BTMRR/MS for a Coaster Chicken?

Here we go again with the "scared of coasters" thread, but we'll be down in WDW again next month, and I really want to try BTMRR this time. Last time I walked back out of the whole FP line just like I was 10 years old all over again.

Speed and drops are my big issues.

I LOVE Star Tours. Love it! Can ride it a million times in a row. I rode Goofy's Barnstormer 3 times, although I was TERRIFIED -- seeing the track helps a lot. For some reason, I was convinced that RnR wouldn't be so bad - everything you read says it's okay for the coaster-shy. I had the WORST time on it! My harness should've been one click tighter, so I kept thinking it was going to fly up! So, I kept pulling on it, which ended up giving me bad neck & shoulder pain the rest of our trip! The launch was the absolute worst (for speed chickens like me - I know most people love it), but I really want to try some more rides than what I'm used to. My DH has been an absolute doll about all this, even riding solo to test them for me.

Give me the straight dope about BTMRR and MS for chickens. I'm thinking if I love Star Tours so much, I may love MS....

Thanks in advance!!!

This was the first grownup roller coaster my DS7 and DS5(at the time) would try. DS5 loved it, DS7 warmed up to it, and now loves it. It doesn't have any large drops, doesn't go very fast. It IS very banked and VERY jerky. DH has neck problems, and can only ride it a few times before it starts to bother him. If you press your feet against the front of the car, you won't have the feeling of being tossed around. I would say give it try, it could start you on a whole lifetime of roller coaster riding. I would never tell anyone that RnR was okay for the coaster shy....It is fast, in the dark, and goes upside down...What wouldn't be scary about that.... :confused3

MS, I can't give any input. My boys and DH love it. I can ride any upside down, spinning teacup, going backwards ride there is. But Star Tours is the only simulator that doen't make me nauseous. I can ride it once. I know I would get sick if I rode MS. So I don't. I guess now they have a non spinning version of it, I think I'll skip that one, too.

The thing about rides like BTMRR is you are never more then a foot off the ground .When you look down you are looking at the mountian side or into a gully so it gives you the illusion that your not that high.

Also no real big drops just many turns and up&downs .

You can just pass through the car if you chicken out on this but I wouldn't recomend it as it's a great ride.

Now MS (Mission Space right) is another story only for the very healthy at those speeds it can mess with your equalibium fast and make you sick. It's a great ride but not for everyone.

Look it's best to just try them once you can always just close your eyes( on the coasters NOT MS) and will like them or not but at least try them.

DO NOT close your eyes on MS....I have read this, heard this, and DH has experienced this. You should not close your eyes or event divert them away from the screen, as the actual spinning of the ride will make you even sicker than if you watched the whole thing. DH looked away from his screen momentarily to help DS6 with his buttons, and he said he immediately felt sick. Another reason why I won't ride it. At least on Star Tours, I can close my eyes and not get ill..not so on MS..

Yes you are so right I ment the coasters I edited my OP thanks.

I'm a thrill ride fanatic and I can't stress hard enough that if you're past the age that you can easily ride something like a Tilt-A-Whirl, give very serious consideration to skipping MS. Even if you follow directions and keep your eyes locked on the screen (they're right, do NOT look away or close your eyes!) you're likely going to feel at the very least a little weird after getting off the ride for about half an hour, and more than a slight chance of getting good and sick.

However, it's an INCREDIBLE ride if you're willing to go for it. Just remember, don't ride on an empty stomach or a full stomach (have a light snack like some fruit an hour before), do NOT close your eyes or look away from the screen, and if you're feeling nervous, by all means, the ride's not going anywhere, hit it the next trip.

BTMRR should be just fine for you. The ride is about as rough as Star Tours and I actually think the first drop on BS is bigger than any drop on BTM. if not, they're not far off.

I really dont see what the big deal is about MS. I went on it and took my dd 6 on it. It was her birthday. I was a little nervous waiting cause of all the precaution and the stories about it. Plus I was very sick at the time with a cold and sore throat. We get in and I get dd set with the harness then it starts. I did not feel like I was spinning. When it ended I was little disappointed I went on water slides at BB the day before that was more thrilling some tub racing slide. I will go on it again as I did like the ride. Now I just know that for me it was not as bad as every one is saying. dd 6 love it too.

I am not a coaster fan - used to be. but I think old age has caught up with me. My son is still scared of coasters, so he hasn't been on any big ones. He did not like space mountain.
BTMRR was cool. It feels fast because the turns are banked, but I'm pretty sure it's way slower than RNR - and you can see where you are going. No big drops (those do me in), a little jerky and lots of turns. My DS and I loved it! Went on it about 5 times! It's his favorite ride in MK.
If you like BTMRR, try Test Track. It goes fast at the end (about 65 mph) on a tight bank, but you are completely enclosed except for the wind in your hair, like going fast in a convertible. That was exhilarating.
Like Space Mountain, did not try RNR. Plan to next time tho...feel like I have to be braver! Not even thinking of trying MS tho. Not that brave.

I think it depends mostly on how sensitive you are to motion sickness or spinning. I'm (32) the type of person who can't spin 360 under my own power without feeling woozy :lmao: and I definitely felt the tug of the spin for a second before my eyes kicked in enough to say "no, we're moving UP, not to the side". My husband (35) has no spinning problems and he said he felt a little light headed for about 10 minutes, but as he's in a wheelchair anyway he picked on other riders getting off the ride that at least he didn't have to worry about falling over. My father (54 when he rode) was violently ill for a whole day and they almost took him to the hospital, but even I'll say he's a wimp. :)
