Black Friday - Who Doesn't Care?

I am already done with my shopping, so I have no need or desire to go shopping on BF. :cloud9:

I will order some stuff online from Amazon and Best Buy but won't get up early to go shopping. I hate cold weather and crowds so standing in long lines outside to get into the store or dealing with huge crowds is not something I am interested in.

I also don't care about Black Friday that much because I shop all year for deals and many times you can get better deals shopping the rest of the year. With toys, when Target goes to 75% off for example in January and July (or sometime in the summer), the prices are way better than almost anything you will find on Black Friday

Yep, same here, but I did procrastinate a little this year. But I did start early. I officially finished tonight.

I HATE to shop, hate crowds, hate traffic at the Mall. Needless to say, I will be tucked in bed, snoozing away, while BF fans are outside in the dark, freezing their butts off! I'll shop online, thanks. No standing in lines, no pawing over stuff to find a size, etc. Yes, I will have to do some shopping, but NOT at the crack of butt on BF. HOWEVER... I have been known to go shopping with my SILs around 4pm on the day after Tgiving; the stores are EMPTY... wonder why??

Friday is a regular workday for me, so I plan to sleep at night :thumbsup2

I did a BF once, and once was enough. It was 9 years ago and I stood out to get a tv for dh's birthday. I was pregnant and not feeling well and people were pushy. I had to go back later that afternoon and they still had them :rolleyes1 so I had wasted my time.

I have not done bf again. I'm not going out tonight when some places open. I can live ONE day without going to a store :confused3

Plus, I don't have anyone to go with and I'm definately not going alone.

Instead, if there is a huge deal on something I need, I'll sometimes send my list to my mom who goes with a group of people she works with and ask if they see one to grab it for me.

This is my problem, nobody to go with :sad1:

Will your mom not let you join her group? Can I? :lmao:

Black Friday reminds me of Christmas morning. The anticipation, dreams and promise leading up to the day are more exciting than the actual event. I did BFs when my DD was young, but really, I never found that "great deal" that would keep me going back year after year. I finally added up the aggressive crowds, lack of shopping carts, the line for filthy bathrooms, the long check-out lines, no tables at the food court, people in cars following you in the parking lot so they could get your spot when you left. It was all too much. We found better things to do on that day off work/school.

I love it but I steer clear of the really crazy places like Walmart/Target/Cest Buy/TRU and anywhere that opens on Thanksgiving. We just enjoy the day and the unusual sales at smaller shops, and a rare day of shopping - BF is the only day all year that I actually go to a mall. It has become almost an extension of our Thanksgiving traditions - today we have dinner and the men watch the Lions game, tomorrow the women will hit the sales.

NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!! Other than food an a few cleaning products that are almost always bought on sale with coupons everything is bought at 2nd hand stores. All of the family lives at least 900 miles away an we have never bought for anyone other than our kids an gkids. We will not be going home for Christmas.

Grown DD's gets AAA extended service for the year an gsons 4 an 5 we will send money an DD can buy what they want.

Down here in FL I do have 3 or 4 friends to buy for 2 of which are already taken care of an the other 2 I'm covering hangers for covering them for those garments that always slides off the hangers.

I like to do a MODIFIED Black Friday..hit up Penneys (free Disney snowglobe) get a few things, then go to a couple more stores in our teeny mall (Hallmark, Burke's Outlet, Kmart..who always irritates me because things aren't organized at it seems the thing I am looking for is always the one no one knows anything about) then maybe WalGreens and LATER after some dust settles, I'll hit WalMart..I do most of my shopping online and am pretty much done.

People are camping in tents outside stores here already. I'm just mind boggled at it. I guess I can see certain situations where you actually need something like say an appliance or a coat or work clothes or what have you and they're selling cheap and going for that. Otherwise the whole thing seems, to me (and no offense if you don't agree), to be a sad testament to how commercial the holidays have become. I mean sure I like nice toys occasionally and I need clothes the same as anyone, but everyone I know has a long list of stuff they "have to" have and I don't get it. My co-worker went on at length last week about how much she "needed" and "had to have" some TV that is on sale on BF. And how she just "has to have" this big long list of toys and electronics for her kids, otherwise Christmas will be ruined. I just don't get it and I don't think I ever will.

kerplop, i absolutely agree with you. This day is supposed to be a day to remember to grateful for the abundant blessings in our lives and to spend time with our families. I am so sick of the commecialism and crass 'gimme, gimme, gimme' attitude of the modern world.

