Calling all Chicago DISers #3

Hi gang! Just a quick check in today.

Slo - Poor Stephanie! I hope she is feeling better and able to have fun on her break.

Geffric - Why didn't you chaperone the Hawaii trip? Too fun for you ds. Cornell sounds like a great school for your son. My ds is in the gifted program and has ADHD and I worry about his future schooling. He doesn't get the grades he is capable of since he doesn't remember to turn the work in. So frustrating!

Bunchkin - thanks for the tip on the gluten free grocery store! I wll visit their site to see what I can find. Prayers and pixie dust to your dh, his mom and dad and all of your family.

Crissup - I'll call you when I need a light fixture changed! You have it mastered now!

See you all tomorrow!
Lori

Evening all.
Slo, hope Steph feels better soon. You are right - sick on vacation is no fun!:sad2:
geffric, I think I would have had to hide in DS suitcase to Hawaii. I'd promise he'd never run into me in front of his friends.
Bunchkin, I think you need one of those. Tell Lauren congrats on her Math Bee and good luck!
Crissup, thank goodness for Light! :wizard:
Mac, I go over the border here to shop, too. To the east. Taxes in IN are cheaper than IL. I hear Six Flags is filing for bankruptcy. Are they going to open this summer? Kids will have their reading slips that I am now afraid we, once again, will not use.:rolleyes1
Paint, sorry to hear the recession has hit your pocket. :headache: What a bummer to have a slow weekend.
momto1, I haven't packed a thing and have no idea what will or won't fit the kids-or me for that matter.:rolleyes1I have had a very lazy (read between the lines) winter:guilty:.
Donna, all you bought was treats?:confused:I know I couldn't walk out with only that.:rolleyes1
Hi to hersey, piglet, ID, DH and every other lurker.
Hope everyone enjoyed their day. I managed to get the floors swept, vacuumed and mopped and :laundy:all done, walked the dog, went to a 2 hour meeting at work, and fix dinner. I am pooped. Going to watch the DWTS result show and fall asleep.
Oh, the recession has hit home here as well. DH has been cut to 4 days a week with a max of 32 hours. It's going to be a long summer.:sad2:We had no vacation plans, and now looks like we won't be making any either. Guess we had better enjoy spring break.
Night all.

Hi guys! I am so very far behind! The time has just been flying by lately. I've been spending a good bit of time over on TGM planning our June trip which is fun. No one on break here yet, DS is next week and the girls are the week after Easter. That is one thing that I don't like about having them in different schools is the different breaks and days off.

DH should find out shortly about his job. He said it is very gloomy in his office and hard to work with everyone talking about the layoffs, he's trying to be positive but is struggling. Those taking the early retirement pkg had to notify by last week, a lot more people than they thought took the pkg which could be good. I just wish they'd be done with it rather than leaving it hanging.....:headache:

The good news is I have a part-time job lead. I used to have my own Irish dance studio for 17+ yrs but retired in Aug 2007 as my teaching partner was leaving and I just didn't want to run the school on my own. It was getting too difficult to juggle with the kids and the stress level was huge. Well, DD7 is taking hip-hop at a new local studio and I emailed the owner to see if she'd be interested in offering Irish dance and she is! It'll only be part time but will help make ends meet. :yay:

Crissup - lol on the light, that sounds like something that would happen around here! Nothing is ever as easy as it should be....

slo- so sorry Stephanie is sick during break, I hope she's better soon!

geffric - wow Hawaii, that will be an amazing trip I hope he has a great time!

mac - I too am wondering what is up with Six Flags, have you heard anything?

Bunchkin - wow, I hope things get a bit easier for DH with his parents. Congrats to your DD on the Math Bee!

paint - sorry work was slow I hope it picks up for you. How are your trip plans coming along? Do you want to try and meet up while we're there?

Tiggerrn - you need to get packing!! So sorry that your DHs hours have been cut. :sad2:

momto1 - there's a lot of gluten free stuff out there, you'd be surprised. We did the gluten free diet with DS for a while as it is very popular in the Autism community and we were able to find a lot of stuff in the regular grocery store. Unfortunately the diet didn't do anything for DS so he's off it now. Good luck to your Mom.

:wave2: to Donna, piglet, Hersey, disneygal, Dan, Leigh and all our Chicago buddies!

Man, that wind tonight sounds brutal. Guess we'll wait til morning to put out the garbage cans or else they'll end up all over the neighborhood like last week. Tomorrow the girls have Mass before school and the 2nd graders are having a Committment Ceremony for their Communion so I've got to be up, showered, dressed and in church by 8a in addition to getting everyone breakfast and making lunches so I'm going to hit the hay early tonight. Have a great night all. :flower3:

just a quick drop by.

to answer the question i saw for me, six flags is opening next month.
they are staying open for the season.

the emails i get from them really reflect how bad off they are.

i can renew my season pass for $69.

haven't done so yet, not sure.

Hi all,

Sorry I have been away for so long. I don't know, I have been out of sorts.

I am not sure if things are 100% better, but I'm getting there.

I hope everyone is doing well.

Be back very soon.

Thanks for all your well wishes for Stephanie:grouphug:
She is doing much better!!!!:)
Kevin and I did some research on what she had, and she had the exact symptoms of salmonella. She ate 3 hard boiled eggs at my in-laws, and she got sick shortly after. The way she was just didn't seem like a stomach virus, because she was in ALOT of pain - I mean ALOT!!!!! I called my inlaws and told them to throw away those egss. If Katie gets sick, than I'll know she had a virus, but I think it was the eggs. My inlaws feel bad, but I assured them they shouldn't, because it's not their fault:sad2: All I know is Steph is better, which is a great thing!!!!:thumbsup2

geffric - I'm sorry to hear about the dryer:guilty: Reading your travels to buy a new one made me do this :faint: I'm glad you were able to find one and buy it. When it rains it pours doesn't it?!

