

It's wicked to mock the afflicted.

Doesn't mean I don't enjoy being wicked sometimes, but I really shouldn't seek out opportunities online. Just riding the bus to downtown usually provides me with all the amusement I need anyway. ;)

So I'm off to laugh at adorable kitties on Cheezburger instead!

I think it's funny. And I laugh when people fall down too. :lmao:

I'm not perfect. Those that are, feel free to judge. :woohoo:

You know, people used to pay to go see lunatics abused in a madhouse. They thought it was a lot of fun too. Luckily our sensibilities seem to have evolved from that stage. Hopefully we will evolve beyond this as well.

I have a friend who does stand-up comedy. Her basic rule is that you can poke fun at anyone who has an equal or higher social rank than you do. Anyone who is weaker or more vulnerable than you is off limits. Some people will think it's funny, sure, but lots of your audience will be uncomfortable or even offended. And an offended audience is not a happy audience.

As a mentally ill person living on disability, that gives her lots of legitimate targets! However, some topics are off still limits. She won't make fun of the terminally ill, or mentally disabled (ie. someone with Downs Syndrome).

Anyone remember Rush Limbaugh mocking Michael J. Fox's Parkinsons symptoms? NOT funny to many people! On the other hand, John Stewart mocking Glenn Beck is hilarious, because they're equals.

I think the site is funny. I laughed at the pictures posted on badshoe.com. Is that one still around? I thought the site with pictures of people in the parks (WDW & DL) was funny. There was a site with pictures of kids on leashes and big kids in strollers. Both were funny.

Yes, I laugh. I think alot of the photos are funny, but some are not. I also have had my picture posted online and looked at by strangers and laughed at, ever hear of FB? I don't care because I have the ability to laugh at myself, and like some posters have said, if you go out looking ridiculous you should expect some ridicule.
Sure. My picture is on Facebook, too - and it's funny. Not as funny as the last one, but still.

BUT! I put it there!!!! That's a HUGE difference from being judged by a stranger to be so odd-looking or oddly dressed that THEY take your photograph and post it on a site of which the SOLE purpose is for people to laugh and deride.

I just saw this website for the first time today at work. I checked my email at work today to find a bunch of pics from that site in it that someone sent. I apparently must live under a rock because I've never really been familar with it. For those who don't know, it's a website where people take pictures of total strangers they see at Walmart & then post them on the website so everyone can make fun of their clothing choice or how heavy they are.

The thing is, I seem to be the ONLY person who thinks this is so cruel. I checked out the site & it's not just "funny clothing" they're making fun of, I've seen people making fun of the eldery for missing teeth, an elderly man for being hunched over, & the comments are shocking. I mean there's one where they're making fun of an overweight child & these grown adults are calling the kid fattie & making cruel jokes. I never really considered myself an overly sensitive person but I kid you not 99% of the people I know all think this website is the greatest on earth. I feel horrible for these people though, I mean I may not agree w/ their choice of style but to make fun of them for the world to see? It just seems so horrible to me :sad2: Just out of curiousity, does anyone else not find this site funny?

I am in the 'yes' and 'no' camp.

No, I don't think it funny at all to make fun of kids or physical traits. Kids often cannot control what their parents buy them and I find making fun of physical traits such as weight or age downright mean spirited.

However, as others have said, how you dress to go out in is completely in your control. If you choose to make a spectacle of yourself, then yes, I find that amusing.

If you are seeking attention by wearing bizarre outfits, then you should expect to get that attention, even if it is a picture in peopleofwalmart.com

I should add that I don't find it funny in a "ha, ha, you are weird" way. I guess I find the website more interesting than downright funny. It is amusingly interesting to see how people define themselves and what they choose to make a statement. I do have to admit that some of the choices do make me giggle, but not in the "how awful they must be if they wear that outfit" type of amusement. More of a giggle at what an interesting choice they made and wonderment that they had the nerve to go out in public like that.

I hate that website. I don't understand the overwhelming need people have to make fun of others.

And I think that it's incredibly hypocritical for us, as a society, to get angry when we hear about a kid who commits suicide because he's being bullied and then turn around and laugh at people because of the way the look.

There is nothing that is so special about me that gives me the right to mock other people for the sheer joy of it.

Until we stop and remember that what's in a person's heart is so much more important than what is covering his or her body, we're all just adding to the problem instead of helping to solve it.

I haven't seen the website, but I do not think the premise sounds funny to me.

I also agree that the people wearing outlandish and ridiculous clothes are well aware of how they are dressing, and know that they are going to garner attention wherever they go.

I'm also one of those that doesn't read the comments or anything on any website I go on. If I wanted a forum I'll come on the Dis ;)

The pictures of kids or elderly with physical issues (overweight, hunched over, etc) are not funny... but I'm pretty sure that there are 2 of those for every 100 people in funny clothes.

I think it's mean also. Who is anybody to judge others? I checked it out once just to see what it was all about and was shocked at how many people riducule others.

I have enough worries in this life without worrying if someone is going to take a picture of me because my socks don't match
