As for getting reception in the kitchen without running wires, there are a few options. One option is a video sender put out by X10.( I cant post a link because I don't have 10 posts yet) Having this in the kitchen can cause interference in you picture when you run certain equipment like the microwave or mixers. These things can interfere with the wireless frequency. I had one in my bedroom from the TV downstairs and the picture and sound were great. I could also use the remote to change channels on the DTV box downstairs.
X10 also has a product that will send the signal over your power lines. I use something like it for my internet. It have to have internet at my TV to get On Demand for Directv. X10 is a neat technology that not many people know about plus it's relativley inexpensive.
Hope this helps.
