Calling all Chicago DISers #2

Don't feel bad. I've been so bad that I've been lurking and not posting anything, aside from the occassional quick blurb. Even on my own site, I've been pretty scarce for the past year. If it weren't for Cleo keeping things running over there, it probably would have died a year ago.

I sometimes think about saying "Get well to all sickies, happy birthday to all birthday peoples, etc). LOL!! But then I think that would look like I didn't care enough about anyone to remember their personal dates. I worry too much about stuff at times. LOL!!

Anyway, good to see you back. You, Slo and Bunchy are among the first ones I notice missing when I don't see ya's around for a while.

It's nice to be missed.
And congrats to your DD on graduating from nursing school. Wish I could depart some wise words of wisdom for her, but "hang on to your hats and glasses folks!" is about the best I can tell her. A nursing career is about as wild a ride as it gets sometimes. But, oh the stories she will be able to tell!

Holly ice tea Batman! Wowsers it's cold out there. I ran out yesterday to do some banking and ran back home.

I'm going to strangle someone if I catch him getting off the bus with his coat unzipped no gloves and hat again. I didn't think Alex would be a slave to fashion. When did freezing to death become a fashion statement anyway :confused3.

John I'm sorry I seem to have missed saying Congrat's to you and your daughter :cheer2: :cheer2:

Alex meet with the counselor yesterday and picked his electives. We will know in the spring what classes he actually gets. This is soo strange.

I am off to jump in the shower and get ready to go out in this stuff.

Brrrrrrrrrr.........:cold:
That's all I can say right now!!!!!

The ice around here is just crazy!!!!!
I have so much ice in front of my store door, that I'm nervous about anyone walking on it. The landscape people put down salt, and I put down salt, but nothing will penetrate it - weird!!!!! Than, poor Kevin, had a terrible commute yesterday - it took him 2 1/2 hours to get to work:eek: That's how long it takes us to get to Indianapolis:eek: This time of year, with type of weather, just sucks for him:guilty:

Last night was the FD family Christmas party - it was great seeing everyone!!!. I love so many of the wives there, and I wish I could see them more. But with work, kids, life, we never get a chance to get together except for these type of events.

At work, this is the calm before the storm. I say that, because right now I have nothing to do, because I'm waiting for all my materials tomorrow and Thursday. At that time, I will have mountains to get done - especially 3 jersey's and now a shirt from Africa (which is pretty cool). This is going to be approx. a 57 hour work week for me :faint: As much as I love the business, and hope for more, I'm looking forward to Christmas so I can have a rest:)

DMM - The pictures look fantastic!!!!:goodvibes I'm a huge advocate of having pictures taken, because I want to capture as many memories of my girls childhood as possible. The way I look at it, is when the pictures are taken, they will never be that age again, so therefore, I don't mind spending the money to preserve that memory :goodvibes Please post the family one when you receive it - I would love to see that too!!!!

HERSEY - I hope you had a good day off yesterday :)

Bunchkin - I'm sorry about Lauren being sick:guilty: Here's some PD for Lauren to get better:wizard: and here's some for you all to not get sick:wizard:
**Be careful on this ice with your bad foot - I was thinking of you when I walked on the ice yesterday.

TTTTTTiiiiggggernnnnnnnn - I'm so glad to see you back!!!! If I didn't see you soon I was going to call you and see if everything was okay.

Crissup - Don't feel like you need to remember personal dates, because I don't:sad2: (I'm terrible with that actually  ) We always love seeing you, so please don't ever hesitate to post :grouphug:

Well, I gotta run and get this day started
Have a good day everyone!!!

Winter weather advisory here! I need FL! My sister and her dh are there and sent me pics of Chef Mickey's yesterday. Wah! She said it was 80 and sunny.
Sorry I've been MIA. I've been trying to pick up shifts for last minute $. My Gma came home yesterday. Thanks for all the prayers and positive thoughts. We are going to their house for Xmas eve. I also got one of my grades- a C in Spanish, but you all know, from my complaints, that a C is good for me in that class! I'll find out the rest on Wednesday. I am not concerned, though. Everything else should be good.
Hersey- I told dd I was going to start deducting from her allowance when I see her with her coat unzipped.
tig- Pm'ing for Xmas cards. I hope to take the pics this weekend at Brookfield Zoo, so the cards will be late!
Bunchkin- glad your ankle is doing better!
dmm- Love the pics. Ds looks so cute in the top mid one!
slo-I need to get going on my xmas cookies or they won't get to the teachers! What'd you make? anything different you'd like to share?
donna- for Mark's sister

Trying for a productive day- want to do some bakign and wrapping, then maybe visit Santa this evening. It bugs me that you can't take pics with your own camera, even if you but the ridiculously overpriced package.

