Ok, I am a first time cruiser and a avid scrapbooker. I am trying to compile of all the must-take photographs for our 4-night Wonder cruise in January.

Please help- let me know your favorite "Do Not MIss" photos and anything that a first timer might overlook.

Thanks,
Tammy

Dont miss taking pictures of the terminal, ship in port, your stateroom (exterior and interior), restaurants, food, decks, pools-ok just take your camera everywhere you go and take pictures all the time! LOL:D

It really is true to just take your camera everywhere you go. After seeing everybody else's pictures, I realized I missed out on ALOT!! And I really thought I took alot, which is what amazes me! Some pictures I could kick myself for not taking are...
the model ship in the terminal (just more pictures of the terminal period)
Mickey greeting us when we came in (although in my defense I never saw him because I was such in awe of the ship, now that I know he's there, I'll try to take it next time)
leaving the terminal
more detailed pictures of the restaurants (I took maybe one of each)
better pictures of the outside of the ship to show just how huge it is
and definately more pictures of Castaway Cay that shows what the island is all about

As a scrapper I have learned that you can never take too many pictures and it helps to take numerous pictures of the same shot because they all might come in handy. My next trip I am stocking up on film!

My advice - Take more film than you think you will possibly need! I ended up with 6 rolls from our 4 day cruise in '98 and plan on packing at least 12 rolls for our upcoming 7 day cruise. Like the other posters said, take your camera everywhere. Use it to really document where you went and what you did. Couple more "not to miss" photo ops that I can think of are:
  • Photo of the front of your stateroom door (with number)
  • Picture of all the towel animals your host/hostess leaves for you. These make a great page.
  • Get up early one AM and take pics of the pools/decks before they get crowded
  • You can get a great shot of the ship while at CC.
  • Don't forget to save a clean copy of your daily Navigator to include in your layouts
  • If you don't already have a copy of CK's Disney Pages book, it's worth buying one.
Most of all, make it a point to jot down a few notes each evening about the day's events. I have a hard time remembering if I don't! I have a link below to some of my cruise pages. They're under the album. Newest Pages
Have fun and I look forward to seeing your pages :D

My photos on Webshots

Take a picture of your cabin before you take any of your suitcases inside.

We came home telling everyone about the food, but did not have any pictures of any of the food (buffets, Palos brunch, etc.) to show them.

We took pictures of our DS in the life jacket at the safety drill on the first afternoon that made a good page.

We also forgot to take pictures at the Captain's party and the Castaway Club party!

I do not know if you have children, but we took our camera with us when we would drop off/pick up DS at the club and we got some really good pictures of him in there.

We also made sure we had pictures of our stateroom host, head server, server and assistant server.

I could probably go on forever so I will stop here.

LOL -- I just love this thread!!!!

If you find that you are missing anything, go ask for another one! I went back to Guest Services to get another copy of our first day's Navigator, another copy of the map of the ship, and another copy of the map of Castaway Cay.
We saved copies of the luggage tags (both the ones for arriving and leaving). In the drawer in the "desk" were a few sheets of pretty "Disney cruise" paper and a few envelopes; I made sure to bring them home with me too! I took pics of the signs outside of each restaurant. I made sure to take pics from both sides of our stateroom (both from the door looking in and from the veranda looking toward the door). I went up to deck 10 to take a full view pic of the Mickey pool. There were also lots of great opportunities for pics at Castaway Cay: the sign that says "Welcome to Castaway Cay" and the sign as you are leaving. We also bought a few extra Castaway Cay postage stamps to use in the scrapbook. The gift shops have some great post cards to buy and use in your scrapbook as well. Although you aren't allowed to take pics of the shows (Hercules and Disney Dreams), I made sure to take pics of the empty theater and then pics of my family sitting there waiting for the show to start. I took pics of some of our food/drinks (the mickey ice creams at dinner, the huge cookies from room service, the buffet lunch, cherries jubilee). Animator's Palatte has come great photo ops as the room changes. Parrot Cay has beautiful "leaf" sculptures surrounding the windows so I sat the kids in one window and took their pic. Tritons has a little parade of nations and the waiters walk through with their flags. Also be sure to take pics of your waiter and asst. waiter. Parrot Cay also had a congo line and limbo as a show in the middle of dinner -- lots of fun pics!

