Calling all Princesses! (2014 Princess Half Marathon Weekend)- thread #2

I am in I! Very pleased!

I'm in I also. For the half since DH didn't have a time to submit, he's in L. I'll be running the PHM with him. However, I'm going the 10K alone, so I'm happy that I'll be able to take advantage of that!

I saw on the course map that there is a Food Station on the course. Anyone know what they have? Thanks.

clif shots. they offer a few different flavors. that's it. if you need nutrition other than that then you'll need to bring your own!

11.2 miles today on the still icy and snowy roads in some spots. Lots of stopping and getting off the road when cars went by. Took me almost 3 hours. One more long run next week and then, smooth sailing! As it gets closer, I find myself saying, "I need more time!"

Wow you're a fighter! It's not my style to break a commitment too, but if you look at the big picture, this is only one race (ok two) and if your body is not ready, and you push it and you hurt yourself worse, it is not worth it! So there is no shame in listening to your body and your doctor and scientific reasoning. That being said, what is your bib number? Perhaps your corral placement will give you enough cushion that your 15mm will get you through. Maybe don't do the back to back training right now though and just focus on training with no discomfort. I'm not a coach, but I am a runner who dealt w training and injuries a lot. It's a fine line of balance to find between training enough and overtraining.

Congratulations on your comeback from surgery! Very inspiring!

Thanks! I am corral J so I think that gives me plenty of cushion. Now that I know that, I'm feeling much better about not slowing down towards the end and being swept. Now, my cousin and friend are doing PHM with me. They've both had 75+ weight losses over the past few years. They have been training for this for over a year. I'm the one that encouraged them to do this race. I am so proud of my cousin, I really want to be able to cross the finish line with her. I don't want to hold her back though. Prior to my injury, I would have been faster than her. Now, she's faster than me. I was hoping to get a few corrals jump on her so that we would be able to meet up and cross the finish line together. They ended up in same corral as me. Oh well.

I walked Tink with my parents and with 3 bathroom stops and a very congested course we finished in a 15:30 pace. My tip to you is don't stop for pics with characters! I took a couple pics one of them being in front of the castle the other Small World all lit up. Lots of people got swept because they stopped in really long lines for characters. Also try and wait until you can find a bathroom with a small line. I found one in DL that had no line just around the corner where mass people were waiting for another one. Also, Try and get to the corrals early so you can get to the front. If you can hold a 15min pace now you will be fine! I'm also a blown out ACL gal (both knees) from years ago. Tink was my 16th half! Dig Deep, Michele

Thanks! Great to know. I know I can do it. I am just worried about having to slow down due to discomfort or swelling. Now that I know I'm in corral J I know I have plenty of cushion. :)

I am in corral A for the 10k and corral B for the half. Any guys doing the GSC and have a low bib number. I just got a response that there will be two corral numbers on the bib, 10k and half. I assume only for the men that are affected this will take place.

Hi, I am travelling from the west coast for my first C2C!

About the corral spacing, I just wanted to add that at this year's Tinker Bell race, after Corral A started, there was a delay of several minutes before they released B. I am guessing that since the men were starting in B they wanted to have a woman cross the finish line first. They even said as B approached the start that they would get going in just a few minutes. All of the other corrals were released more quickly (that I observed, I was in D). Of course our corrals were still huge and only A-F.

Actually, unless the 10K has 16 corrals, I assume there will be two corral assignments for everyone in the GSC. Although I haven't seen any 10K corral assignments; I assumed that would only be available at the expo.

For Wine and Dine around mile 9 (I think) they also has chocolate at a station. Not sure if that counted as food.

You will be FINE!! I had done quite a few 5ks locally and last year my family decided to come down and join me to do a HUGE local 10k. I had bronchitis 2 weeks before the race and hadn't trained at all. I was super nervous and almost decided not to go but since it was a sentimental reason we were all doing it together I decided to go for it. We did awesome and it wasn't 'hard' at all ( maybe a little mentally at first,) but you get all that adrenaline going and its so fun! We finished with a good time considering my illness and lack of prep and I was so proud of myself! Good luck to you and have fun!!!

Thank you!! That does make me feel better. I haven't been able to run outside at all in this weather, so my training has been on the treadmill which I've found doesn't accurately reflect my times. It's supposed to warm up on Sunday so I'm hoping to do an outdoor run! But I'm definitely hoping the adrenaline will help :)

So rD called me back to day and I found out why DH and I have such different corrals (I am in E, he is in I). While we both had a run time from 2013DHM of 2:45, I put that I expected to finish in 2:15 (which is what I should have finished in about last time, but got waylaid a couple of times), and is much closer to what I actually run.... but DH put that he expected to finish in 2:45.

I was surprised that rD would use the time I said, as opposed to what I actually finished in... but, oh, well. They won't move him up, so I will move back with him.

On a positive note, it was a balmy 32 degrees here today, so I managed to get outside for a run. 3.7 miles and it felt great and I ran it fast, but I think that was because I was just trying to get warm. :rotfl2:

32 is about 20 degrees warmer that it has been, but it's still really cold!

Now my major problem is chaffing. Trying to come up with a solution. I'm ok on short runs, but my long runs are killing me. Tried body glide today, and wearing boyshorts underwear to add a layer of protection, but they underwear doesn't go far enough down the leg. I ordered a couple of other pairs to try... anyone have any good tricks? I will try just about anything!

Glad you got an answer!

As for chafing, I discovered training for the 2013 Donald that my "trusty" shorts weren't gonna cut it. What works for me, personally, is Body Glide and compression capris.

I had my first ever problem with chaffing a few weeks ago. I always use body glide so don't know what happened, but I've been putting on a thick layer of body glide then a layer of Vaseline. Seems to be working ok.... Good luck!

I also wear capris. No chafing here!

My approach - Glide bikini area and the part on your thighs at the top that only supermodels don't have, then capris or knickers. I like UA Heatgear bc they are super wicking - expensive but worth the extra $$ for comfort, and cute styles.

I am also a former Virginia girl. I went to high school in east of Richmond and lived near Roanoke for many years. Moved to NC near Charlotte hoping for a bit milder weather, but this January has just been very cold. DH grew up in Northern VA.

Small world! I moved to the Hampton Roads area about a year and a half ago after I graduated but I lived in Florida for most of my life. I'm very used to the 80 degree days in January in Florida and I'm not sure I'll ever get used to/actually like the cold and the dry of winter, but I am really enjoying this "snow day" concept right now... :)
