Well gang, I fired my first employee yesterday (as a business owner - I've fired others in the past when I managed someone else's store). As much I hated to do this, it was necessary. So now I have to work a little more, which in one hand stinks, but in the other hand is okay, because I will get some more stuff done.

Tonight my friend Jennifer and I are taking our girls to see The Jonas Brothers in 3-D. These tickets were my girls Valentines Day present - so they are very excited about going (especially Katie - she just  the Jonas Brothers). This movie must not be as popular as the Miley Cyrus movie, because I just looked on Fandango, and it's not sold out. The Miley Cyrus movie around here sold out super quick. We were going to go super early to make sure we got a seat together, but maybe we can get there 45 minutes early, instead of an hour early.

So, I"m just loving Facebook - so fun!!!!
I"m going to make a Facebook page for my store - it might be good advertising.
I figured The DIS has one, a local bowling shop has one, why can't I have one?!
So, I'll see how that goes :thumbsup2

djy -Congratulations to your DH:cheer2: That is such great news!!!!! Also, congrats on booking your WDW trip - that's awesome too :cool1: We aren't going this year, so I'm going to live through all of you :teeth:
**It was good to see you - please come by more often and visit :)

Karen - Good luck to Emily this weekend, and good luck to you with the continued weight loss:wizard: Your mom is so nice!! You are very blessed to have her!!!!:goodvibes I've never been to NY, so I look forward to your trip so I can hear all about it. This is one of the places I want to go before I die (doesn't that sound morbid?!). I would love to see Time Square, and see a show on Broadway:)

Well, it's time for me to go eat my daily grapefruit and get ready for my day. Stephanie has a hearing test at 11am, and then we have many errands to run.

Have a good day today!!!

Happy Saturday! I am up doing laundry and baking cookies until it is time to leave for competition.

sandy - was the girl you fired the one who's mom tried to call in for her? I hope ya'll have a great time at the Jonas Bros. movie!

blueeyes - Hi! :goodvibes

sam - how are you?

I am pretty excited about the trip. We will be going to West Side Story on Broadway. we go to a yankees game and tour all the big name stuff. We also go to DC and tour there. The time in New jersey is at Six Flags and i think mostly a play day for the kids.

Have a great day everyone!

Hello!
Emily's team is in first palce after yesterday and the performance today counts as 2/3 of the total. Hopefully we will have a good performance!! I'll check in after the awards!

Our whole gym had a good day! We took 8 squads and had 5 first places, one spirit award, one most entertaining award and I think 2 Grand Champions.
Emily's aquad took first in division and won the most entertaining award!!!:woohoo: :cheer2: It was a good day. We went out for seafood with a bunch of the team. Of course, Emily ordered a cheeseburger!:confused3 I had the crabcake. it was served on top of fried green tomatoes with a really good sauce. All in all a very good day!

How was everyone else's weekend?

:surfweb:

Sorry I didn't check in yesterday - I didn't have a chance.

My review of the Jo Bros movie is thumbs down. Granted, I'm not a huge fan of theirs, but the movie was kinda slow - Katie and her friend were bored at times. Stephanie said she was never bored, but the movie did move slowly. The theater was only 1/2 packed, if that, and there were no screaming girls - completely different than the Miley Cyrus movie last year.

After the movie we got some pizzas, came to my house, and played Monopoly, with Kevin, until 12:30am :faint: By the time Jen left it was almost 1am - I never stay up that late :faint: The girls were exhausted, but they had so much fun!!!!

Then Sunday morning we slept in, and then my other friend came over for awhile to visit with her kids - it was nice to see her!!!! Then during the afternoon Stephanie and I cuddled in a chair watching tv and then we went to church for 6pm Mass

We had a good weekend!!!!! :goodvibes

Blueeyes - Thanks, they did have a good time!!! :goodvibes

Karen - Congrats to Emily and the rest of her squad!!!:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:
*Yes, that was the employee!!! ::yes::

Well, I gotta run and get Ms. Stephanie up for school.
Have a great day today everyone!!!

