Boston to MCO

I'm also looking for flights Dec 8-15. Would do Boston, but also love flying out of Manchester.

My wife won't even consider Jet Blue, since their new policy seems to be cancelling fights at the first sign of snow.

How would this be a bad thing? Or would you prefer to be stranded at the airport or on a plane waiting to take off for hours due to poor weather conditions?

Hi There,

Don't get me wrong, I am considering Jet Blue. It's all about price, but my wife is a little antsy about them. She also only reads the headlines or listens to TV news, which is not the best source of info. They did however, cancel flights a few weeks ago before any snow flew. It was so the planes would be in the right places after the snow.

And by the way, a snowstorm in early Dec in boston would not be a freak storm. Unusual maybe, but not freak. We flew home in early Nov a few years ago from San Diego and there were several inches on the ground here.

Hi,
I don't disagree at all that you'll see some snow in Boston in November or early December (we see it fairly often up here in Vermont), but it is the rare storm at time of year that will create cancellations rather than just delays. I know that the big challenge at Logan is getting the runways cleared of snow, but they seem to do a pretty good job based on the many winter-time vacations that we've started from there. Last year we had reserved a flight from Vermont to Orlando that was canceled due to equipment problems. With no other Delta flights for that day I asked if they'd get us on a plane out of Boston that afternoon. We drove through a snowstorm from mid-Vermont to Boston and they got us out of there on time in spite of the snow.
FWIW, I think Jet Blue made the right decision to cancel most of those flights due to the weather forecast. Of course they were terribly snakebitten from the bad PR from the poor decision at JFK when they left those passengers on the plane for 11 hours.

AirTran has flights for $249 pp round trip, Boston to Orlando direct. Dates are Dec 9th - Dec 16th. Times are perfect - 9:40am departure on the 9th, 4:30pm departure on the 16th. Do I book or wait?????? So scared to book too early and have my flights changed!

I have flown nonstop from Providence on SW that same time period for the last 4 years and never paid more than $135. I'd stay home before I'd pay $250. In fact over the last few years I've flown to Vegas, Phoenix, Seattle, San Francisco and Los Angeles (I'm sure I'm missing a few) and have never paid more than $225. $250 to Florida seems like a ripoff to me.

I'm looking for a flight from BOS to FLL on 12/7 but I'm going to hold out for a while longer. Right now I can get $200 r/t with AirTran but there's only one non-stop out of their many flights so I don't think I trust that it would stay a non-stop and since we've never paid more than $150 r/t flying with SW from MHT-MCO I'm guessing I "might" be able to get something a little better than $200 if I wait longer.

Another vote for JetBlue, they would actually be my first choice and I'll at least be waiting for their Dec schedule to come out before I book anything (and I may hold out even longer for SW).

Thanks - I had a feeling if I waited I could do better. I really don't want to pay more than $200pp. I also want good flight times though - that's my only fear - a good price but I don't get to MCO until 6:00pm on my first day - yuck! And I want a later flight on my departure day. So I want it all - good flight times, low prices, nonstop flights. :thumbsup2 I guess I would pay a little more to get the flight times I want and a nonstop flight - and that's what made me think should I book AirTran now - but I'm going to wait.

We flew Boston to Orlando last Dec. Our dates were Dec 15-22. I bought our tix at the end of February on Delta for $177 a piece. There were 5 of us so I was happy with that price.

However Delta changed the times at least 8 times throughout the year, maybe more, I lost count. It ended up shifting about an hour but it was just nervewracking to see it change each time and have to call and get my seats again. Also the whole Delta potential strike last spring had me nervous.

That being said I'd like to try Jet Blue as I have heard good things (aside from the Valentines Day issue). We need tix for next March and our window on the airlines that do the 330 days is about to open but I know Jet Blue doesn't do it that way. I just hate waiting. So I don't know what to do.

I would think you could get something in the $200-225 range for Boston to Orlando.

Happy Planning~!

Good idea. You said AirTran has what, one nonstop flight a day? JetBlue has four in each direction right now. If I wanted to get up REALLY early, I could have been on a 6:30 AM flight and likely be at a park by noon. But the 8:45 flight still gets me to Orlando by that time; I just probably won't make it to a park until mid-afternoon. Coming home, I'm on the 7:55 or so flight - meaning even with DME, I can spend several hours in a theme park and still make it back to my hotel in time for the bus!

Yes, right now there is only one non-stop flight on AirTran. I do like the choices on JetBlue right now - hopefully they stay the same for December but go down to at least $99 each way! I'd rather do the 8:45am flight - getting the kids to the airport for the 6:30am would be a nightmare!

I have heard many horror stories about Delta changing flights, so I'm gonna try to stay away from Delta. Although $177 rt would be hard to pass up!

Awww, thank you! It was fun to write! Oh suprise trips are so fun! Stay strong! There will be times you will be soooo tempted, really so tempted, to blurt it out but it is really a fun experience to do a suprise as grand as a trip to Disney!