Sorry this isn't in any organized format -- just a flow of ideas!

Have fun and happy scrapping!

One more thing to do, send yourself a postcard from Castaway Cay. Can't credit myself with this idea but saw this in Cass's (aka Timon) scrapbook and loved it!

kellyb2000,

thanks for the credit ;)

I just recently finished my DCL scrapbooks and have posted them online. You can see my pictures that I took and maybe get some more ideas from that. I took about 18 rolls with me and bought about 5 more in St Maarten! But in my defense to those who are laughing their heads off at me right now....It was our FIRST cruise AND I knew I wanted to do a scrapbook and to get the "right" pictures for your album, you need a lot to choose from.

One other suggestions, other than the already great ideas posted is the shot from Paradise Point in St Thomas (if you're doing the Eastern)...it was well worth the $$$$ for the ride up! It's one of my faves!

You can see my SB if you follow the link below!

Have fun....I LOVED scrappin my cruise photos cuz I relived a magical, memorable vacation!!!

How did you get the emblem on your ship for the title page? It looks just gorgeous!!

cinda65,

The little ship on my first page is actually from the breakfast menu that you get on the ship, which I just cut out :)

We purchased postcards on board ship and on CC. Laminate them and trim for unique photos you may not get on your own.
This year we hope to do one scrapbook page for the people we meet on the cruise. Take that camera everywhere.
Our photo processing bill last year was $120.00

I don't do pure scrapbooking, but I do digital version. We have a digital camera that I just love. With some great software called picture it I've made some great scrapbook like montages that work really well. A few things that I've included in our books:

The key to the world cards
Navigators from every day
The free postcards that are in the room
Any special notes we get (castaway club invites, etc.).

As for don't miss pictures:
Castaway Cay before the crowds hit
Castaway Cay after the crowds hit
The ship from different points of view (I agree with a previous poster that the view from paradise point in St. Thomas is a great one).
The Mickey statue in the atrium of the Magic. Sorry I don't care for the Ariel statue on the Wonder.
Any place that was special for you. For me it is always the veranda.

One thing I never thought of before but will remember on our next trip is the door number. What a great idea!

Mickey4me and Imon - I love your pages. How do you get a 12 x 12 posted on the net? I did a scrapbook of our last trip and can't figure out how to share. This is my first cruise so you both inspired me!

Happy Scrappin'

TK,

I took pictures of my layouts and then scanned them and posted them. For my cruise SB, I used a digital camera, which made it much easier, no scanning! :)

I scan all my pages and upload them (haven't gotten the hang of taking good photos of them yet). I used to have a wide bed scanner that made scanning 12x12 easy. Unfortunately it's not compatible with Windows XP and our new computer :( Now I have to scan the pages one half at a time and stitch them together with photo software. Easy to do, but very time consuming.

Thanks Cass and Mickey4! Mickey, are you really leaving in 10 days for a Magical cruise??? I'm jelous. I'll be looking for your trip report :-) Have a great time!!

Cass - looks like your guy likes Disney like mine does. Aren't we lucky gals!!

We emjoyed collecting all the cards on board the ship (We were able to trade and now are only one short of a full collection). These cards fit nicely in the back of the scrap book using a plastic baseball collector pages that hold nine cards per page. Cool pictures and fun memories of how we went about trading for many of these cards.

Mickey4, did I see your pages in Creating Keepsakes???

Wow Saturday, you're really observant :D. Three of the layouts were in the CK Disney book and 4 more were in different CK issues. Thanks for noticing...

Thought so...you're pages look great!! I may have to "borrow" some of your ideas after our April 2003 cruise!!
