The tent came down on Monday afternoon !!! That morning they were putting in some new drainage pipes. Today they were cleaning up, grading and the surveyors were hard at work on, guess what . . . a croquet court ! Yes, I was snooping and eavesdropping, but it is, after all, our 'home' - so my best guess is that it will be a beautifully landscaped area with a large croquet court as the center feature and who knows what else they will delight us with !! The view from these back villas just improved a hundred fold!! (still wondering what on earth they will do on the boardwalk side of the new villas :confused3 ) ! :smooth:

Thanks for the update, I have not played croquet in years and I absolutely loved playing it!

That's good news really! Where these rooms once SV and now going to be PV?

Opinions vary. I believe these rooms were initially set up to be preferred view and really are preferred view rooms. This area lost its appeal (IMHO) when they built that "temporary" DVC Sales building back there, so for the past couple of years, the resort assigned some points guests to this area who actually booked standard view. I think this mainly happened when standard view was overbooked and/or when there were rehab projects in the "real" standard view rooms - the ones overlooking the hotel entrance and driveway. (CRO cash guests can end up anywhere - there is only one category for them).

Anyway, once the croquet lawn is finished, I believe these rooms will all permanently "return to the preferred category" that they were originally intended to be. After all, the description does include "Garden". And most have a very nice view of the canal and Swan/Dolphin Hotels as well.

My theory. YMMV.

Please can tell me what YMMV means? I am going NUTS trying to figure it out!
Thanks, Mandy ::MinnieMo

What's the real difference between PV and SV? The point values are sure different! I assume PV looks out over the Boardwalk, but what do you see with SV...parking lot on the other side?

YMMV...Your mileage may vary :sunny:

Sorry. YMMV = Your Mileage May Vary. Just a dumb way of saying that your opinion may not be the same as mine and that's perfectly OK with me!

There are two categories of Preferred at the BWV. Each is reserved separately, even though the point costs are the same.

Preferred - Boardwalk view. Rooms overlook the Boardwalk and Crescent Lake.

Preferred - Pool/garden. Rooms may have a view of one of the pools, the Village Green (lawn between the lobby and the lake) or the canal that goes to MGM & the Swan/Dolphin Hotels

Standard view - Rooms overlook the hotel entrance and the driveway that leads up to it. You can also see parking lots in the distance. Some of these rooms have a view of the higher level fireworks from EPCOT. There is nice landscaping between the rooms and the blacktopped areas. IMHO, standard view rooms are a tremendous bargain and that's why they book so quickly!

Thanks for clearing that up

I would never have worked it out alone! I have seen it often on the disboards but never knew what it meant.

Lately they had been assigning rooms over the area where the DVC offices used to be (where the croquet court will be) as standard view. I had the very last room next to Jellyrolls facing the Swan last year as a standard. I think they used to assign them as preferred but probably got complaints. So I guess they will go back to preferred now.

Croquet court was the plan for that area years ago, before the built the DVC building.

Actually, unless things have changed in the last year CRO actually has two categories at the Boardwalk for cash guests. We were in a two bedroom villa before we became DVC members and there was a difference in price levels for standard view or Boardwalk view and it was an option at the time of booking.

Could you be thinking of the Boardwalk Inn? I know there are standard/garden and water views available there. Water views (which include Boardwalk views) are more expensive than the garden/standard views.

AFAIK, cash reservations for the villas (the DVC portion) have not had two categories and there are not two price levels. At the present, the Boardwalk views (for the BWV) are reserved for DVC members using points. They are not available for cash at all - not even to members who book through MS and pay cash (for the 25% DVC member discount).

It did change about 2 years ago. There used to be 2 price levels for BWV cash reservations, standard & preferred. I think they changed it in 2003 to just one. If you go through the CRO online reservation system, the description reads parking lot view. You may get upgraded to a pool view if it's available but there's no guarantees. As Carol said, boardwalk views are only for members staying on points.
