butterfly farm on st. maarten

My BIL and his family did this excursion. They thought it was worthwhile. At least they said it was worthwhile, but it struck me that they were trying rather unconvincingly to let us know they didn't make a mistake.

I guess we're spoiled here in Atlanta, 'cause we have a world-class butterfly center nearby at Callaway Gardens.

I've done the Butterfly Farm and it really isn't as good as it sounds IMHO. The next trip I found jewelry shopping on St. Maarten to be MUCH more exciting!!!! :p

I have done snorkelling on St. John at Trunk Bay. St. John is soooooo beautiful, but you waste a lot of time in the transfer to the island and that leaves less time for snorkelling. We did the Sapphire Beach on St. Thomas and you can rent equipment there if you wish. We had a nice long and relaxing beach day and the lunch was quite good too! :)
Hope that helps.

We went to St. John's to snorkle and the surf was so rough, they closed the snorkling trail. It's a wonderful beautiful place but I sat on the beach most of the time. My husband and son had lots of fun but we were glad we left the younger two on the boat. It does take time (and money) to get there so you have to decide how badly you want to go and if you will be disappointed if you can't snorkle. The Disney excursion had gone else where but nobody bothered to tell us that the trail was closed. (When we got there and found out, some of the people in our 'taxi' decided to go over to the other side of the island instead.)

When I got the BF to go to Canada last year we went to the butterly conservatory...I thought it was going to be really cool-and I guess it was...except I am not the type to like things flying around my head...remember these butterflies are just flying around free...

There was one thing that he did that was really sweet...most butterflies have really ugly wings until they open them so that they blend in with their habitat....there was one that when he opened his wings he was a beautiful blue! I had a bright white shirt on and one of these beautiful blue butterflies landed right on my shoulder with his wings wide open...the BF told me to hold still so he could get the picture...I was ready to freak! That whole bug thing-eww gross! I asked if it was "the pretty blue one" and held still and we got a great picture of this beautiful butterfly on a great white backround!

The rest of the time we were there I spend ducking and weaving these things flying around!
