Calling all Chicago DISers #3

After getting settled in, our group of three headed over to the John Hancock Center to have dinner at the Signature Room at the 95th floor. This was a picture perfect day to get a view of the city from above. Here's a few shots from there... as well as a group photo:

Hi Emma's Dad! Nice to 'see' you! Stunning pics from the restaurant!! Thanks for sharing with us! :thumbsup2 Come back again, soon! :goodvibes

Katie's graduation last night was really nice, and she was beaming with pride:goodvibes She was also so glad to see her friends, because she hasn't been to the daycare in over a month. I sure hope some of these kids go to her elementary school, because they are a great group of kids!!! Then when we came home we made a fire and ate smores - the kids really wanted to do this!! It was a relaxing end to the day, which is something I needed!!!

Bunchkin - See ya later my friend!!!! (I hate to say goodbye) Travel safely, and I hope the move goes smoothly. We look forward to your post to fill us in how everything is with you and your family. Many hugs to all of you!!

Becky - I hope you enjoyed your relaxing day yesterday. Did you do anything special?

Emmas Dad - Thank you so much that trip report:)Your pictures are great and I'm so glad you had nice weather and great time!!! Please come back to our thread and visit anytime - we would love to see you!!!!:goodvibes

Travel well, Nicole. Best to you, Tony, Lauren and Hunter. :wave2:  Hoping to see you guys again in the future.

And a shout out to all the Chicagoans, and visitors too. Nice pictures, E Dad, looks like you guys had a nice visit. :thumbsup2

Enjoy the weekend, everyone. :sunny:

Nicole Not going to say goodbye just see you around. Alex and I will see and talk you all. I wish you a safe and uneventful move.

Slo WOW Katie is a kindergarten graduate? Where did the time go?

Alex had his 8th grade recognition night on wednesday but next wednesday is his last day. His class is huge just under 600 kids

E Dad Glad you had a great time. Chicago and the surrounding area is great for family travels.

Becky - I hope you enjoyed your relaxing day yesterday. Did you do anything special?

No. We usually go to Dairy Queen but we haven't gotten there yet. We somehow didn't make it last year either. :lmao: In the evening I took 3 of the kid's shoe shopping. Nothing too exciting there.

DD has a graduation party to go to today.

HI..

Today was very busy. I had a scout commissioners meetig to day from 8 am til 12 ish.. then checked on Geoff at the VLSC ( Venture Leader training) and roled played with them.. then onto an Eagle project and to the store for veggies and fruit .. I came home and made brownies, pasta salad, and then chocolate chessecake.. and I stopped by to say hi.. then I need to find a recipe for mac salad and for seven layer salad..
tomorrow I'll clean and wash the kitchen floor.. then it will be time for Geoff's grad party.. we are doing burger and ribs were way too much money for us.. I went to Costco and it was $10 per slab and we needed over 6 slabs.. so I chose burgers and lots of salads and fruit and desserts..

talk later..

Today started out OK, turned upwards around noon, then ended on a low note. Bleah!!

DD1 needed to go to a baby shower in Itasca. Since Carol and the girls are still a bit nervous about finding their way around, Carol offered to have us drive her up there. So, we headed out this morning to take her up to the Itasca Coutry Club off Irving Park Rd in Itasca. We found a new little diner called the Itasca Diner just around the corner on Walnut near the railroad tracks. It's a little 50's style diner with outdoor seating. So, Carol and I sat outside and enjoyed breakfast. Then, I drove her around the area a bit so she could see what was around there before heading back to pick up DD1 around 12:30. At that point, since we were close to O'Hare, I told Carol I'd take her to Superdawg for the experience. Now, I've grown up in the Chicago area, but had never actually been there myself, so this would be a fun thing for all three of us. Well, just as I pulled into Superdawg, my fan belt started screeching loudly. It was so sudden that I wasn't even sure it was me at first. I got out and looked and didn't see anything obviously wrong, but I figured the belt might not last until I got home since it came on so suddenly. Anyway, we enjoyed our Superdawgs and we made a bee line for home trying to make it before the belt went.

