Broken earbuds?

Last fall, I had 3 pairs of earbuds break. They all had the same exact problem - the right earbud wouldn't produce any sound. They all broke around the same time - I would use one pair, then I'd use another once the first pair broke, and then another when the second pair broke. Eventually all 3 pairs stopped playing out of the right ear. At the time, I thought my laptop was the problem since that was really the only thing I used my earbuds on. Then, I realized that the earbuds didn't work with my iPhone either. At that point I wasn't sure if all 3 pairs of earbuds were broken, or if both my laptop and iPhone had the issues that somehow prohibited my earbuds to play out of the right ear.

Fast forward to Christmas. I received a new pair of earbuds. Great! One problem: after a couple of days, the right earbud stopped producing sound :headache:

Fast forward to right now: I'm stumped. Is it my laptop, iPhone, and iPod (just tried that yesterday with the earbuds and still no sound out of the right ear) that are broken, or are the 4 pairs of earbuds broken? Did using my earbuds with my laptop break them? I got both my laptop and iPhone last summer, and I didn't really use earbuds with either of them until I got to college in the fall. The 3 original pairs of earbuds worked just fine until last fall. I had been using 2 of the pairs for over two years before they broke, which is what makes me think that my laptop somehow broke them. Is that even possible? :confused3

Any advice is truly appreciated. I'd rather not have to go out and buy a brand new pair of earbuds just to have them break again :headache:

* Just in case it makes a difference, the original 3 pairs of earbuds were these, these, and these. These are the earbuds I got for Christmas.

I've had a lot of the same problems (and started a thread earlier this week! http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2409372).

One thing I did learn while I was Googling for info was that wrapping the cord around the iPod is not good, as it makes the wires separate. I've just got a new set and have started storing them in an (empty) Altoids tin. We'll see how long they last. Then I might go for something in a higher price range to see if it helps.

Best wishes.

Thanks for the help. I don't wrap my earbuds around my iPhone - they usually just sit on my desk in my room. I just have a hard time understanding why two pairs of headphones that I used for years broke - with the same problem - about a week apart from each other. Earbuds can be such a pain :rotfl:
