Calling all Princesses! (2014 Princess Half Marathon Weekend)- thread #2

I am in H. My daughter is in B and my dh is in C, but he is going to start in H with me.
I am excited!

Definitely not a silly question, and I'm not really sure of the answer! I submitted two proofs: a 10K that McMillan said supports a 1:58, followed by a quarter marathon (6.55 mile) that runnersworld said supports a 1:50 (could not find the quarter marathon on McMillan.) I know my POT would not support higher than a B or C placement, so I think I'm properly placed, just wished more corrals were women only! Happy to have a fellow C corral runner here!

1:50 should have put you in A. I've never seen a finish time prediction calculator that included the quarter-marathon distance, but my guess is that your finish time for that must have been faster than your 10K finish time (not just faster pace per mile, but faster overall time) in order to support a 1:50 vs. 1:58. I know that according to McMillan, a 53:xx 10K supports a 1:58:xx half (because those are my PRs, I know it well!). A 1:50 half would be supported by a 49:xx 10K. Add 3 minutes or so for the additional .35 mile, and you'd be at a 52:xx quarter-marathon. If your finish time for the quarter-marathon was any slower than that, the runnersworld calculator may not align with McMillan (and I've heard that McMillan is actually what rD uses). That's all I can guess.

I am in "I" and it is perfect.

We got shirts this week and I love them! We got a blue "Race you to the castle" for Sat and a pink Mickey head with 6.2 on one ear and 13.1 on the other and 19.3 on the head for Sun. We are going to have matching sparkle skirts - if you see us say hi :yay:

We have a 8:20 flight home on Sunday. Has anyone flown home the night of a half? I am dreading it- but have to get back to work!

Thanks, Sarah. Yes, I think runnersworld estimated my finish time too fast. My quarter was 54 minutes. I manually entered 6.55 into the runnersworld calculator - it was the only way I could find a quarter marathon to half marathon translation. My earlier 10K time that McMillan estimated at 1:58 was 53:21! Which means that you'd be a perfect pacer for me! What's your pacing strategy for the half?

I think I need another go-with-the-flow post from PrincessV! We're at the beach in California this week, and I decided to leave my Garmin behind for my run today - it was great!

I was prepared for the last corral because my Wine and Dine Half was 3:40, but I'm actually in G! I could not be more thrilled!

We're also flying home on Sunday...also dreading it but I have to get back for classes on Monday!

do you mean 2:40? my submitted time was 2:43 and i am in I.

No, 3:40 was my Wine and Dine finish time... I was in the hospital 72 hours prior to the race and wasn't at my peak as a result. I ran/walked around 12-14 minute miles, which was off my normal time... But then I also spent 20 minutes at the lights and another 10 waiting for a character, plus two or three bathroom/readjust stops for tape and medication, effectively blowing 45ish minutes I wouldn't have otherwise blown just in stops.

I thought I didn't submit a time and said to go off the Wine and Dine time, but my husband says I submitted a time from a 10k we did at the time I signed up for GSC of 1:12, which was my running peak/average of the time. Regardless, I was expecting the last corral and got G. If I did submit that time, I would have submitted the same 10k for Wine and Dine, but I got placed in I for that one.

So I'm really, really pumped. I kind of feel like my best was robbed from me at Wine and Dine, so I'm so excited to be able to race for redemption and I don't have to overcome the corral placement from blowing my last race.

Also flying home on Sunday! My kids will miss 2 days of school to run the 5K on Friday morning, and we're at the beach now (another 3 days) so we need to get back home. Flight is at 7:30pm, so that leaves some time for lunch at Via Napoli and a stroll around World Showcase! I already have my compression socks ready to go for the flight.

I registered for the 5K this week and I still don't see a waiver up for it, even though official waivers are up. I only see my half one. UGH! Give it a few more days and then contact someone?

ooooooh okay okay. i was like what! but that makes sense if you did submit another 10k and just forgot :)

sorry you had such a crummy w&d! i can't imagine running after being in the hospital. you will definitely get a chance to redeem from that race :)

There's a decent chance that I'll be dropping back to run with a friend - it will be her first half, or at least her first half that she's going into intending to finish. She's very concerned about pace, but I think her corral and training paces are going to give her a good cushion to finish it in plenty of time. As a result, I'm planning on running the 10K as my "fast" race (though even still, probably a few minutes off PR pace), and taking the half at her pace.

