We have cable TV and cable modem internet.

Our computer has TV capability.

How can I get the cable to run into my computer for cable TV too?

Anyone know???

Thanks,

Dawn

if your CPU is cable ready all that you need to do is to split the cable before you go in the modem and just send the cable to the TV card then it should work

Any idea why the cable guy said we can't split this line? Will it make the internet slower?

Thanks,

Dawn

The cable companies always try to make more money by telling customers that something that is 100% possible without flaws is not possible, and then sticking them with a $90 installation bill. :sad2:

If you have a "Cable TV Box" then your signal may need to be descrambled first. In this case you would split your signal after your "Box" and run one to your TV and one to your TV card in your computer with coaxial (more than likely).
All signals before your "Box" are analog, and after are digital.

A regular splitter may not work in splitting before your cable modem unless you know the frequency required for your modem. You need a special splitter called a "Diplexer" and again it will limit you to only analog signals if you have a digital TV box in the house.

I used to work for Directv.

Thanks all!

We are going to work on this. I do have a box I could add, but I think right now I am just going to stick to the basic channels. Our computer has the ability to record like a Tivo and I really just want it as shows while I am online.

Now if I could just find a way to have TV for news and such in my kitchen without having to rewire inside the walls.....

I was excited to switch to Dish so that I could have the mirror TV things, but Dish can't even get a signal at our house because of the tree line! Directv works here but we can't get High Def because of our trees. GRRRR!!!

As for getting reception in the kitchen without running wires, there are a few options. One option is a video sender put out by X10.( I cant post a link because I don't have 10 posts yet) Having this in the kitchen can cause interference in you picture when you run certain equipment like the microwave or mixers. These things can interfere with the wireless frequency. I had one in my bedroom from the TV downstairs and the picture and sound were great. I could also use the remote to change channels on the DTV box downstairs.

X10 also has a product that will send the signal over your power lines. I use something like it for my internet. It have to have internet at my TV to get On Demand for Directv. X10 is a neat technology that not many people know about plus it's relativley inexpensive.

Hope this helps.

Can you PM me the link? I could put the TV in the sunroom which is right next to the kitchen and could still see it while cooking, etc...

Would this also work with Directv without having to pay for an additional box or is it only with Cable?

I wish we didn't have the tree problem as I prefer Directv to Cable in the first place.

Hi Dawn,
I think we live in the same general area IIRC. Just wanted to say: I HATE ALL THOSE TREES TOO!!!! We have an easement behind our house for Duke Power, and when those guys came to trim the trees over the lines I was all "go ahead and cut down whatever you want, it's fine with me!" So they took out 3-4 trees for me (barely making a dent in the forest behind my house), I was thrilled, but boy, you should have heard my neighbors complaining like mad. LOL

Anyway, good luck getting TV through your computer! :)

We had one of these on our kitchen TV. It worked great, but was really, really annoying every time the microwave came on. It obliterated the picture and all you could hear was the loud static noise made by the microwave. I finally moved it up into my dd's room instead.

Check into seeing how much it costs to add another outlet the real way. Last time I did it (a few years ago for the kitchen TV in our other house) it wasn't all that much and ended up being money well spent.

I'm sorry I can't PM you.... I still don't have 10 posts yet.

Here's the web site

Like I said.. it's relatively cheap and it's mobile. Your not stuck with it in just one spot.

Here's the same product from Radio Shack.