Good evening! I am home from work, but will be taking emi to the gym in a bit. She has a 2 hour practice and i will stay at the gym - I enjoy watching them and I enjoy chatting with some of the moms.

sandy - I hate that you will have to work more with the firing! I wouldn't want to be in management for many reasons, but that is one of them!!! I am glad ya'll had a good weekend. My kids don't have any interest in the Jonas Bros. movie so i won't be going to see that one!

I hope everyone had a great day!

:surfweb:

Karen - Thanks for thinking of me:goodvibes I hate the fact I need to work more too ::yes:: Luckily, if I have nothing to do, I can watch a movie or play on the computer, so it's not all bad. I just hope this economy gets better so I can get more business and hire more people. It really bums me out that the last 2 years of Stephanie being in elementary school, I couldn't help with anything - I don't want that to happen with Katie:sad2: The girls have sacrificed so much with me being at work all the time, and I'm starting to have guilt. I've explained to Stephanie a million times that the economy prevents me to hire more people, so I need to work all the time. She says she understands, and I hope she does. I don't want her having terrible memories of her childhood:guilty:

Speaking of Stephanie, I need to get her moving.
Have a good day!!!

sandy - Try not to feel guilty! My kids are into every activity and sometimes it overstresses the whole family! When i feel guilty about not doing something my mom always reminds me of an article she read once. it said that kids don't remember all the things we do (activities, school parties, etc...) they remember the times around the dinner table, watching movies on the couch, etc.. i know you do lots of special daily stuff with both of your girls! they will have so many happy memories of the time you spent with them at home. They will not remember that you couldn't be at every class party or field trip! You are a GREAT mom and your girls know it!!!!! They will also remember how hard you worked at your store while being such a fantastic mother!

Well gang........I'm signing my baby up for kindergarten this morning:sad1:
If I"m not happy about signing her up, what am I going to be like in August when she has to go:sad1: The thought of sending her out the door by 7:30am makes me sad - her and I have our morning routine together. I better stop talking about it before it makes me sadder:sad1:

Karen - Thanks, I needed that!!!!  I'm so glad we are friends!!!:goodvibes

Well, I gotta run and get ready for work - we need to be at the sign-ups by
8:30am. I"m hoping to get all-day kindergarten, but that goes in a lottery, so there's not guarantee that I will get it. If I can't get that, than I'm praying for morning kindergarten, because I have no idea how I could get Katie to afternoon kindergarten.

Have a good day!!!

Im a kindergarten teacher--a couple of weeks ago we had kindergarten registration--some of the parents were in tears, which almost had me in tears!!
Good luck with the lottery

Good morning! I am trying to get back to my regular routine! I hate morning! I also hate the thought of "springing forward" this weekend!

sandy - Are you signing her up at a public school? All of our schools have all day kindergarten. It is kind of a sad time when you have to send that last little one off! It's a very big deal! :grouphug: Will she be at the same school as Stephanie? When will you know the results of the lottery?

blueeyes - My oldest DD is an elementary education major. She student taught kindergarten last semester. This semester she has 3rd grade. She loved the little ones, but she is really enjoying the independence of the older kids. She will be a senior next year, so she still has a pretty good bit of classroom experience to go before she decides what she likes most. Of course, I guess sometimes you just have to go where the job is available, no matter what the grade level! Is kindergarten your favorite?:teacher:

Registration went well yesterday.
I warned Katie that someone will be taking her and asking her questions, of which she wasn't happy about:sad2: . When it was time for her to go, she went with no problem, which I was releaved about (she is a REAL mama's girl. On X-Mas Eve she was chosen to put baby Jesus in the manager, and she started crying, because I was lectoring and couldn't go with her (Stephanie offered to go, but that wasn't good enough), so I was thrilled she went w/o tears yesterday). While Katie was with the teacher, I had tons of paperwork to fill out. While I was filling out the paperwork, I could hear Katie answering her questions confidentally, and without nervousness, which I was releaved about:) . When we were ton, the whole thing took about 40min, so not to bad. Katie now says she is looking forward to school, but we'll see what happens in August - I think it will be a different story then:rolleyes:

BlueEyes - Thanks for the good luck :) I'm really praying for that all day kindergarten!!!

