The girls have 8am dentist appointments this morning - so no working out today. This is Katie's first time at the dentist, and I'm a little nervous. She has shown alot of fear about going to the dentist, and this is why I've waited so long to take her. I wanted her to be old enough to reason with, in case she gets to nervous while she is in the dentist chair. I'll have to let you all know how she did later.


Well, I best get ready so I can get Katie up and ready - she won't be in a good mood this morning at all. Not only am I waking her up early, but it's because of going to the dentist - yep, she won't be happy

Katie did fabulous at the dentist - I was proud of her!!!!
Stephanie didn't get great news though - the dentist said that I can take her for a consultation for braces. We knew these were in her future, but I was suprised with so soon. The dentist said that it all depends on when her baby teeth are gone, and she has only 2 left to loose, and they'll be out in the next 6 months. So, after her ear surgery, which isn't scheduled yet, we'll have to have her fitted for braces - she won't be happy!!!


Well, I must go back to work (it's so cold in this store, and it's hard to work when you are freezing ).

Hi all! My computer is virus ridden and my sister has been trying to help, but so far no luck! i may end up just getting a new one!Ughhhh! I am at her house now borrowing her internet!

sand - how are things with your employee? That has got to be stressful! We knew early that our kids would need braces, the orthodontist waited on the girls. Emi got hers this summer. James will probably start this summer. It's soooooo expensive!!!! Sarah & Emi both had spacers for awhile. Sarah has great teeth though! Everytime she smiles, I know it was money well spent!


sam - how is the apartment hunting going? How does Marc like the new job? How is your grandpa? I hope you did well on yout midterms!

This week marc is staying in visalia, so weve been apartment hunting together online. This weekend well go check out a few places. and then once we find someplace we just have to find someone to take our spot in this house. yuk! so much mess.

I find out how I did on my midterm tonight, and then of course next week I have another midterm. But then its valentines day. Yay!

So my sister lives in hawaii with her fiance. They are both minimalists and live in a house thats pretty much par with camping. They decided last summer to come to california and get married. Just a small barbeque type thing at my grandmas house. But when my mom and grandma tried to plan things to make it seem a little more festive my sister got very overwhelmed and cancelled it. It was a very stressful time also. I was getting ready for FL and plane fare for her was very expensive. So my grandpa has been sick and she wanted to come to CA to see him. Since shell be here she decided to go ahead and get married on valentines day. Just in the court house and then a family barbeque. I think my mom has given up and resigned the idea of jenny having a white wedding. I told her it's OK. She make it up with me haha.

My papa just had his biopsy on friday and they gave them some initial info although the results come out today. They said the cancer came from his lungs or colon. His liver is so badly deteriorated they said it looks like swiss cheese. Its supposedly progressing really rapidly. They wouldnt give a time frame, but they told my family to get all of his affairs in order. They now have a nurse coming to the house to change bandages on his legs for the swelling. Hopefully Ill find out more soon. I'm trying not to think much about it. Whatever happens happens, and we need to deal with the issues as they arise instead of worrying ourselves to death.

Karen - Okay, break it to my gently - how much money am I looking at for braces??? I want to prepare myself for when I go for my consultation, so I don't do this , and then this and then this in the office Obviously, Stephanie's won't be the same as your kids, but I just want a general idea of what I'll be looking at.

CB - I'm sorry to hear about the prognosis of your grandpa I will pray for him to have peace during this time, and I will also keep you in my thoughts and prayers too We are here for you when you need us - we care about you, so please keep us posted on what happens

today i withdrew from my classes for the quarter. Ill start again the next quarter. My grandma is upset that i did this, but i dont care because next quarter I will have a fresh start and actually be able to concentrate on my work.

My sister has very little money, but that doesnt have anything to do with the minimalist factor. Shes a common poor 23 year old. She doesnt go to school and works in random jobs to pay the bills. Shes minimalist because she doesnt see the use in "stupid useless things" Cute gifts and trinkets make her cringe. Shes a necessity or die type of person. It probably comes from the backpacker part of her. She hiked the pacific crest trail for 3 months and that is where she met her fiance Dan who is a big backpacker as well. They plan on doing the trip again for their honeymoon.