I made it to the Kennedy and just as I was coming up on Cumberland, I felt the power steering go out and knew that it must have spit the belt off. So, knowing I wouldn't make it the next 40 miles with no belt, I took the exit and pulled in at Cumberland and Higgins. A quick check under the hood confirmed the belt was history. There was no easy access to work on it, so I figured fixing it in the parking lot was out without burning the heck out of my hands and arms, so it was time to call AAA. AAA sent out a tow truck and told me they could get me a car from Hertz for $25 a day. Turns out the only Hertz rental in the area wa not setup to deliver a car to me. Since there was three of us, and the tow truck could only take two of us, we needed another way home. I could take a cab to O'Hare, Hertza would reimburse me up to $25 for the cab ride and then rent a car for $25. I could just have a cab take me home, but I figured that would end up running me close to a hundred dollars. I finally decided that the rental car was just way too much trouble for the savings and since I was so close to O'Hare anyway, I just called West Suburban Limo, which is who I use for airport service when I travel anyway. I knew West Suburban would have cars queued up at O'Hare.

So, AAA had the car towed to my house for free. West Suburban cost me a hundred bucks to get the three of us home. And now, no one has my replacement belt in stock, so I have to wait until tomorrow to fix it. Grrr... I was really hoping to put this whole mess to bed tonight.

Oh well. Carol and the girls are out at the Caribou Coffee unwinding.

Hope everyone else had a good day.

Sorry about the belt, John. PepBoys on Sunday? Too bad about Hertz. There used to be a Hertz RIGHT THERE on Higgins, East of Cumberland, but they're building something new in its place.
I told Carol I'd take her to Superdawg for the experience.
You were right by me! LOVE Superdawg!! :thumbsup2 Too bad you didn't have my number, we could've drove you home. ;) Hope you get your car fixed! :thumbsup2

John Sorry you are experiencing car issues. You are now the third person in the last month that I've know that had belt go on their cars. Hopefully you get your car fixed today without the rain beating down on you.

Alex went to a cougars game last night. He was cold but had a really good time.

Geffric I hope Geof's party is without rain and fun.

Slo How is Sophie enjoying her fence?

It just started to rain here. Oh yeah! The news is saying the rain is not going to stay around. I hope so I have outside things to do.

It was a very busy and productive weekend.

Dinner at Weber Grill was nice, but not our best experience there. They sat us next to the grills, which isn't the best place to be - so LOUD!!!!! Not a romantic place to sit:sad2: Poor Kevin didn't realize that the white stuff in his bowl was horseradish, he thought it was cottage cheese, and he ate a big spoonful of it - not good:sad2: My steak was medium rare, instead of medium, so it had to go back - that took alot away from the meal:guilty: So it wasn't our best experience there:sad2: But we'll be back, we still love it:thumbsup2

Yesterday was very productive with getting ready for the garage sale. We got all the boxes out of the storage unit, and got them emptied in the garage (not organized). The rest of the kids clothes are organized and ready to be put out. So the only thing left to do it organize the stuff in the garage, and then put all the clothes outside on Thursday morning :thumbsup2

The rest of the week is going to be dedicated now to getting the house ready for company on Thursday and Friday night. Everything in this house seems disgusting, because it's been so neglected. So that's next on my agenda:thumbsup2

Busy busy busy!!!!!

