Bombshell Obama Pastor Video

Wow, I just saw another video of the pastor saying HORRIBLE things about America!

Obama always claims he has good judgment. If this is the pastor he picked and is going to for spiritual advice, how can he say he has good judgment?

Hey, they're ALL true so I don't know what the big deal is or why people are shocked.

(that's according to a few other posters, not me)

But let's assume they are true. Obama has had a long intimate relationship with this pastor. He married them. He baptized their babies. He's Barack's spiritual guide. The Obama's have (as of 2006) donated $22,500 to the church. Michele Obama's thesis and recent comments reinforce the pastors comments. I can only come to the conclusion that the Obama's support the beliefs of this pastor to some degree.

You're taking the easy way out and I was and am serious as a heart attack here. I don't see what he said as greatly offensive. But then I was raised as a Southern Baptist. I'm NOT kidding. I want someone to tell me what was so terribly offensive. PLEASE.

Well here are a few things...

First off, "Hillary ain't never been called a ******" makes no sense because she is white, not black. And with the way the word is thrown around these days I didn't realize it was so offensieve. Frankly, I'm sure she's had plenty of rotten stuff said about her.

Second, I don't approve of a PASTOR doing simulated sex on stage even if it is a "joke" about Bill Clinton. It's disgusting and has no place in a Church! Maybe on a late night talk show, but during a service when kids are present? If he acts this way on camera, in front of his "audience," then this is probably how he acts in real life.

Third, Europeans fit the mold? What does that even mean?? Europeans are all rich, white, priveleged and going to have positions of power?? And where does that leave Spanish people...they're European, but not white. And so the sweeping generalizations about races will continue....

Finally, I think his basic message boils down to we shold vote for Obama because he is black. Which is pretty much was Ferraro was getting at. Maybe she and Wright are working together!

Honestly, in how many countries are the poor the politically elite? Most of our politicians are rich because it takes a lot of money to get elected. Just because someone is white and a politician does not mean they were born into wealth or fed from a silver spoon or that they hate black people or are trying to keep them down. Our country is still majority white, 73% or so, so of course white people are going to hold the majority of political seats.

But what do I know, I'm just single white male, so of course I'm on top of the world and will never experience hardship in my life!

This is honestly what I was thinking (not specifically Rove). The videos just miraculously came about today? Seems a little fishy.

Timing is everything!!
Barack Obama was always up front about what church he attended... :confused3 why now.....?? Clintons gettingbacked into a corner ....but thats ok because if the videos did not come out now..they would have in september anyway....

FINALLY! Someone gave me a straight answer. Thanks.

I thought his basic message - to his congregation - was a political one rather than a religious one. I wasn't crazy about it but I wasn't offended by it. I needed a gut check. I understand the "Hillary has never..." remark differently than you but I didn't like it much either.

No...but you are voting for someone who obviously doesn't have issues with what this Pastor preaches - he's been with this pastor for 20 years. To me that speaks at a volume just as loud as the preachers hate filled voice.

a) Obama has already said those views don't represent his in early 2007 (and any sane person can tell you that)
b) he is no longer the pastor of Obama's church

Religion has NO place in the government and in politics. Obama has already distanced himself from those views, they don't represent his beliefs, and in no way should Obama be held accountable for what his old pastor has said when they clearly aren't indicative of Obama's viewpoint. Instead of focusing on the war in Iraq, getting us out of the recession, making healthcare affordable, and making education affordable, we are instead bringing up divisive videos that should have no place in the campaign and which do not represent a candidate's views. If Obama was Catholic, do you think we'd be having a problem if his Priest was involved in a child abuse scandal? In that regard, should parishioners of a church whose Priest has been involved in a scandal, be held accountable for their Priest's actions? Of course not. The Priest should be individually held accountable for his actions as should this Pastor be accountable for his words.

If you want to have an intelligent discussion on the issues, I'm game, but bringing up this video and somehow suggesting Obama shares these views is ridiculous.

When did he denounce him? I'm not being snitty, I just heard earlier that he was Obamas pastor for the last 20 years.

I agree with you 100%. The man is a racist pig, and Obama was a member of his church since the 1980's. This pastor traveled to Libya to meet with Gaddafi - with Louis Farrakhan.

If he doesnt share his views, Tim - then why has he attended his church since the 1980's? This man *recently* is no longer a pastor. Recently - as in, since Obama thought he might have a chance at the Presidency.