Donna - I"m glad you had a good time at the pet show :)

Bunchkin -I"m so sorry to hear about Tony's mom :guilty:I will keep her in my prayers to get better soon so she can resume her treatment. I will also keep Tony in my prayers so he doesn't get to stressed out. Please keep us posted on how everyone is doing
**Congrats to Lauren for being selected to be in the Math Bee:cheer2:

TTTTiiiggernnnn - I'm sorry to hear about your Dh's hours getting cut :guilty:We are going on vacation either this year, so we can all be sad together
**What are the taxes in Crete? Kevin thought they are 6%. I keep wondering if I should check out that new Kohls.

ID - That's awesome about the part-time job lead. I hope everything work out, and the dance studio definitly wants you to teach the class:wizard:

Disneynut - Good to see you!!!! :wave2:
I'm sorry you haven't been well, and I hope you feel better soon :wizard:

To everyone else - :wave2:

Well, I gotta run and eat my grapefruit, and then get ready for work
Have a good day!!!

Geffric - Why didn't you chaperone the Hawaii trip?

the chaperones pay the full amount of the trip.. so it was not affordable.. Eric paid 1/2 and we paid 1/2..

SLO - glad that she is feeling better but food posioning YIKES..

Bunchy - nice to see you..Congrats to your DD on the Math Bee!

..:grouphug:prayers for Tony's Mom and family and Tony to get through all of this.. it has got to be hard for him to watch his parents ..

Tiggerrn - So sorry that your DHs hours have been cut. It is tough out there.. but at least he has health insurance.. lots of places to go for short summer vacations that are local..do you camp.. we take the tent and drive and cook our own food so the trip is much less expensive..

Good Morning Everyone! :flower3: had an all company meeting yesterday (even non-year round employees). The good news is, I still have a job that is fairly secure for now!

Anybody part of the DisneyMovieClub? I'm considering but want opinions first! :)

Slo ~ glad Stephanie is feeling better. :wizard:pd that Katie doesn't get sick.

Geffric ~ most department stores carry xl twin sheets as well!

Bunchkin ~ DH and his parents will be in my prayers. Congrats to DD on the math bee. she must be so excited and nervous!

Tigg ~ sounds like you had a very productive day yesterday! That must feel nice! Sorry to hear about DH job.

Everyone else ~ :wave2: have a great day!

Thanks for letting us know about Dan, piglet.
momto1, found lots of gluten free items in the freezer section at Stracks and Van Tils today. Good luck toyour mom on theis diet.
Slo, glad to hear Steph is feeling better already.
Mac, thanks for the 6flags info.
geffric, we have a tent my SIL gave us a couple of years ago. I do believe we may try it out this year in the area. Kids would probably have a blast. Would have to be very short trips for me. I hate those yucky showers at campgrounds. I am more of a hotel snob. :snooty::laughing:
Disneynut, hope you are feeling well again soon.
ID, good luck with the job possibility!:wizard:
Hi to all, I need to run and get the kids from school and get my cookie sale copies into the teachers boxes for next week's cookie day.
Later

Thanks for the link piglet..

Tiggerrn2 check out Starved Rock state park.. makes me feel like I am a lot further away from Chi than I am...

Bunchy Congrats to Lauren :thumbsup2 I still have all of you on my prayer list.

Slo I'm glad Stephanie is getting better how scarey.

I am starting to wonder if anyone has contact info for Dan or Marie. I hate this not knowing how he is doing.

I have his email address.

I will email him today and hope that either Dan or Marie will respond.
I will keep us posted!!!

Good Morning Everyone! :flower3: As I walking down Jackson this morning next to the Sears Tower, some creepy, gross guy patted me on the back and said something along the lines of "i'd like to say good morning to you" (in a gross creepy guy type voice). I was thoroughly creeped out. I don't like random strangers touching me purposefully at all (not like many people do) but this guy just creeped me out. he didn't look homeless but it definitely looked like he hadn't showered in years. The entire rest of the way to work I was thinking he put something on my back. Luckily my purse and bag were on the other side of me and I checked to make sure I still had my wallet, ipod, and cell phone.

Piglet ~ thanks for letting know about Dan. I hope he is doing alright!:wizard:

Well, i better get to work, i have a meeting at 10... Have a wonderful day everyone! :wave2:

we would do that when we were in grade school.
and i always got caught.

Hi gang! Counting down the days to vacation! Starting to question my ADR's. I have to stop overplanning!

DG - Ooo, ick! I am glad that he didn't take anything from you!

Slo - Salmonella! I hope she is feeling better! Did Katie come down with it, too?

ID - Good for you on a lead on a part-time job. We have an irish dance school near my house. DS once said he wanted to give it a try. He has so much going on that we vetoed that activity. I love watching it though

Tiggern2 - Thanks for the information on Strack and Van Till. It is one of my weekly stops. I will check out their selection. If you want to camp, want activities but not rustic, try Yogi Bear in Millbrook. We have our camper there. Starved Rock is a great suggestion, too. Have camped there and loved it.

Hersey - Here is to no more car troubles for you!

Hi to everyone else. Don't mean to forget anyone or not acknowledge you!
Lori

Momto1 - funny you should mention Yogi Bear at Millbrook. Our cub scout pack camped there every June.. prob still does.. great place and fun for the kids.. i felt that they were safe to run around and have fun...I still get mail from them every year.. we have also camped at Starved Rock , hiked the trails, and the brunch was great..

DisneyGal-- too creepy on the train.. I would be creeped out too.. stay safe..

SLO thanks for letting us know about Dan. Hopefully he is okay..
