I got some Keens for my 5 year old daughter for our trip in 32 days! She wore them to a baseball game this weekend and got a couple rub spots. I am going to let those heal and then have her wear them again- hoping her feet get used to them. Luckily, they weren't too bad because if they had gotten bad, she would have refused to wear them again! Has anyone had this experience? How many times did your LO need to wear them before they were good to go?

Haven't had experience with Keens but have you looked into the product called Body Glide? It's purpose is to prevent blisters, once they've happened it's too late. We use it with any type of shoewear that rubs and it works awesome. I think using Body Glide while breaking in the Keens (one the blisters have healed of course) and then again every day at Disney before putting the shoes on should help. We've done an 10-11 day trip at Disney, used Body Glide every morning and none of us got blisters. I had also found similar product in the foot care section of a pharmacy that came in a smaller container (lipstick shape but a bit bigger, easy to carry in purse) and my kids knew that the moment they felt something rub against their feet, to tell me right away we stopped and reapplied.

Bandaid makes a anti-blister stick now. Body Glide also has travel sizes. I use the pocket size body glide ones on race day as they take up less space then a pack of gum. So if you need the smaller sizes check the bandaid aisle or the sporting goods department as well.

Yes, you're right, I've seen the small size of body glide in the past year or so. They weren't sold here in Canada before that thus the other one I bought for our trip 3 years ago. Those anti-chaffe sticks are a great product!

I stock up when I go to the running store because those little ones are so much easier on race day.

Good tip on the body glide. I do have some but for some reason hadn't thought of it for the kids!

Would she wear them with socks? That's another option because the Body glide should be reapplied throughout the day (although a wonderful idea; body glide is a runners/hikers friend!). I found the really tiny ones to be difficult to apply, but anyway it still works and is extremely useful. I'd still be concerned about the Keens though even with body glide; where did you purchase them? Maybe you can exchange them for a different type of Keens that fit her better? Every time I go to get my DD keens I feel the inside and decide that it just feels like they will rub too much and then don't do it. But I'm a flip flop or sneaker type person...

For my kids and even for myself I make sure I have a minimum of 4 to 6 weeks to break in new shoes before a trip. 2 months are even better. Last year I got my kiddo keens and he got sores the first 2 or 3 times he wore them. But by our trip they were wonderful. I bought Chacos 3 to 4 weeks before our trip last year and I just made sure I wore them everyday! I would wake up and wear them around the house even. But it worked...not one blister during our week at Disney. Good luck.... But I do plan to buy body glide this year before our trip just incase!
