Hi!

Contemplating on what to pack for 5/5 cruise and was wondering about children's pajamas. Are the cabins generally on the cool side or warm side? Are they each individually controlled? Thanks for the help!

I already packed all my daughters clothes for that same cruise LOL....I put in long sleeved footed pj's for her since I keep the hotel room pretty cold that we are staying at before the cruise.

aprilgirl2 ... where are you staying before the cruise?

We rented a house for 5 days then we are staying at the Poly for 3 nights...where are you staying???

We're at the Dolphin the night before and then at the Poly for 3 nights following. Can't wait. I've never done the Dolphin before, I'm a little nervous, but I figure it's a good chance to try it out since it's only one night. I couldn't pass up the $149 price. However, I couldn't go to Disney without staying at the Poly, so we added that on to the end.

This is our first cruise. We haven't told the kids yet. Our plan is to tell them on Fri. morning that we're leaving that a.m. for WDW via AutoTrain. On Saturday, when we arrive I'm going to tell them we're staying at Dolphin for one night since I couldn't get rooms at Poly. Then on Sunday a.m., on the way to the ship, we're going to tell them about the cruise. There are two more families (friends) who are meeting us at the ship. The children all go to school together, but none of them know about cruise. There will be 15 of us all together. We got three Cat. 4 rooms. We just received our room numbers, as were on a GTY basis. I can't believe it's almost here.

How many children are you cruising with?

Orginally it was a 14 year old boy and my 2 year old daughter but the boy (my godson) has cancer and is not well enough to travel now....we still have the handicapped room that we were getting for him though, we are in 7638 (a Catagory 5). We were supossed to fly down and just do the Poly and cruise but after Sept 11th I can not get my mom on a plane so we are now driving down and staying there an additional 5 days.
I wish I didn't tell my daughter we were going because every morning I get "mommy can we go to FLorida today??" Now she is also worried about how are we going to get back to our car if they take us on a boat.

I'm so sorry to hear about your godson. I hope things get better.

We are taking the AutoTrain down, but driving home. I've never been a good flyer and now I don't even consider it. My youngest just turned 4, so I don't know what to expect with the Kids Club. She attends pre-school, so I think she will be anxious to participate, but my other children are a little older, so she won't be with them. I look at this as a family vacation, so anytime my husband and I get alone together will be an added bonus.

Have a great time packing! Hopefully we will have great weather and a wonderful vacation!

Is Bucks County PA anywhere near Buck Hill Falls or Callies Candy Kitchen???
I looked into the Auto Train but it was so expensive, I figure I will drive to SC and then stay over the night and finish up the next day.

The rooms did not seem to get cool enough for us. We had it on the coldest setting and we were just fine. Have fun! Christine

The rooms did not seem overly cool to us, either. On arrival they were too hot. We set it on the coolest setting and were mostly pretty comfortable. Occasionally when I had the verandah door open we'd have to shut it because it made the room too warm. This was in mid-March.

As for the Kid's Club, my 3 1/2-year-old daughter went into it when we needed her to. She wasn't as excited about it as her older brother. He woke up each morning asking when he could go. She went in it some part of each day, fortunately. I think it's a good program. The counselors I met really interacted with the children. I was also impressed with security. I arrived a couple of times to pick them up during times when they were being transported. I was happy to wait while the procedures were followed. I considered it a small price for knowing they are well cared for.

Thanks for the great info!

aprilgail2 ... bucks county is about 45 min. above Philadelphia. We're also not far from Princeton, NJ.

We got a good rate southbound on the Auto Train (2 adults, 4 children and van) for $580.00. The price northbound was closer to $800, so we're driving. We have relatives in both South and North Carolina, so we usually stop over, visit and then continue on the next day.

Well it looks like we are all kinda neighbors. Dh works in Princeton, NJ. I was reading your post about surprising the kids and I had to respond. Last year we took a 10 day trip to WDW in Nov. The kids thought we were going later on in the year. The morning we left we made the kids get up for school, pack their backpacks and at the very last minute I had my son read a poem I wrote. I explained to him that I wrote it for him to read at Thanksgiving dinner..but really the poem explained the whole trip. I will never forget their faces or their excitement. This June we are planning a cruise and a trip to WDW. The kids know all about the WDW part but have no idea about the cruise. They think we are just thinking of going on a cruise in 2003. I figure we will break the news when we get in the car to drive home (which to me is the worst feeling in the world...leaving WDW). When we up at Cape Canaveral it willbe another magical moment. Can't wait to see their faces all over again. Anyway..thanks for letting me ramble. Enjoy your trips

AnnaB ... sounds like fun to me!!! My children are quite anxious to go on the cruise, but I told them we would have to wait for next year. They think we are going to WDW in Oct. for Halloween.

I am planning on sending them to school in the morning, so that I can get the car packed. They start at 8:10 a.m. -- we will get them at 10:00. We will tell them on the way out to the bus about the trip to WDW.

I can't wait to see their faces when we arrive at the port on Sunday. My SIL just purchased a home in Naples, and that is where we are telling them we are driving to on Sunday. I figure they will see the ship, and we will "stop" to see it. I'm still trying to decide on how to finally tell them. I was going to hand them their boarding passes, but my one daugther's cabin is different than ours since she is staying with our friends. They have four in their family and we have six, this way we could all be in Category 4's. I'm afraid she'll notice the room difference and that will spoil the next surprise, that they are traveling with us.

Anyway we do it, it will be well worth the excitement!

Aprilgail2- My prayers are with your family and your Godson. I hope one day after he is well he can enjoy the Disney Magic.
DisneyPoly- How old are your kids ? My DS is 8 and DD is 6. I know that with my kids they wouldn't even think to look at the room assignment. You can always take a chance and give them the boarding passes at the very last second, maybe give them some other type of clue that they are actually getting on board like a printed itinary. This way she can still have one more surprise...your friends. I live for surprises so the more times you can get them/give them the better

AnnaB ... my kids are 4, 8, 9 and 12. The 12 year is sharp as a whip and would definitely pick up on his sister's "wrong" number. Possibly amongst the excitement, it will be overlooked! By that point, if we've kept it in that long, anything goes!

I sailed on the Wonder last June and I found the room to be on the warm side. We kept the air on the lowest temp possible. Part of the problem may have been we wanted to keep the balconey door open to feel the breeze-however the room quickly became hot and stuffy and it would take forever to cool off again. I'd say the lightest cotten pj's would be fine.

Please tell me it's not hot in the staterooms! We will be bringing a small travel fan (and extension cord) because DH simply has to have the room ice cold to sleep. (We turn our temps down to 65 degrees at night.) We are in a porthole room - no window to open.

It will be a miserable 7 nights if it's hot in the room.:(