Im picking my sister up from teh airport tonight and well be finding our way down to visalia tomorrow. Now im trying to decide...train or rental car? train is cheaper, but rental car I can take my cats with me instead of leaving them with the roommates.

It's still freezing cold here - a whole 0 degrees!!
We are getting some warmer temps this weekend though, and we are very excited about that actually it'll be more like this and this


CB - Your sister sounds like and interesting person. I hope you have a nice time with her in town. Are you two close? I always wished I had a sister, and when I was pregnant with Katie, and found out she was a girl, I was SO happy for Stephanie. Stephanie was very happy when she found out Katie was a girl, and they are very very close !! They do have their moments of arguing and disagreeing, but they never stay mad at each other for very long. 10 min. after they argue, they are asking me if they can share a room

I'm feeling so guilty lately, because I have had no desire to get up and workout. I'm so bored with my workout videos, and I because of this, I have no excitement to get up. I look forward to when I can go out and walk again - I always loved this!!!!


Karen - How's your workout regimen going? Have you lost more weight? I haven't lost more weight, but I haven't weighed myself either. I need to get on the the Wii Fit this weekend.

It's the start of another week.

I was a real slacker last week and didn't workout once, cheated on my food, didn't fold my laundry - I'm pretty ashamed of myself!!!! So, I dragged my butt out of bed this morning to workout, and I told myself no more cheating on food (it's so hard in the winter)!!!!!


Well, I'm off to go workout, fold some laundry, do a load of laundry, and get ready for work - have a good day everyone!!

Ok so not having a computer stinks! I just ordered a brand new one!!!! All should be back to normal soon!

sandy _ I am currently on a plateau with my weight. If I would go to the gym it would help! I am just not the morning exercise gal and when I get home I just want to veg. I am still doind well with the food and portion control.
Braces are probably around $5000. That included all the pre braces molds, etc... Maybe hers will be less.

sam - I hope you enjoy your sister's visit. I am lucky that my sister I am close to (the computer guru) lives next door. School will be there next semester! Hang in there!

to make a long week very short...

wednesday my sister and i took amtrak home. My grandpa died just hours after we got there. Weve spent the past week preparing for the funeral. The house was stuffed with family. The ag show was going on so there were no hotel rooms available and we had 19 people sleeping in the house together! Good thing its a big house. The funeral was tuesday. My sister, her fiance, marc, my cousin, and my other cousins husband were all paul bearers. My papa was buried with his bull rope, spurs and bottle of jim beam. I made a slide show of 100+ pictures and had to burn 25 copies of it.

Now were preparing for my sisters wedding. Its going to be small, potluck at the house. I got a letter today at my moms house with info about what i owed the state after my withdrawl. I was told it would be less than what they had refunded me earlier ($900) but today i saw it was $1700! I freaked out and came back up to davis with my cousins today. (they live in Sacramento about 20 minutes away) Tomorrow I will go to the school and try to get things figured out. BUt while im back at home I did my taxes. ( i actually get the rebate from last year now) So ill be getting about $575 which will probably go towards that monster $1700! After talking to the school and filling out my timesheet from work last week (late now ) Ill pack up my cats and drive my bug down home again! I know its a hassle but i dont want to wait for my cousins to go back friday. I want to go back tomorrow and spend as much time with my sister and family as I can.