Again - Im passionate about this, because quite frankly - I heard about THIS Church and Louis Farrakhan from living in Chicago waaaaay more then I ever heard about Obama - until he ran for president. It is ABSURD to say he DOESNT share his views when he considers him his 'spiritual advisor' - as well as being a member of his church for over 20 years. Im sorry - absurd.

He hasn't denounced it (in those words as far as I know - still trying to look) but I remember either someone asking him or one of his staffers if he shares those views and he said no, when his Pastor came up in discussions early on in the campaign.

Wow, I know people want to defend Obama as their candidate of choice, but I'm surprised at some of the people posting in defense of this minister and trying to downplay it or pointing fingers at others as a diversionary tactic. Seriously guys, if you can't take a really unbiased look at this unique situation and see the potential this has to wreak havoc on Obama, then you're just not seeing the big picture.

There are plenty of folks who haven't really studied up on the candidates yet, and are waiting for the infighting between Obama and Hillary to get wrapped up before they give it serious attention. This is not going to get swept under the rug, and I see this having a huge impact on how people form their opinions when it gets pointed out that Obama supported this minister by remaining a member of his congregation and calling upon him all these years as a spiritual adviser.

He has presented himself as a person who has a desire to reach out and unite people of all persuasions. Yet this situation has serious potential to paint him as a very disingenous person. A man who chooses one face in his private religious life, and then presents the opposite in his public political life. I can't know for sure how much of his minister's preaching that Obama supports. Plenty of doubt will be in people's minds though.

You can spend time saying it's an attack machine at work, or people are hypocrites, or any other approach to lessen the impact. It's not going to change the facts. Not only is the Democratic party in jeopardy of being ripped apart, but I worry for race relations within our country. I haven't been exposed to this sort of preaching and I really didn't consider myself a person living in a bubble, but some here are backing up this hatred with examples of what people endured in the past. So much for progress and moving forward. I see individuals and their families now in peril of developing reciprocal animosity, and it is frightening to consider how far it might spread throughout the nation.

Well, my heart goes out to the hundreds of boys that were abused by priests. I certainly hope there aren't any more church attenders in THAT faith....After all, anyone who continues to attend are showing their approval and support. :rolleyes1

Do you honestly think Obama shares his pastor's views that America is responsible for 9/11?

Well, he has been a member of that church for 20 years, his wife's thesis from Princeton certainly wasn't...uh..."nice". Yeah, I think he probably agrees to a certain degree if not fully. That is why he WILL lose, if he is the democratic choice.

Well I don't think there's really much debating then and have to chalk it up to a difference of views and move on.

I think this has the potential to blow up in Obama's face if he doesn't address this immediately (even though he has in the past - the media is looking for the next Ferraro story) but I don't believe *for a second* he shares his pastor's views, especially on the fact that America is responsible for 9/11. And frankly, those who think he does believe that, wouldn't have voted for Obama in the first place (same as those who think he's a terrorist working with Bin Laden to take over the country). I think the Pastor is a nutjob and incredibly racist and offensive but I don't hold Obama accountable for his Pastor's views, even if I am troubled by the fact he referred to him as his "spiritual advisor."

Oh and I think the Democrats have just about handed the Presidency to McCain and if this continues to the convention, you can bet Cindi can start picking out drapes for the WH.

(I think you can take that as an honest opinion from a supporter SwedishMeatball :))

Have you read his book, Tim? He in no way denounces Reverend Wright. Quite the opposite.

which book are you refering to? Dreams from my father....or Audacity of hope?

He does need to clarify, pronto. I don't believe he agrees with the leader. Like many folks who are part of organized religion, he needs to firmly explain where he parts ways with the obviously bizarre comments (or behavior) of the leader. Think Ted Haggard....Jimmy Swaggart...Jim Baker...and so on......

Do you honestly think Obama shares his pastor's views that America is responsible for 9/11?

I dont know. I would hope not - but how could you continually go to a church with a pastor you dont agree with, week after week, for 20+ years - get married there and have your children baptised there? I mean, really.... :confused3

Well, he has been a member of that church for 20 years, his wife's thesis from Princeton certainly wasn't...uh..."nice". Yeah, I think he probably agrees to a certain degree if not fully. .

Agreed. Again - a member for over 20 years, married at, had kids baptised at.

GImme a break - would you? Yeah - like anyone would say thats okay. THAT is not okay and NEITHER is this.

I'd be horrified to find out a right wing candidate was consulting a pedophile as their spiritual advisor, just as you should be for your left wing candidate consulting a racist, who dislikes America.

Have you read his book, Tim? He in no way denounces Reverend Wright. Quite the opposite.

Correct.
