Hi folks. Any beantowners about. I'm plannng on flying from Boston to MCO in December (7th-15th). Looking for non stop flights. Flights on Delta can be booked now and are like $325 round trip. I need 5 tickets and I've never flown Southwest and I know I can't book until probably early summer on Southwest. My question is how much can I expect to pay round trip from Providence to MCO for that time frame. Anyone have any experience. My dates are firm.

Just thought I'd give you some of my experiences in the past.

I've flown AA, Delta/Song, Jetblue and last year for the first time, Southwest.

Even when prices were the highest I've every seen (last year), I still have never paid over $225. pp round trip to Florida. I guess I've been lucky!

Last year for our August trip I paid $155.60 each. I bought them the beginning of July. This was a last minute trip.

For our end of October trip last year, I waited patiently hoping for prices that were well over $300 - $400 to come down and they FINALLY did on August 1. I bought our tickets August 1 for $177 each with Jetblue.

In the past, I always bought our tickets right at 330 days out and got the best rate but not so last year. The prices were already high from the start so I waited and waited and it finally paid off at 3 months out.

Good luck!

I do this route (BOS-MCO) frequently on Delta so I keep up with the current prices for them. At that time of year, I'd expect to pay $200-225 per ticket on Delta. Perhaps less if you catch a sale, but don't expect to see one for your travel dates until probably September. I certainly wouldn't book at the $300+ price right now - there is plenty of time.

As far as PVD-MCO goes, I'd expect similar pricing. I usually check those flights as well since I can get to PVD in about the same time that it takes to get to BOS from my location.

Thanks for the info. In 2005, I paid $850 total for 4 tickets on Song (no longer an airline) and now the only non stop from Boston is Delta and its $1625 for 5 tickets. That's like double. Again, thanks for the info.

What about Jetblue? Did you check with them?

I would probably wait for Southwest and meanwhile, continue to check Delta and Jetblue for sales.

Like I said before I waited till August 1 to purchase my end of October tickets with Jetblue. It was tough for me to wait but I wasn't willing to pay $377 a ticket and it worked out in the end.

Good luck!

I would imagine that you would be able to get them for about $200 RT. Even on prime school vacation weeks I have never paid more than that for direct flights from either Boston, Hartford or Providence to MCO.

We just go out of which ever airport has the best deal and times.

Just as an FYI...another poster mentioned nonstops. Airtran does now have one or two nonstop flights a day out of Boston to MCO.

I would also suggest checking www.travelzoo.com each week as well as signing up for Southwest's Ding.

Hope this helps you!

We have also found that it is sometimes cheaper to fly to/from TPA instead of MCO. Since we always rent a car, the extra 45 minutes each way is the only down-side.

We've gone in early December the last 3 years and we typically take a non-stop on Southwest out of Providence for about $115 per person, round trip. Also parking in Providence is much cheaper than Boston. I live 22 miles closer to Logan and I still fly out of Providence every chance I get.

My wife won't even consider Jet Blue, since their new policy seems to be cancelling fights at the first sign of snow. There was a report they stranded people on a plane for hours and hours (I think it was in NYC somewhere). Thanks again for the information.

Despite that 'horror', JetBlue is a terrific airline. Every airline out there has had their own fiasco at some time in the past. It's only when they don't fix the problem and ignore it that I have an issue with them. JB seems to be trying to address the issue. It was not so much an issue of canceling at the first sign of snow, but of having no plane, or personel to man a present plane, that was the issue. And that was due to airport closures elsewhere. Did it get handled the best it could have? No, but we'll see what happens with today's storm. All the airlines seem to be cancellling flights.
I love JB and will choose them first if at all possible. I am still waiting for them to lower their August fares so I can book my flight to WDW then. And then, I'm flying on Dec 7 also, just like you. I'll be watching for JB's fares to come out for that time frame also.
With JB, you can be pretty safe that once they publish a flight, they'll have that flight.....weather not withstanding. Delta changes their schedules on a monthly basis.
SW is a great airline also...have flown with them and they are my second choice of airline from NE to MCO. They are just further away than Logan for me..an hour to TF Green, and 35-40 mins to Logan.

See here's where JetBlue is damned if they do, and damned if they don't.

There was hue and cry (rightfully so) on February 14th when they really blew it. And they did blow it BIG TIME. Their CEO vowed that they would work on it, and things would be better.

Well this storm comes slightly more than a month later (not nearly enough time to invoke any kind of new plan) and now that they are proactively cancelling flights, they're slammed too.

I would still choose JetBlue as my 1st choice from BOS to just about anywhere they flew.

To the OP--I don't think you'll see flights as consistently low as you flew for in 2005, everything has gone up between now and then.

You can also use www.kayak.com, they search just about every airline (no SWA).

Good Luck. I'm budgeting between 250-280 for our flights in February. (President's week)

This is my order too. Jetblue first , especially with kids one because of the tv's and two using DME I can also use RAC and the less bags with the kids the better. Then I would use SWA for the fare's.

I choose to NOT use Delta because of the way they always change their schedule. That drove me nuts. It is also just my opinion but I bet anytime Jetblue is canceling flights out of Boston so is Delta and other airlines.

I fly Jet Blue from Boston to JFK almost every week, every other week usually, and I've never encountered a problem. They dropped the ball in February, but overall they're a great airline and you can be sure they won't make that mistake again.

Another vote for Jet Blue. I flew them on my October trip for the first time & loved them. I will be flying them again for my May trip. Plus if you buy your tickets & they put on a sale afterwards, call them and they will credit your account with the difference. They give you a year to use the credit. (Just make sure that you still have the same seats.)

I'm another person who thinks JetBlue is a fantastic airline. I've flown them at least a dozen times now, and when I've had a few minor issues, they've always come through for me. (one time my flight was delayed due to their computers being down, and they sent me a voucher for $50 without me even complaining about it).

Jetblue doesn't have their flights up for December yet, but I'll be looking for that same flight down as Goofy4Tink. Last year, they put their December flights up in May.

One good thing about Jetblue is that if you book them at a higher rate, if the fare goes down, all's you have to do is give them a call, and they will apply a credit to your JetBlue account which can be used on future travel in the next year.

I'm also looking for flights out of Boston or Providence for Dec 9th, returning on the 16th. Haven't seen any deals yet. Thanks to HeatherC for posting the link to travelzoo.com. I knew about kayak.com but travelzoo.com looks good too! Does anyone know - is it typically more expensive to fly on a Sunday than a Saturday, or not much difference? Also wondering if my flights will be more expensive since the return is closer to Christmas?

We've flown Southwest out of Manchester the past two years during the first two weeks of December. You just can't beat the dings. I think we paid $600 or less RT for 5. Unfortunately, the dings haven't been too terrific lately. But in the past I have gotten $34-49 each way. Best wishes

That would be some freak blizzard to hit Boston in early December. Jet Blue is quite a reliable airline and does indeed fly non-stop between BOS and MCO. They've made physical changes to their jets by widening the space between rows in the front (maybe the first 11 rows?). Much more comfortable! And they don't really cancel flights unless the weather is pretty severe. We left Burlington Vermont a couple of weeks ago on Jet Blue in light snow.

Hi There,

Don't get me wrong, I am considering Jet Blue. It's all about price, but my wife is a little antsy about them. She also only reads the headlines or listens to TV news, which is not the best source of info. They did however, cancel flights a few weeks ago before any snow flew. It was so the planes would be in the right places after the snow.

And by the way, a snowstorm in early Dec in boston would not be a freak storm. Unusual maybe, but not freak. We flew home in early Nov a few years ago from San Diego and there were several inches on the ground here.