My neck issues are back with a vengence
After I worked out Monday, my neck was really bothering me. It contined to be bad Tues, and also Wed morning when I woke up. I worked out anyway (I considered not to, but then I told myself that I've been making to many excuses lately), and my neck went from bad to excrusiating (sp?) which resulted in a terrible migraine I laid down at work for an hour (thank goodness I work for myself), and then all day I did almost nothing, because I just couldn't think straight. Needless to say, I was in bed by 8pm last night, and if I didn't have little children and a puppy, it would have been earlier than that. This morning my neck is still excrusiating, and my headache is still there (there's nothing worse than working up with the same headache you went to bed with), and I'm praying it doesn't go from a headache to another migraine. I have a lot to do at work, and I don't like using my saw when I feel bad (I don't want to lose a finger ). So, I guess I won't be working out for awhile, so I can allow my neck to rest - so annoying!!!


Tonight Kevin, his dad, and his friend are going to the Auto Show. They always enjoy getting all dressed up in their tuxs, and attending this event They all look so handsome!!!!



Well, I better go get Stephanie out of bed, and get her some breakfast.

Stephanie doesn't have school today - I love that!!!!!
I let the girls stay up till 10pm, and we watched Ace of Cakes together. Sitting with my girls on the couch, all cuddled up together under blankets, is like heaven on earth to me. Whenever I get the chance to do this, I take advantage of it, because I know in a blink of an eye, they'll be older, and not want to do that anymore I just love my girls!!!!!

Hello, I am a wife of a paid firefighter...he has been in the fire department in some way or another for the past 30+ years...he started as a volunteer at 18 and was appointed to the career depaartment...he has been a Captian for the past 9 years...he is up for a promotion to Assistant Chief... we had to cancel our DISNEY trip for now until the promotion is made...it should of been announced 2 weeks ago but the chief keeps putting it off...I am getting verey very impatient to start planning another trip...so please everyone keep their fingers crossed that it is announced soon....on a very sad note here...we live Tonawanda NY...just outside Buffalo NY...there was a tragic plane crash here last nite....many lost their lives...my heart a prayers go out to all involved...family and friends and all who responded.... as we all know our firemen dont just go home and leave behind what the experienced...they have to carry around with them what they saw, heard, smelled...I know my husband has had many sleepless nights over some of the stuff he experienced...I am just dreading for the passenger list to come out because I am sure their was someone somehow connected to alot of us here....

I didn't know there was a firemen wives thread!

I just popped in to see what this thread is about and read djy's post. How true is that. Did your husband have to respond to that call? My husband has been deeply affected by a lot of things he has seen. His worst call to date was a 3yr old girl who was strangled by her hood strings on a slide. There was also the Sheraton shooting. He was one of the first paramedics in after they cleared the scene. That one still affects him and it's been almost 4 yrs.

My husband is a paid firefighter/paramedic for a suburb outside of Milwaukee here in Wisconsin. He has worked there for almost 12 yrs now. As a kid he was in the fire explorer program in the city he grew up in. He went on to volunteer for 11 yrs making his way from firefighter to captain to training chief. He had to leave when the department was taken over by a not-so-nice new chief. He also teaches EMT for a technical school and works part time as a nurse in a Milwaukee ER. He stays busy so I can be home as much as possible with our three kiddos. We have been married 8 1/2 yrs now.

Hope you guys don't mind me poking in here. I don't get on the community board much in the mornings -- and actually not much at all since things have changed around here. It would be nice to have people who know what it is like to chat with.

Sorry I haven't checked in since Friday

Happy belated Valentines Day everyone!!!!!
I hope you all had a good Valentines Day.
What did you do?
We didn't do anything, but that's how I like it.
I worked that day, then we went to church, and had dinner, that Kevin made. We did exchange cards, and we gave the girls tickets to see The Jonas Brothers in 3D - they were very excited!!!!

Yesterday was a very low key day - which I love!!! I was finally able to take Sophie for a walk, which we both loved. I miss the fresh air, and I miss getting out and walking - I just love it!!!! I can hardly wait for the time change, and for the weather to start getting warmer so I can walk more.

Today, Stephanie doesn't have school, so it's nice to not have to rush this morning. Pretty soon though, the girls do have to get up to go to Grandma's house, so I can go to work. I wish I had more employees that could work during the day so I could be home with them, but maybe someday
