Well, I'm off to eat my grapefruit.
I bought 8 grapefruit on Monday, and the last week I bought 7 because the prices have been awesome. Last week they were 39 cents each, and now they are 25 cents each. I love grapefruit, so I'm very excited to have one every morning.

hi everyone!

Im so excited to hear from everyones perspectives and get to know you guys!

I cant remember when I posted last. Ive been staying at my grandmas house helping her and havent had any internet. On Valentines day my sister got married. It was small, but cute. Our family friend performed the marriage. I made my sister several roses and flowers out of duct tape and put them into a bouquet together. She didnt use them for the wedding for fear of offending her husbands amish family, but she wrapped them up in a box and gave them to me that evening. she said that way she didnt have to throw them and have a chance of someone else catching them.

So for the last few days my grandma, mom, sister and I have been hanging out in a very uneventful way.

sam - i am so sorry about your grandpa, but am glad you got home in time! I am glad to hear the wedding went well. It's good that you are spending time with family. I like the flowers!! Very cute idea! How did things work out with the school fees?

To our newcomers - My name is Karen and I am usually here every day, but have had some technical problems! My DH is a career FF for 18 years. He is a driver and now also the boat pilot. I am an Rn and I do pediatric home health. We have 3 great kids. (I feel like I am introducing myself on Wheel of Fortune)

Ok, so since my last visit...

Sarah - getting great reviews from the teacher she is student teaching with. She has 3rd grade this semester.

Emily - we went to atlanta for a HUGE cheer competition. We would have loked to have done better, but we had a great time. We travelled and roomed with another mother/daughter and really enjoyed them! She will try out for high school cheerleading in March.

James - still sweet and wonderful! Had baseball tryouts, but we haven't heard from the coach yet. He is really enjoying this time period of no practice (football or baseball). He just gets to run and play.

Jim - has started to work on his weight. i am excited for him! I hope he has some fast progress so he stays motivated. His back has been a little tender lately, so we are keeping our fingers crossed.

Me - plateau with the diet, still not going to the gym! Maybe there is a connection?
Mardi Gras is in full swing. Emi and I went shopping tomite. i am going to a ball Saturday night and had to have a dress. The shopping was enjoyable because of the weight I've lost, so maybe that will be my motivation to keep going. Sarah will be coming home this weekend. She and Bill (BF) are going to the same ball. I think we will have a good time. I haven't been to a Mardi Gras ball in years.
Well, I will stop tyiping for now! See ya'll in the morning! I am sooooo happy to be back!

My neck still hurts, so I haven't worked out since last Wednesday. I haven't been to the Chiropracter since before Christmas, and I really need an adjustment, but with many expenses ahead of us (Stephanie's 3rd surgery and her braces + Katie starting all day kindergarten which is over a $1000), I don't want to start with that again (with a new year, it will cost me $500 to meet the deductible). I miss me working out, but I don't miss the headaches - I just can't describe how bad these headaches are - they are debilitating I'm hoping that my walking won't be a migraine trigger this year, or I'll be really sad I may not be able to speed walk (to much pounding on the neck) but we'll see - I"ll take each day as it comes.

Is she allowed to work while student teaching? Student teachers here aren't allowed to have a job, which stinks since this is a commuter college. Stephanie's summer daycare teacher isn't there anymore because of this.

hi all!

I went in early today (6:45) so I got off early. Woo hoo! This worked out well because Sister Zoe (one of my mom's friends) agreed to hem the formal I bought last night for the ball. Not only did she hem it, but I have it back already!! How awesome!

sandy - I understand about the deductible & the chiropractor! So what did your orthodontist say about the cost of braces?

I am still doing WW. I don't count points like I should, but I do my weekly weighins. I need to exercise and burn some calories! I have been really bad the last 5 or 6 days. Pretty much eating everything! I need to get it back under control!

Morning all! Sleeping in is the order of the morning at my house. Jim is at the station. The kids have 5 days out of school. They get Mon - Wed for Mardi Gras. Sarah doesn't. U of A doesn't have M.G. holiday. She will go back Sunday. I am about to go get my hair trimmed for tonight. I am not going to get a fancy updo - just wearing it down will be a big change from the usual ponytail.

What is everybody else doing this weekend?

I haven't had a lot of DIS time lately.

Nothing to new going on.
Friday, Kevin and I went out to dinner alone, which doesn't happen very often - it was nice!!! A new restaurant in town invited all the town employees and town business owners to a free meal at their place, and it was yummy!!!! Plus, we saw many many people we know, and that was nice too!!! It was a good night!!!

Yesterday, we ran tons of errands, and we got alot done. Then we came home, ate lunch, went to church, and then went out to dinner with my my in-laws and then went to their house for desert. It was a busy day, but not a stressful busy day. I"m glad we got all our errands done yesterday, so today we can stay home

My newest thing is trying to be a good shopper with coupons. I've found many different websites with coupons, and then I go through the sale papers to see where I can find the best deals. I takes a lot of time, but I can find some good bargains. I had some successful finds last week, and I"m hoping I can find some this week. I get so excited when I can buy 2 big bags of Baked Lays for $2 and 4 boxes of Frosted Flakes for $8

Karen - How was the ball last night? I can hardly wait to hear all about it!!!
**I haven't taken Steph to the Orthodontist yet - probably not till summer. I am taking her the the ENT tomorrow though, so we can see about when her 3rd surgery is going to be - I want to get that over with!!!!