Dan, Kim, and Mac - :wave2:

HERSEY - Katie actually graduated from pre-school Friday night. I'll have to post some pictures when all this craziness goes away.:)
*She is loving her fenced in area :dog: Now I need to train her on how to tell me she wants to go out. She doesn't go potty in her pen area in the house, but she goes out when I tell her to go out. I would love for her to be out of her pen area, but she doesn't know how to communicate that she needs to go out, so she will go potty in the house. This is my next goal with her:thumbsup2

Becky - I"m sorry you didn't get to relax like you were hoping:guilty:

geffric - Was his grad party this past weekend, or this weekend coming up? I don't blame you about not buying the ribs:sad2:All that stuff adds up so fast. I hope the party goes/went really well. :)

Crissup - I'm sorry about the car:headache:I hope you are able to get it fixed soon:wizard:

Well, it's time for me to get Steph up for her last week of school:woohoo:
Have a great day!!!

Hi guys! Just a quick drive by. I've been MIA for a while, so so busy! We leave Fri for WDW and I have a million things to do and I'm fighting a cold! Ugh.....

Field trips went well. Was chilly on the Wendella boat but still had fun. Had a great time in Sprinfield with DDs Girl Scout troop. I HIGHLY recommend the Lincoln Museum, it was simply amazing. The weather was great and all the girls were perfectly behaved.

I've been reading along, just haven't had time to post. Congrats to all the graudates, hope eveyone else is surviving end of year activities. Hope Bunchkin's move goes well, we'll miss you hope you check in with us.

Well, I have to run. My punch list is very long and only 4 days to do it! Priority is to pack!

Have a great day! :flower3:

Good Afternoon Everyone! :flower3: The Avon Walk was a great success and a lot of fun! The Chicago walk raised $7 million dollars! We walked 39.3 miles in a day and a half (we finished around 1:00 yesterday). My legs were really sore last night and today are still sore. I learned from last year and took today off of work to relax. Here is a pic of our team

Slo ~ glad Katie's graduation went well! Good luck with the garage sale! Sorry you didnt have the greatest of experiences at the Weber Grill. I think Mike and I went there once... obviously it wasnt' too memorable b/c I'm not 100% certain!

Crissup ~ sorry to hear about your car. what a bummer! :sad2:

Geffric ~ hope Geoff's party went well! :goodvibes

Hope everyone is having a good day! :wave2:

Hey everyone! Holy weekend! Did alot on Saturday to get ready for Meg's party. On Sunday we went to DesPlains for a while to the Taste of Des Plains. It was nice but it got very chilly all of the sudden so we headed home. Finally finished up the Twilight Saga! I may need to read the last couple of chapters again. Mike was watching TV and kept asking "Are ya done yet?" I finally put myself in the bedroom but I really do need to revisit the last couple of chapters. I watched the movie yesterday and though I was happy to put faces with charactors and I do have a favorite part, I almost felt that it was to much like a music video. Very disappointing. :sad2:

Well busy week this week getting ready for Saturday! We are going to see Mary Poppins on Thursday and bringing Meg and her mom with us. There is a lot of together time going on here so please say a prayer for me. Thank God there will be alot of distractions!;)

DG ~ Congratulations on your walk! That is so wonderful! I am so happy for you and glad you are taking today for yourself!

ID ~ Can you put me in your suitcase? Have a wonderful trip!

Crissup ~ So sorry bout your car! Hope it has been resolved;)

Slo ~ Sorry bout Weber Grille! I can't remember did you go down town or Shaumberg? That's stinks because the idea is great! I actually thought abotu you on Saturday that you were there and told Mike:) Good luck getting ready for the garage sale! We are thinking about doing something this summer to clean out our crawl space but considering as of now our weeks and weekends have stuff going on until after July 17th it's not looking to good:eek:

Anyone plannign on going to Irish Fest at the Irish American Heritage Center? It is hte weekend of July 10th - 12th. Maybe we can meet up?

OK well back to work! Have a great day everyone!

E

I can hardly wait for this week to be OVER!!!!!!!
So much going on, and just not enough time to do it all.
I want my life back to normal, and I want my house and garage back to normal!!!!