I'm Canadian but I live very very close to a border and have been tempted a few years to check it all out.
In the end I always talk myself out of it.
I noticed over the last few years, and I have no idea why, that even regular Christmas shopping in the mall is too much for me. The lights/people/lines/music/colors/chaos literally puts me in place where I can't concentrate or think straight. I get irritable and disorganzed. Black Friday would magnify that whole problem by 100.
My poor brain can't handle all the chaos. Kudos and best of luck to those who enjoy it! It's just not for me.

It seems that the worse the economy - the more important Black Friday shopping becomes to some people...and to retailers. There is nothing I need that has to be purchased on Black Friday. I don't even like going near stores on weekends between Thanksgiving and Christmas. I'll shop weekdays during the day if I have to go to a store.

**Good grief - as I was putting away the Black Friday ads, I noticed that Meijers is having a big sale TODAY (Thanksgiving) from 6 a.m. until midnight! I feel sorry for their employees!

BF Shopping oh my!

While my mom was still alive she LOVED LOVED LOVED to go BF shopping. We would get up early eat breakfast out, go to some stores, eat lunch out, more stores, the eat supper out...hey wait maybe it wasn't the shopping she liked but eating out. HAHA :lmao:

Well, anyway for me I am not a crowd shopper, and I have never really wanted the things that were really on what I call a "SALE". When my children were little, they are 29 and 23 now if it was one of the "popular toys" that they really wanted my MIL and FIL always shopped on BF early and all day long, so I would give them my list and they would pick it up for me. :thumbsup2 One BF my DD and my niece left for the BF sales at the Outlet Mall in Williamsburg, VA...we live in Chesapeake, VA and I will NEVER NEVER NEVER do that again. it was a nightmare...we had to park several miles away and were bused to the Outlet Mall and it was so crowded you couldn't even walk. Did I say NIGHTMARE!!! :scared1:

I do however like to go out and just look at ALL the people with their baskets piled high with merchandise and wonder to myself "do they really know what they have put in those baskets?" :confused3 Then maybe get something to eat or grab a latte. :) We do have a huge Craft Show here on the weekend after Thanksgiving that I like to go to but it has gotten so expensive just to get in...7.00 a person. :sad2:

Well, to all you BF shoppers I do hope you find the items that you are looking for especially if it is for you children's Christmas and bless you :worship: and for those of you who shop on-line :surfweb: myself included or what till the week after BF, me again...Happy Thanksgiving to you all and GREAT SHOPPING. :goodvibes

There are a few things I would like to get at Walmart, but unless they are online I won't get them.

One thing I really wanted was the camera, but I found a bundle online at Walmart with a similar camera that got great reviews for only $10 more. I am so high strung, really wanting an item and wondering if I will get it drives me crazy. To get this bundle in a cool color makes me so happy!
:cool1:

I have the Hangover II DVD to get for DS's birthday next month. And if I get the 3 things I want from Walmart.com that would finish up my shopping.

This is the first year I am almost totally done shopping. My goal was to be done by the end of the month, and I am pretty sure I will be!

I made my list, I checked it twice, I highlighted when I purchased, and I am on a roll!!

I go but I'm not a hardcore shopper... I get maybe 2 or 3 things at each store and that's it... they're usually under $3 each as well... nothing big named so no fighting here :)

I look at the planning as if it's the same if I were going to Disney... lol... planning is the fun part!

I completely agree with you. I was just looking at the paper & was saddened by how many stores are open today. Old Navy is open all day......closing at 8 p.m. & reopening later tonight. There were some others doing the same.

So sad. :guilty:

Couldn't agree more. Maybe it's because my family is fortunate and doesn't want for material things, but I look at it as greed all the way around........starting with the retailers.
