Definitely not a silly question, and I'm not really sure of the answer! I submitted two proofs: a 10K that McMillan said supports a 1:58, followed by a quarter marathon (6.55 mile) that runnersworld said supports a 1:50 (could not find the quarter marathon on McMillan.) I know my POT would not support higher than a B or C placement, so I think I'm properly placed, just wished more corrals were women only! Happy to have a fellow C corral runner here!
1:50 should have put you in A. I've never seen a finish time prediction calculator that included the quarter-marathon distance, but my guess is that your finish time for that must have been faster than your 10K finish time (not just faster pace per mile, but faster overall time) in order to support a 1:50 vs. 1:58. I know that according to McMillan, a 53:xx 10K supports a 1:58:xx half (because those are my PRs, I know it well!). A 1:50 half would be supported by a 49:xx 10K. Add 3 minutes or so for the additional .35 mile, and you'd be at a 52:xx quarter-marathon. If your finish time for the quarter-marathon was any slower than that, the runnersworld calculator may not align with McMillan (and I've heard that McMillan is actually what rD uses). That's all I can guess.
We're also flying home on Sunday...also dreading it but I have to get back for classes on Monday!I am in "I" and it is perfect. We got shirts this week and I love them! We got a blue "Race you to the castle" for Sat and a pink Mickey head with 6.2 on one ear and 13.1 on the other and 19.3 on the head for Sun. We are going to have matching sparkle skirts - if you see us say hiWe have a 8:20 flight home on Sunday. Has anyone flown home the night of a half? I am dreading it- but have to get back to work!
I was prepared for the last coral because my Wine and Dine Half was 3:40, but I'm actually in G! I could not be more thrilled!
do you mean 2:40? my submitted time was 2:43 and i am in I.

No, 3:40 was my Wine and Dine finish time... I was in the hospital 72 hours prior to the race and wasn't at my peak as a result. I ran/walked around 12-14 minute miles, which was off my normal time... But then I also spent 20 minutes at the lights and another 10 waiting for a character, plus two or three bathroom/readjust stops for tape and medication, effectively blowing 45ish minutes I wouldn't have otherwise blown just in stops.
I thought I didn't submit a time and said to go off the Wine and Dine time, but my husband says I submitted a time from a 10k we did at the time I signed up for GSC of 1:12, which was my running peak/average of the time. Regardless, I was expecting the last corral and got G. If I did submit that time, I would have submitted the same 10k for Wine and Dine, but I got placed in I for that one.
So I'm really, really pumped. I kind of feel like my best was robbed from me at Wine and Dine, so I'm so excited to be able to race for redemption and I don't have to overcome the corral placement from blowing my last race.
Thanks, Sarah. Yes, I think runnersworld estimated my finish time too fast. My quarter was 54 minutes. I manually entered 6.55 into the runnersworld calculator - it was the only way I could find a quarter marathon to half marathon translation. My earlier 10K time that McMillan estimated at 1:58 was 53:21! Which means that you'd be a perfect pacer for me! What's your pacing strategy for the half?
In my experience running the Half a couple weeks ago, the corrals are spaced roughly 3-5 min apart. I was in G, and crossed the start line approx 6:00. Yes, The 16 minute pace starts After the last corral goes across the start line, so being in J actually gives you a decent cushion of time. From what I understand you can move back in corrals but not forward, I haven't heard of only moving back 1 corral.Do the corrals start one after another, or is there a schedule for it where they are spaced out a bit more? As far as the the 16 minute pace, that is based on the last person across the start line right? If someone is in the J corral, how far ahead time wise would they probably be? DD has had some problems with running lately and may have to walk much of the course. I'm trying to figure out about how much extra time she really has without getting swept. Now the dumb question...Not new to running, but new to RunDisney... Is it ok for someone to move back several corrals? DH got B, but DD is in J. It's her first 1/2, so he wants to run with her to support her. I thought I read somewhere that Disney only lets you move back one corral. That wouldn't make any sense, so I hope it isn't true.
No one knows yet what the spacing between the corrals will be. It may be in the final instructions/program when that is released. I've seen multiple guesses that there will be only a minute or two between the first few corrals, then 3-4 minutes between the remaining early corrals until the middle corrals, then closer to five minutes between later corrals. But no one will know for sure until rD tells us. You are allowed to drop back as many corrals as you choose, so your DH can drop back to run with DDDo the corrals start one after another, or is there a schedule for it where they are spaced out a bit more? LOL, I like that! See you in IChecking in! I'm in "i" for I caramba!!!!!!
Figure around 4-5 mins each for N, O and P to clear the start. They've gone to shorter times between corrals, but those are big corrals, so it'll also take a minute or two for everyone to cross the start.Question for those non-first-timers: being in M and having three corrals behind me, how much of an additional buffer does that provide?
They've gone to a much shorter span between corrals, and it's staggered - less time between the early corrals, and a little more between later corrals. At the WDW Half, it felt like they were almost one right after another, though my watch said there was around 3-5 mins between. I started in J and our official start was about 6:05am, 35 mins after A, so... an average of 3.5 mins per corral, right?Do the corrals start one after another, or is there a schedule for it where they are spaced out a bit more?
Exactly. So from J, you've got about 20 mins of cushion. As far as the the 16 minute pace, that is based on the last person across the start line right?
Not dumb at all! Yes, you can move back as many as you wish; they wont' allow anyone to move forward, though. Now the dumb question...Not new to running, but new to RunDisney... Is it ok for someone to move back several corrals?
I think I need another go-with-the-flow post from PrincessV! We're at the beach in California this week, and I decided to leave my Garmin behind for my run today - it was great!