Hello all!

sandy - sounds like you got alot done yesterday. It was nice that you and Kevin got to to go out!


Tha ball was great!! We went to the parade first and then to the ball. Tha parades have lots of floats and the people who ride on the floats each have a room at the auditorium. Each room has food and a bar. we went in first for call outs - they present everyone who is a member and the queen. Her dress was beautiful! Very sparkly. After that everyone goes down stairs and you go from room to room eating and drinking and talking. They had four bands in four different areas so you get to listen to music & dance. It was really fun. My dress ended up being very comfortable and I found out it's machine washable! We will have to take Sarah's to the dry cleaner, though. She really enjoyed herself, too. All in all a very good night!

Hi everyone-I posted on here awhile ago and for some reason, never got back and posted again! I do not have a husband, but both my brother and my father are paid firefighters, in different companies. Im jen, by the way, from NJ

The last couple weeks, alot of people have been asking me about firemen families and they are realizing how close knit we all really are. We have a firemen in ICU after a rescue 2 weeks ago and people now are realizing that the department is like a family.

I stayed up to watch The Oscars, and then some of the programming after it was over. Then Stephanie woke me up at 1:30am, and then Katie woke me up at 3am so I"m tired!!!!


Karen - I"m am so glad you had a good time at the ball!!!! How fun!!!!

Jen - Welcome back!!!!! Please come by more often - we would love to see you!!! You are right about FD families - they are a close knit group!!!! Luckily, we've never had anything bad happen to anyone on our FD, or their family members, but I know if something bad did happen, we would all pull together

For those of you going to IHOP for free pancakes - enjoy!!!! The IHOP by me is sorta far away, so I won't be going since I have to be at work by 10am.

For those of you that are Catholic, what are you giving up for Lent? This will be the 3rd year that Stephanie, Katie, and I give up listening to anything in the car - so we have silence. I like doing this, because it's something the girls can sacrifice and not cheat on, because I won't cheat on it. So that starts when we leave church tomorrow night.

I am coming to you today to ask for your prayers.
I have commented in the past about my dad's memory and mental problems, and my mom got the final dianosis yesterday that he has advanced stages of Alzheimers Please keep my dad in your prayers, but please please please especially keep my mom in your prayers - she has such a long dark road ahead of her. My dad still feels there's nothing wrong with him, so he's not suffering, but my mom sure is - he is not easy to live with at all. There are so many things that she loves, that she isn't and won't be able to do I feel so sad for her. I had to explain to Stephanie yesterday about this, and explain to her that someday he won't remember her, and explain to her that it doesn't mean he doesn't love her, but it's the disease - she was sad Alzheimers is so ugly - you die with no dignity So sad!!!!


Grannywishes - I gave my mom your email, but I know she would feel weird emailing someone she doesn't know. So, I may be asking you things for her benefit.



On a happier note - I've been having alot of fun on Facebook. Not only can I keep in touch with those on The DIS, but I am hoping to catch up with many people that I haven't seen or talked to in years.

hi all! My daily routine got turned around when I didn't have a healthy computer and I quit getting up early to use the computer! So now I am checking in after work. it feels weird! I may eventually drag my hiney out of bed to be back on in the am.

sandy - Sarah would probably freak out if I showed up on Facebook! She gets annoyed when Emi's friends friend request her!! This is why Emi is on MySpace - fewer arguments! My nephew did send me a link to a video he made that can only be viewed on facebook, so that may be my "in"! I'll let you know!
I have always loved Mardi Gras. I feel like Mobile is more family oriented than New Orleans, but we have our crazies too! We just avoid certain areas! It's the same way in NO. You just avoid the crazy stuff and you can have fun with the family!

Good Morning Everyone...Sorry I havent posted since 1st post but I was having a bad bout with my Diverticulitis....but I just had come and share some good news....My husband got his promotion to Assistant Chief of the career firfighters......he is on cloud 9 and I am so proud of him....now the real exciting news...I just book out trip to Disney...its not until June 21st....I have never been there in June...I know it will be HOT but seeing we go so often we will be water parking it or pooling during the day and evenings at the parks....I cannot wait...just had to share my exciting news....Hope eevryone is well and Have a Great Weekend Everyone.

djy - Congratulations to your DH!!! That is fantastic! Of course I think the trip is pretty exciting too!

I went to WW today - i haven't weighed in for a couple of weeks. i was really worried! I am very excite to say I have maintained. This is saying alot because I can tell you that Moon Pies are not good for you! Even if they are thrown from a float and are filled with fat free marshmallow! I have been very lax for a couple of weeks now. I need to get motivated again. The New York trip is just the thing! One of Emi's Christmas gifts was her trip to New York/DC/New Jersey this summer. The teacher told the group they needed to fill more seats. Well lo and behold my teenage daughter invited me & my mom. So my mom being the super mom that she is is making that happen! I told ya'll I have the best mom! We are making it part of our weight goal process. I have to be in the 140's to go! So I need to get my hiney to the gym!
Emi has a two day competition this weekend, but it is in town so we don't have to travel. I hope we do well!
