We have cruised 3 times previously, but I have never brought on wine. I know we can bring bottles of wine, but can I bring my own corkscrew rather than pay $15 for a wine steward to open it for me?? Any insight is appreciated, we are cruising on the Wonder Jan. 10!!

Thanks!
Ami

We have always brought our own corkscrew but I read that if you ask your cabin steward he/she will bring one.

I know for a fact thew will bring you glasses

You can bring your own corkscrew and open it in your room and pour a glass in your room. Your stateroom host will actually supply a corkscrew and glasses.

You will incur the "corking fee" if you carry any bottle into the dining room which was not purchased on the ship. Thus, you can carry a glass anywhere on the ship, but you cannot bring the bottle with you to the dining room.

So if I were to bring my own bottle of wine, corkscrew, and glasses to dinner would they not let me in the dining room or charge me? If they charge me what exactly would they charge me for??

Side note: If you like a glass of wine with your meal, but don't plan on finishing an entire bottle, you can have the waitstaff re-cork the bottle and save it for the next evening (a lot cheaper than buying by the glass). You can also ask to have a partial bottle moved between locations so you can start a bottle in Palo's and finish it in Parrot Cay, etc. No "corking or re-corking fee" if you purchase the bottle in the restaurant.

If you bring you own bottle of wine to dinner you will be charged the corkage fee (currently $18, I believe). This is simply a fee for bringing your own bottle into the dining room. Corkage fees are common in upscale restaurants.

To get around the fee simply open your bottle in your stateroom and carry just a glass to dinner. Glasses and corkscrews are available from your room host/ess.

Which, BTW is still a heck of a lot cheaper than buying the same bottle off the menu:) i.e. a bottle of Banfi Chianti in Palo's is over $50. vs. ~$20 in a liquor store + $18 "corkage" (about a 25% savings).

Is it common for people to walk into a DCL restaurant with a glass of wine? I would love to do this on my cruise (but not if I am the only one)!

You will not be the only one. I know it is very common and no one is checking where you got your wine. On our Thanksgiving curise last month, some of our tribe put their wine in the large beer mug so they would not run out before the meal was over.:rotfl: Others simply brought their wine in a wine glass.

Other people don't know where your wine came from, maybe it was the lounge or maybe it was from your room. So don't worry about it.

If we bring our own wine and take it to dinner (paying corking fee, of course). If we don't finish the bottle, will they hold it for us for our next dinner seating like they will if you have the "wine package"?