Quick morning hello. Off to shop in the frigid aire! I discovered yesterday going through what I do have, that DD doesn't have much. DS was easy to buy for this year-he wanted all things Bakugan. DD didn't have much on her list and what she does have is not easy to find. She wants Bend-a-roos? Something she saw on TV and, of course, I don't have a clue where to find that. It's some arts/crafts thing. There is a store at Southlake Mall that has As Seen on TV. So if I have no luck elsewhere today, I will try there. She also wants Webkinz, but I am reluctant as she has so many stuffed critters already, I hate to add more to the pile.
Paint, congrats on passing Spanish. I know how much you dread that class.;)
Slo, have a relaxed day today so you can be rested for the rest of the week.
DMM, your pix are so nice. I have no issue about money for pix. Good shots can never be replaced. You will treasure those family photos.
Hersey, just think, 4 more years and you will be ACT prepping and college hopping.:rolleyes1  Time goes by so fast any more. Always seemed so slow when I was a kid, but now I can't keep up.
Well, I need to jump in the shower and get moving. I am wasting the kids' away time.

Morning everyone~

Bunchkin ~ Hope Lauren is feeling better soon.

Slo ~ I am still planning to come see you, but I'll wait until it is a little less busy for you.

paint ~ A "C" is great for a class that was such a struggle. Congrats!

Mornin everyone! Thanks for the compliments!
Paint, that is our favorite one of him! he's like a little Italian gangster! hahaha! His daddy is proud ;)

So, Dewain and I are thinking about taking the kids up to the Dells during the break. Any suggestions on where to stay, or where not to stay? (We looked at Grand Bear Lodge in Utica, but I read a lot of reviews stating that the room water has a strong sulfur smell, and my nose would not tolerate that.)

Hi gang!

Quick questions today -
Does anybody know anything about the Museum of Sports History in downtown Chicago on Fairbanks?

I am looking for something different to do with ds over Christmas break and this came up as a Chicago Museum but I can't find anything else out about it? Maybe it is part of another musuem? I can only find the name and address.

TIA!
Lori

Hi guys! Wow, what a busy couple of days. Saturday DDs and I spent the entire day (11a-9p) baking at DSils. We got a ton of cookies done though so it was very productive.

Sunday I met two girlfriends I haven't seen in a few months for lunch, unfortunately it wasn't as happy and festive as I would have liked. One is having marital difficulties and the other girlfriend's dad was diagnosed with lukemia. It was good to see them but I left feeling sad for them. DD7 also had her dance class Christmas party/show Sunday night. I sent DH and DD11 and they took a video. The tickets were pricy so I didn't want to spend the extra $32 for myself and DS8 to go. They had a great time, DH said there were a lot of people there but they ran out of food so I would have been peeved if we'd spent $76 for the 5 of us to go and then didn't even get to eat.

My mom came home from the hospital yesterday. DBro, DSis and I went in the morning so the PT and OT could show us what DMom has been learning. Should be interesting to see if she does any of it at home, she is the most stubborn person and insists on doing things 'her' way. I think she's just incapable of not being in charge. Ugh, aging is so hard.

Tonight is going to be busy. DS is in a play at his school and DD11 has her band concert and of course they're forecasting bad weather. DH and I are dividing up to see both.

disneygal - I hope all goes well for your dad tomorrow, will keep him in my prayers.

momto1 - yikes I have to get the teacher gifts ready too!

wendygrace - my DS has Autism, he is very high functioning but has sunch a hard time with social situations and needs a lot of structure.

slo - enjoy the down time, I hope the mad rush tommorrow and Thursday won't be too bad.
*The salt might not be working on the ice because it is so cold outside. I don't think it works as well in the super cold weather.

piglet - glad you got good news on you grandma.
*We've only been to the Dells once but we stayed at Great Wolf Lodge. We liked it but it was a long time ago.

Donna - ooh, I love to wrap but we've done a lot of online shopping this year and sent it all to my inlaws so the kids wouldn't find it. FIL likes to wrap too so he's wrapped it all so I will only have a few things to do.
*Sorry to hear about your SIL, will keep her in my prayers.

Bunchkin - I hope Lauren feels better soon and I hope she doesn't share it with the rest of you.

DMM - those pics came out beautiful, even though they were expensive they will be something you cherish.

Hersey - it sure is cold out there! I don't have to worry about my girls as they have a nun for a principal that is VERY strict about hats, gloves, boots, etc. DS on the other hand has come home twice now without his gloves! The backs of his hands are so chapped they are bleeding and the child leaves his gloves at school  .

paint - congrats on the C in Spanish! Also, glad to hear your grandma came home.

Tiggerrn - my DD7 wants Bend-a-roos too, if you find them let me know. She showed me the commercial yesterday because I had no idea what she was talking about.

:wave2: to all the other Chicago homies!

OK, I guess I have to get to work. The dryer buzzed anyway so I guess I'll go fold that load. I was going to do a little shopping but it's so cold I might just get some things done here at home today.

Have a great night everyone! :santa:

For Sale One Teenager CHEAP I guess one day his ears and fingers are just going to fall off.

ID I should send Alex to your school :rolleyes1 When I went to private school we walked so you didn't even think about not being covered from head to toe.

:surfweb:
Katie woke me up at 3:45am and I couldn't go back to sleep - I'm tired!!!!
She went back to sleep right away - all she wanted was her music on

paint - Congrats on getting a grade you are happy with in Spanish :cheer2:
**I made pan style Nestle Toll House cookies, because they are super easy, and everyone loves them. In fact, everyone loves them in my family more than actual cookies:) I've signed up on the Pillsbury website, and they seem to have some cookie receipes, but I won't have time to cook them this year. You should check them out :thumbsup2
**I'm glad your Grandma came home!!!!:)

Tiggggggggggggggern - Good luck finding Kellie's gift:wizard: . I've never heard of that either, and I"m curious on what it is.

piglet - Whenever you want to come just let me know and I'll give you directions :teeth:
**I haven't been to The Dells in so long, and it sounds like fun:cool1:

momto1 - I've never heard of that museum. I'm sorry I can't help:guilty:

ID - Wow, you've had a lot going on!!! I"m sorry to hear about your friends rough times - not good at Christmas!! I hope everything works out for them, and the one's dad feels better soon :wizard:
**I'm glad your mom is home now :) Forgive me, but I don't remember what was wrong with her  Would you please refresh my memory.
**How was your sons play and your DD's band concert last night?

HERSEY - My guess is Alex wasn't bundled up yesterday  When I was a teenager, I would go out with wet hair:eek: If Stephanie would do that now, I would have a fit!!!!!! When I start walking again when the time changes, there'll be teenagers out waiting for the bus in flip-flops when it's 45 degrees out:sad2: I always think they are nuts, and then I remember I was nuts to once:rotfl:

tracirae1105 - :welcome:
Welcome to our happy thread!!!!! We hope you come by often - we would love to get to know you!!!! :goodvibes

Mac - :wave2:

Well, I gotta get in the shower so I can drive Stephanie to school today. She has something going on with student council this morning, and she's afraid the bus will make her late.

Have a good day!!!

HI all! :wave2:

Had to go out in all that snow yesterday afternoon to get DD and the nieghbor girl from Newspaper club at school. That was a fun drive!!

Got a lot of wrapping done yesterday....fianlly!

Going shopping in a while, and to renew my drivers license. Need to take the vision test & pay $10. Since when do you have to pay?

Hersey On occasion Lauren tries to come home half-dressed too! Crazy kids!!

slo What kind of music does Katie listen to in order to fall asleep?

irish dancer Sorry to hear what your friends are going through.
Parents can be stubborn...no matter what age! :)

disneygal Hope all is going well with your dad today!

paint Glad your grandma's home!
Don't fret over the C in Spanish.

DMM You can't put a price on cuteness! :thumbsup2

crissup Dates don't matter, it's the thought that counts the most! :)

piglet I haven't been to the Dells in eons!!!

momto1 I've never heard of that type of museum. :confused3

tracierae :welcome: to the Chicago thread!

Hi guys! This weather is really beginning to wear on me, at least it's sunny today.

DSs play last night was so cute! They did such a good job. Driving there though was the pits. DH went to DDs band concert and it took him 30min to go the 2.5mi to school  . He said it was good too (I saw it Mon when they did the whole school assembly).

tracirae - Welcome to our group! Hope you come by often so we can get to know you!

slo - my mom's problem is primarily age, she needs a knee replacement and has been falling a lot. When she fell 4x in one day DBro who is her primary caregiver decided enough was enough. She was on the hospital's Transitional Care unit getting PT and OT. Now we just have to see if she'll follow through with the exercises, etc.

:wave2: to everyone else!

Have to run and pick up DD7 from Brownies then a quick dinner and off to her dance class. Have a great night everyone! :santa:

Tiggerrn - my DD7 wants Bend-a-roos too, if you find them let me know. She showed me the commercial yesterday because I had no idea what she was talking about.
Have a great night everyone! :santa:

Hey ID! I found them!! They do have them at Westfield Mall in Hobart, IN. The store is called All You See On TV. It is on the upper level-I think I was by Sears? Not sure, but definately upper level.
Funny thing, as I was driving home the Walgreens sign was flashing an ad for those. So maybe you could check you nearest Walgreens for them first. It is not a very big box but contains 500 of the bendable stix. $25:scared1: But is was one of the very few things DD has on her list. Good luck in finding them for yourself. They had plenty at the mall, though if you need to treck over there for them.

hersey, did you count the number of fingers your son has .........

if none fell off, that means he wore his gloves today......

i can remember when mine wore shorts to high school in below zero temps..........
he survived it but i didn't.....
