I was browsing for photos of the Delta Boeing 767-424/ER, since I've never traveled on that type of plane before, and I saw that Continental's 767-424 ERs have headrest TVs just like Song and Jetblue! And Delta doesn't. Not fair!

Did anyone ever get on a 2aisle3aisle2 Delta plane and have the headrests. Maybe I'll get lucky??

The Contentinental 767s are actually very new aircraft. Delta currently has no plans to introduce personal video on their current 767s.

Incidently, Delta doesn't have 767-424s. They have 767-432s.

Wow thats definately a way to get technical about the aircraft. I don't even hear FF's call the 767-400/er that way. The only a/c that Delta has with the monitors in the seatbacks are the 777's type.

A bit of misinformation here. The Continental planes are used on overseas service for the most part. You may get one on a flight connecting through the Newark hub and on to an overseas destination. Delta has individual video in all overseas Business Elite class service on 767-300ER's and 777-200 planes. Delta is currently redo-ing planes with this service with new seat covers and padding (no changes to seat size and hard points of the seats) and new digital entertainment systems for BE (individual choice) and coach (fixed choice like old Song planes and can buy movies) and once the existing fleet is done over will re-do the 767-400ER's followed by the 767-400 and 767-300 planes. The non-Song 757's will receive re-do's sometime in the mix, but they have not publicly announced that schedule nor have they scheduled any Song planes for their first class changeover. The last few 767-200's will be gone by the end of the summer (not last December as originally announced). By 2008, Delta mainline will fly only five main plane types - MD88/90, 737-800, 757-200, 767-300/300ER/400/400ER, and 777-200. Not in the public purvey yet through press releases, but hidden in legal filings and pilot contracts is a future purchase strategy that slots new 100-120 seat jets (Embraier or similar) and 787 Dreamliner domestic and long range type planes into the mix.

No matter how you look at it, Delta and most other carriers are putting lots of technology into the planes as they buy or refurbish them as a driver of higher fares. Long haul planes will get systems first, but it won't take long for smaller planes to follow suit. The new Embraier 170/190 planes have systems in AC and JB trim right now.

That's why I said, "incidently." I rarely see folks refer to aircraft by their airline-specific model numbers, so the gaff caught my eye.

once the existing fleet is done over will re-do the 767-400ER's followed by the 767-400 and 767-300 planes.
When was that announced? I've seen no mention of that. Any idea when they'll start on the 767s?

They are actually doing it now because a large portion of 767-400's are being used in place of the 300/ER during the re-fit. That sucks because they are only offering coach across the pond in certain routes however elites and full fare tickets have the opportunity to utilize the domestic first class seats onboard.

Of course BE has their own personal video, that's why it's business elite and coach does not have it currently like the OP was asking. They were asking about coach. And by the way Delta only has the ER Version of the 400 Series. They have the regular ER and the Transatlantic ER Version that is totally coach right now however the elites can use the domestic first class seats still aboard.

How is their misinformation???

How is their misinformation???
I think BigTigger was referring to my statement that Delta had no plans to put personal video into the economy seats on the 767s. Evidently, BigTigger's information is that not only are there such plans, but he says that they're already being installed.

As I indicated earlier, that was news to me too.

Gotcha, yeah they are installing it now as I have some friends who work for Delta feeding me that info. Delta's planes will rock when they are done.

Delta 340
Boeing 767-400ER This is my plane. I don't know where I got 424 from. :confused3

The 424 definitely came from the Continental info you read. The way Boeing configures model numbers, those last two digits indicate the specific airline that the aircraft is being built for. In many cases, there is little difference between aircraft for different airlines, so a 767-424ER may be practically identical to a 767-432ER (which is why Rex referred to the distinction as "technical" earlier).

Sorry for the bad choice of wording. I was referring to Continental on the misinformation part as very few of their planes have the in seat video for coach and while they may use one here and there in long haul or feeder flights, I've mostly seen them used on overseas routes.

As far as Delta goes, you do need a scorecard these days to keep track of what they are doing with planes. I flew on one of the BizElite refurbished planes to Europe a few weeks back. It had the new seats, but only limited usage of the IFE as it wasn't certified yet (I'm assuming by the FAA). The new seats are a bit more comfortable as the padding isn't worn out like the older BE seats and the width is a bit better on the 767 due to how the center console between the seats is setup. My company is a large creditor of Delta in bankruptcy so we have to review all filings for legal and accounting purposes so we can file back or disclose accordingly. In the December to February stretch, Delta focused on their fleet and asked for the court to approve many changes to leasing arrangements for current planes and to prospectively approve long-term financing plans through 2012 that included new planes to replace/complement the existing mainline Delta fleet. A lot of what was written has taken place, but quite a bit was stillborn. Delta had asked to reduce to four plane types, but only got down to five (the 737-800 leases weren't cancelled). The Song into Delta announcement included putting first back into the Song planes, but this job is still unscheduled due to Delta's backlog on refurbishing the overseas and long haul domestic fleets. If you fly into Atlanta, you can see lots of Delta metal in the workshop hanger area that is being re-painted and refurbed. I assume that some of the work is subbed out as well and happens offsite so my guess is that Delta has between five and ten planes being refurbed at any point in time these days.

Are you sure, BigTigger? AFAIK, the Continental 767-400s all have seat-back video in coach. They may all be used for international flights, but I believe they all have the seat-back video.

AMEX or GE?? Thanks for the info as I have been an Elite with Delta for many years and continually love the improvements on the a/c. I love their BE to Tokyo.

All I can speak from is personal experience flying Delta from here to Atlanta and flying Continental from here to Houston.

Delta 767's out of here don't have the personal video screen in the seatbacks, but Continental does. One reason I try to fly Continental if the fares are approximately the same out of here. I do fly to ATL a lot, generally do prefer the direct flights from here that Delta offeres. Their service from here is excellent, and so is Continental's service. Think the flight crews on the long flights are generally the more experienced ones. Seems that way to me most of the time.

I'm glad to hear Delta will be upgrading the 767's in the future. Hopefully in time for me to use all my award miles I've built up with them. :)