Karen - Yes, Katie is going to public school ::yes:: Stephanie went to Catholic school for kindergarten, but it's so much more expensive. All day in public school is $1400 and at Catholic school it's about $4000  (which is more than when Stephanie went). Stephanie will be in 5th grade next year, and 5th grade here goes to the middle school, so the girls won't be sharing a school :sad2: In fact, they never will share a school together:guilty: It's to bad, because Katie would have an easier time if Stephanie could go on the bus with her. Oh well, in the end, Katie will do find, she'll just need some time to build up her confidence :)
*I won't know the results of the lottery until the end of April. So my fingers will be really crossed until then:upsidedow

Well, I"m off and running!
Have a good day today everyone!!!

Teaching jobs around here are hard to get. I have been out of school for 2 years and this was the first year I got a full time job.
Its crazy, but i love it!!

Sandy - I am confused! $1400 for public school? Is this regular 5 year old kindergarten? Wow! I get upset when I have to pay about $50 - $80 per kid in fees/workbooks! It's amazing that states can be so different. Kindergarten here is all day for everyone. no lottery, just sign up at your district school. You can apply for a transfer (which i did) and was lucky to get james & Emily into the best public elem. school in town. We even have public 4K (all day) for kids who are identified at risk. I will keep my fingers crossed for you that she doesn't get the afternoon shift! I wouldn't have been able to get my kids there either. Do ya'll have Magnet schools there?:teacher:

blueeyes - Teachers pay in Alabama stinks. I don't know if she will come back home after college. She may look into Georgia or another state that pays better. i just hope it is close to here! I have gotten used to her being 3 hours away, I don't know how I would adjust to much more!:scared:

sam - How are you? i hope you check in soon!

I look forward to Friday's during Lent, because it gives me a reason to make fish more often. We are having beer battered fish, popcorn shrimp, clam strips, and cheesy mashed potatoes tonight - yummy!!!:goodvibes The girls LOVE it when I make this meal - so they are excited!!!

Tonight, Stephanie is going to serve her first Stations of the Cross. She keeps asking me what she'll be doing, and I keep telling her "I don't know!!" I haven't been to this since before Kevin and I were married, so along time ago! Plus, I wasn't raised Catholic, so I have no past memories of this. I'm looking forward to going tonight, and I hope Stephanie enjoys doing this.

Blueeyes - I'm glad you are enjoying your teaching job:) Your students can sense that, and that makes them enjoying coming to school :goodvibes

Karen - That price is only for the all day kindergarten. If I wanted to do 1/2 day, then it would be under $100. I guess they feel, if you want it bad enough, you'll pay for it:rolleyes: We do have Magnet schools, but no where by me, they are more in Chicago. I couldn't do any transfers either, because my town, and the 2 surrounding towns, are all part of the same school system, so any transfer would be the same school, just a different building - if that makes any sense.

Well, I gotta run and get Steph some breakfast
Have a good day!!!

We are going to have tons and tons of rain this weekend :umbrella:
So I am going to get all my errands done today, so I can sit at home as much as possible tomorrow:thumbsup2

Have a good day!!

Hello all! I habe had a busy day. I worled out this morning. Then Emiily and I did some errands and a little shopping then I came home and cleaned and did laundry. :laundy: I feel like I am always doing laundry!!

sandy - did you get done before the rain? I am used to the way kindergarten is here. I guess though that $1400 for the year in all day kindergarten would be less $$ than a year in all day daycare? A lot of the towns I see patients in are like ya'll. They have several towns sharing a school. Mobile has quite a few schools/districts. Transfers can be hard to come by though. Luckily my mom works in the zone for the elem. school we wanted and she is my back up child care so that is how we got that transfer. The middle school that the kids are in now is a Magnet school and that is based on a lottery. James went in without the lottery because Emi was already there which was great! We are waiting to see if Emi gets accepted in the CIS program at the high school we want. It's the same school Sarah went to.
It's a shame the girls won't ever be at the same school. It makes transportation tricky!

See ya'll tomorrow!

I have not read all the replies, but I wonder why it says "wifes" of firefighters. It should read partners or spouses of firefighters.

I'm a paid as well as vounenteer. At work we have lots of women, at the vol. station not so much. women can vounteer though.