Do the corrals start one after another, or is there a schedule for it where they are spaced out a bit more? As far as the the 16 minute pace, that is based on the last person across the start line right? If someone is in the J corral, how far ahead time wise would they probably be? DD has had some problems with running lately and may have to walk much of the course. I'm trying to figure out about how much extra time she really has without getting swept.

Now the dumb question...Not new to running, but new to RunDisney... Is it ok for someone to move back several corrals? DH got B, but DD is in J. It's her first 1/2, so he wants to run with her to support her. I thought I read somewhere that Disney only lets you move back one corral. :confused3 That wouldn't make any sense, so I hope it isn't true.

In my experience running the Half a couple weeks ago, the corrals are spaced roughly 3-5 min apart. I was in G, and crossed the start line approx 6:00. Yes, The 16 minute pace starts After the last corral goes across the start line, so being in J actually gives you a decent cushion of time. From what I understand you can move back in corrals but not forward, I haven't heard of only moving back 1 corral.

edit...Just to give an estimate of corral start timing, I just checked my Garmin for the Disney Half and I crossed the start at 5:54 in corral G and was in the very back of the corral.

No one knows yet what the spacing between the corrals will be. It may be in the final instructions/program when that is released. I've seen multiple guesses that there will be only a minute or two between the first few corrals, then 3-4 minutes between the remaining early corrals until the middle corrals, then closer to five minutes between later corrals. But no one will know for sure until rD tells us. You are allowed to drop back as many corrals as you choose, so your DH can drop back to run with DD:)

ETA: oops typing slow this AM I guess!

Just checked runDisney to make sure instructions weren't posted overnight. Noticed the official waiver links are up for those nervous to use the back door ones.

They never did publish the official corral start times for marathon weekend, so it's very possible they won't for Princess either. But if you look at the Wine and Dine program, even though it's a smaller race and has slightly fewer corrals, you can see the progression: 2 minutes for the first few corrals, then 3 minutes, then 4, 5, and 7 minutes for the last corrals. The same will be the case with Princess - the first couple of corrals only have 500 runners, so assume 2 minutes, 3-4 minutes for the 1000-1500 runner corrals, 5-7 minutes for the 2000-2500 runner corrals.

Checking in! I'm in "i" for I caramba!!!!!!
LOL, I like that! See you in I

Question for those non-first-timers: being in M and having three corrals behind me, how much of an additional buffer does that provide?
Figure around 4-5 mins each for N, O and P to clear the start. They've gone to shorter times between corrals, but those are big corrals, so it'll also take a minute or two for everyone to cross the start.

Do the corrals start one after another, or is there a schedule for it where they are spaced out a bit more?
They've gone to a much shorter span between corrals, and it's staggered - less time between the early corrals, and a little more between later corrals. At the WDW Half, it felt like they were almost one right after another, though my watch said there was around 3-5 mins between. I started in J and our official start was about 6:05am, 35 mins after A, so... an average of 3.5 mins per corral, right?

As far as the the 16 minute pace, that is based on the last person across the start line right?
Exactly. So from J, you've got about 20 mins of cushion.

Now the dumb question...Not new to running, but new to RunDisney... Is it ok for someone to move back several corrals?
Not dumb at all! Yes, you can move back as many as you wish; they wont' allow anyone to move forward, though.

:rotfl: I bet it was a blast! I've found that I really have to have some device for run/walk intervals, or I'll run too much and aggravate healing injuries, otherwise I'd ditch all devices for the 5K and 10K - I may ditch 'em for the 5K anyway and just walk it. And I plan to stop for LOTS of pics. Too. :faint: Who AM I?!?!? :rotfl2:

I saw on the course map that there is a Food Station on the course. Anyone know what they have? Thanks.