ID - Good luck with your final preparations for WDW:wizard:and I hope your cold goes away:wizard:

DG - I"m so glad the walk went well, and that the walk raised alot of money :thumbsup2. How are your legs today?

esbrick - Good luck with all your time with Meg's mom this week :wizard:I think it's awesome that you are doing this, because it will make great memories for Meg:goodvibes I've heard WONDERFUL things about Mary Poppins, so I'm looking forward to hearing your review of it.
*We went to the restaurant downtown. We still love the place, even though our experience this past weekend wasn't the best. I will just make sure that when we return, I will specifically request to NOT sit where we sat before - I didn't like that at all!!!:sad2:

Well, it's time to get this day started.
Have a good Tuesday everyone!!!

Good Morning Everyone! :flower3: I'm back at work today! Didn't really want to get up though! Yesterday my dad and i went to see A Night a the Museum: Battle at the Smithsonian. It was really cute and funny. I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Slo ~ my legs are doing pretty well. my right ankle hurts when i try to flex or straighten it. i'm thinking tendinitis but who knows:confused3 i'll be fine!

Esbrick~ Congrats on finishing twilight. my sister's both loved the books and have been nagging me to read them. I don't know, i just can't get into them. :confused3 after all the hype i think maybe i would just be disappointed!

Everyone ~ :wave2: have a wonderful day!

Yawn........one more day until the garage sale:woohoo::yay:
I've been getting ready for this thing since January, when I put my Christmas decorations away. I'm so tired of thinking about it, that I can hardly wait for it to be over and out of my hair!!!!

Speaking of the garage sale.
I will not be on the rest of the week due to me having this. The sale begins at 8am, but I need to be outside by 6am getting stuff outside and organized, so I will have no time. I will try to check in on Sunday, but I may not, if I sleep in, then during the day, we have a ton of yard work to do. So I may not be back on until Monday. If anything major happens, that I should know about, please don't hesitate to call me at work (for those on Facebook, and have my store phone number). I will be at work Thur 10-1, Fri 10-2, and Sat 10-4.

DG - Thanks for the Night at the Museum review - I want to see it so bad!!!
**I"m glad your legs are doing okay, but I'm sorry about your ankle:guilty:I hope it feels better soon!!!!:wizard:

Well, I gotta run and clean some house for all the company I"m having over for dinner Thursday and Friday night.
Have a good day!!!

Good Morning Everyone! :flower3: I just didn't want to get up this morning. I think it has to do with the weather but boy oh boy... i'm tired.

Slo ~ Good Luck with everything!! :wizard: It will be over before you know it!

Good Morning everyone. Another rainy morning. I think it has been rainy every day since school has let out here.

DG -- We did Kyle's birthday party seeing Night at the Museum also. I did like the movie too. My kids are always quoting. We tend to get the bobble head Einsteins quotes a lot here for some odd reason. :lmao:

Today we get to go to Shriner's for Carolyn's 3 month check-up from surgery. I'm so excited because that means some restrictions should be lifted if all goes well. At least we hope. I'm tired of nagging her to death, she's tired of listening to me nag her to death.

Other than that not much going on today.

Hi guys! I've been so very productive and have almost everything on my 'To Do' list done. I just need it to stop raining so we can mow the lawn and plant some Hostas I brought home from the inlaws.

Nothing is in suitcases yet but it's nearly all gathered, that should be done tonight. Tomorrow I just need to finish up some cleaning and the tie dye Mickey shirts we made.

slo - good luck with the garage sale and your dinner parties! Hopefully next week/weekend won't be so crazy for you.

Becky - it has been raining since school got out, ugh! I need these kids out of the house so I can get things done, lol. DH and DS are quoting the movie all the time around here too!

disneygal - glad the walk went well, hope the ankle feels better soon. We loved Night at the Museum too!

esbrick - best of luck with the together time, just remember it's all for Meg - right! Would love to see Mary Poppins, will be interested to hear your review.

:wave2: to everyone else!

Well, have to run and pick up DD7 from volleyball. Then need to finish up packing and clean the bathrooms. Have a great day everyone! :flower3:
