We are staying at WL in October and I want to get an idea of what we can expect from the little buggers. Do most people use bug spray there? Is the WL with all its 'woodsyness' an area which attacts them more? Are the parks affected? What do people usually bring? Sprays get so sticky. How many of you keep your balcony windows open at night? Any problems?

bzz bzzz!

I've never kept my balcony window open (it was July :rotfl: ). As with most of the resorts we've been at, I never really noticed them or got bit. We wouldn't go on our balcony at night to watch Wishes though, because we thought we might get eaten up!

we were at akl last october. i didnt really notice any bugs, but we wore the avon bug repellant/sunscreen. we didnt have any problems. have fun.

Stayed last week of October 2004. Opened balcony doors...Once! About 20 came in. Took the boat over to CR and we were pelted by them...The CR pool was gross at night! We will probably stay somewhere else that time of year. During the day it was ok.

Keep in mind that we had multiple hurricanes last year and there was a great deal of standing water. Perfect breeding grounds for mosquitos. They were really bad. In prior years, I never noticed a problem with them on Disney property. If you go off property, that is a different story. You will find plenty of them around my house!

I would bring the unscented mosquito spray anyway.....just to keep yourself from being bit (means misery :)) and just to keep yourself protected as much as possible from West Nile. I would not want to get sick with that at the end of my vacation.

We use the Avon Buguard and it's worked pretty good. We use it during the more humid times of the year when the mosquitos are pesky. DD and I swell up from their bites especially around our ankles.

Unfortunately we have to deal with them outside of WDW...walking to school in the mornings here in South FL during the more humid months is tricky so I put the Buguard on her ankles then which usually helps keep them away. It is a lotion based product so no messy sprays.

I would never leave my balcony door open at night. The room would be full of all kinds of creepy crawlies if I did. At AKL the maid left the balcony door open when she was in our room. We came back to find a giant dragonfly buzzing around our room.

I've never stayed at WL, but I've been to WDW about twenty times and have gotten bitten maybe once or twice. WDW does a great job of keeping bugs away from guests.

Now the birds are another story...

:)

:sunny: Been there all times of the year, haven't need any bug stuff yet. We were there last Sept. not a problem then either. You could bring some if you think you might need it. Better to have it with you and not use it, than need it and have to buy it there.

I've never ever gotten a mosquito bite at WDW, but we will be staying at the AKL in May so I'm going to take some repellant. I heard someone on here say they have bug repellent wipes at wal-mart in the camping section- I think I might take those vs. a bottle of spray or lotion.

I think it also depends on if you're the type of person bugs like to attack. My DH laughs as me because he can guarantee that if he does not want to get bitten, he just needs to sit next to me. I'll get bit enough for the both of us. So I always make sure I put the bug repellant on, but he doesn't bother and then we're both fine.
