My husband and a few friends are going in April for the Star Wars run. They will only be there for a weekend and want to stay at an MK resort hotel since the race is at 5:30am and meets in the MK parking lot.

Should we book at the AKL home resort now and then switch at 7 months if there is availability or wait until 7 months and book what is left. My understanding is waiting would give us an earlier advantage of booking online vs having to call when the lines open to change it? Or am in incorrect with this understanding?

Book your home resort now. You might not find anything else at seven months out. RunDisney events tend to make villas book up. Especially if you want a studio.

You can cancel your reservation if you see something else available at seven months.

The new modifications to the DVC members website allow you to make a booking at 11 months at your home resort, then at seven months at 6 AM Eastern time you can go online and immediately change it right there from your computer from your old reservation to your new reservation at another resort, and do it without losing your old reservation until the new one is complete.

It even lets you shift your points from the old reservation to the new one right online, so you don’t have to call member services to have them shipped the points and make a new reservation, but it does not get rid of your old reservation until you confirm the new one is done.

Awesome news! Thanks

Did they change the time? It use to be 8 am Eastern for on line booking.

Sorry. I am in mountain time. 6 o’clock is my time it is indeed 8:00 AM Eastern time.

The way you do it is you sign into the program, you look at your current reservation, then you choose “modify.”

From modify it will take you to a screen to pick new days and/or a new resort.

You choose and set everything up in the new reservation, just like you normally would if you were starting from scratch, and then when you finalize it it just shifts over to your new reservation using the same points you used before.

In essence the new reservation is just a modification from your old reservation. However it is searched, chosen, and set up just like it was a brand new reservation. But because you started as a modification from your old reservation it also knows to just switch your old points. If your new reservation uses less points, the remainder is returned to your account. If your reservation requires more points it will ask you where you want to take them from.

That is awesome! I'm getting ready to do this and I thought I'd have to use the "two browser" trick that has been floating around these boards for awhile. This will make my life about a million times less stressful by not accidentally borrowing points to change from a home resort to a new resort!

The two browser method no longer works. However, the new modification feature is much better - when the website works.

I would book home now just to make sure you get a ressie then try to re-book at 7 mos
Yes, Always good to have something, then hopefully get a reservation exactly at 7 months:goodvibes! Be prepared to have a few choices at 7 months, getting harder and harder it seems.:(

we are booked for april 11-18th and our 7 month mark is sept 11, coming up soon! I am wondering the easiest way to modify, online or calling MS when it opens? There are a few resorts with full availability as of now, CCV, BRV, and BWV pool/garden... all those are our top 3 choices! BWV std has 5 out of 7 of our nights and I am not sure how the whole waitlist thing goes. We did however book at our home resort at 11 months out and are just as happy to stay there is things get fully booked by next tues!

I always suggest booking your home resort as soon as you can and then alter the reservation to adjust it as needed to a different resort at 7 months. Recently the DVC member web page was updated to allow you to **modify** your home resort booking and change it to a different resort at 7 months based on availability. That feature has had several functionality issues since it was released...it works then it doesn't then it does. So, you might have to actually **cancel** your home resort reservation at 7 months and then re- book the resort you prefer. If you have enough points, you could go in at 7 months and book the resort you really want and then cancel your original reservation....this way you can book at 8 am EST online and you wont run the risk of losing your home resort reservation.

I logged in at 7:55 am and at 8am I submitted the change to Poly. It was verrrrrry easy to do. I would highly recommend doing it online at 8am EST and if you have trouble you can always call in at 9am EST.

I am glad you shared your experience!!! I am hoping to be able to swap tuesday AM ! We are now thinking to do BWV std for the first 4 nights and CCV the last 3 nights, it would be only 120 points! and we would try a split stay which in all our trips we have never done. things to think about here till tues!

This is good to know. I need to book at our home resort now in hopes of changing over in November at 7 months for a June trip. It sounds like the online modification is easy and less time consuming than calling.

But...by my calculations, for our 7 night trip, I would need to buy 8 one time use points to book our final night if we are able to switch. Should I book now for the first 6 nights at my home resort, and then modify those 6 nights online at 8 am, switch them over to our desired resort, and then call later to book the 7th night over the phone with the OTU points I’ll need? Does that make sense?

I’ve done exactly that in the past! So I agree - book home at 11 months so you have a place to stay. Then at 7 months book what you can online (I haven’t had chance to modify online yet, can hardly wait!) and then call to buy OTU points & book the last night.

Thanks! What I’m trying to get for the time of year I want it (June) shouldn’t be terribly difficult, but you never know. And MS can lump that one night into the original reservation so I don’t have two reservations? I usually just book at 7 months and take what I can get, bc I like all of the resorts and like to try different ones each time, so I’ve never done the book and switch before.
