Great pictures! Thought the captain looks kind of bored...

I would get bored to if I had to stand there for who knows how long having my picture taken.;) Actually the first picture he was smiling but the flash was prevented from opening by a finger, so it is dark.

Hi Sue and other interested folks,

I have a story about Gastric Bypass and its a personal story. My intention in sharing is not to disparage gastric bypass as this surgery has been a miracle for many people, but to offer the seldom heard otherside of the surgery.

Thank you for sharing this story. The surgery is something I'd been considering but after having read this I'm sure there's gotta be a better way. Thank you so much for sharing.

Also... woo hooo! I was actually able to read all the posts since my last. Don't know how often that will happen :-)

Vija - great job about going for a walk! Great decision. And congrats on getting that board broke. Master's right... remember, when water does it's erosion thing all at once it's called a disaster. But when it takes it a little bit at a time it's called building a landscape. A day's worth of calories in well buttered popcorn, huh? Hmmmmm..... can't decide if I should fast to be able to do it or just not do it. But that's okay... I go to the movies like once or twice a year. They're just too expensive. So while it's definitely a temptation, it's not one that's at all sometehing I have to deal with often.

ReAnSt - not only great pics, but a glimpse of that beautiful ship! Thanks for sharing!!

It is so hard to get through all the posts.... I DVR'd BL and hopefully will get to watch it tonight... I always tear up in the begining, the stories and such, but over the weeks watching the families become stronger, healthier with more self esteem.
My low carb eating plan (Atkins) is going well, I slept like a baby last night, no munchies after dinner. I'll start posting my Menus...

BF- Stoneyfarms Full Fat whole milk Yogurt with Sugar Free Davinchis carmel syrup (1 Cup)
Lunch- BK Double Whopper, no bun, 1 slice of cheese, lettuce tom, pickle, mayo and low sugar ketchup/ Side salad with full fat ranch. (I can never finish this)
Dinner- Steamed brocolli in real butter, 5oz grilled steak with mushrooms, onions, and melted butter.

I drop weight really good when i up my fats like that, plus it keeps me full and very satisfied. Hoping to drop another lb tonight! :)

Quick check-in!

My scale is down - YEAH! Even though I got a late start in getting on track this week, I think it's going to be a really successful week.

Keep up the great work everyone, BLUE TEAM rocks!

Good morning everyone. Wow what inspiring stories you all have. My DH did get me the pedometer, now I have to figure out how to set it.

One of my DH coworkers is good friends with the Orange team on the BL. His coworker was going to a party last night to celebrate the BL show with them. I told my DH to ask his coworker today how they looked now. If I find out anything, I'll share.

Have a good day, you are doing so good.

MelanieC - Me too! I had to step on the scale a few times to make sure it was regerstering right!!! I'm going to be so mad if it's wrong and needs batteries!!! :lmao: Great motivation to keep going though!

Do you still have a plan lined out for you to reach that goal of the 1/2 marathon?

First of all, I have really enjoyed reading these posts. I wish I could respond to all of them.

Congratulations Vija! You inspire me to the max - I love it that you never quit, and I cannot imagine doing martial arts. I think that you are very brave and inspirational.

I do have a training plan, but illness has put me behind. I was quite week when I started (only started eating again last Wednesday - since August 30th) - it was hard to even walk a mile this morning.

The plan is slow and steady wins the race - I have to keep doing it, and doing it until I get back to where I was before and beyond.

It is really an endurance trek - I have 7 hours to finish the half in Florida and pretty much unlimited time on the 10k.

Endurance will be built up daily, and I am starting to blog the journey.

Hope everyone has a great day/week.

Linda

Well my feet are killing me today I have been walking around the shops since 9am and it is now 5pm. I have not eaten well but I will be starting on Sunday for real.
I am happy to share my daily menus from them if no one minds?q

It's lunchtime and it's day two of being totally on track (even had tiramisu for lunch yesterday, but it worked into my calories).

It feels so much better to be in control. WHEW!

The show was good last night. One thing I seemed to notice was that EVERYONE was getting along so well. Maybe because there wasn't the traditional blue red or black teams? There are a lot of people I want to do good on the show. I didn't want to see any of them go home. I think the next few that go home are really going to suffer because the ones that are left really seem to need the motivation and help from being at the campus.

The dad from the yellow team really needs to stay and get healthy. The grey team, orange and brown also - REALLY need to be there. The red team needs this me time to improve their health as I am sure they haven't had much me time. And with hubby being away for the past few months, I know what not having me time can do for your health. I gained about 10-13 pounds in the past two months from not having any me time to focus on watching what I ate or exercising. Basically I'm down to no exercise and was eating whatever I could get in my stomach the quickest (unfortunately it was a lot of fast food and restaurants, even though I know they aren't good for us). Thank goodness for this challenge and DH coming home this weekend.

Just wanted to report in, so far I have walked the track at our local high school with some new moms I just meet. Background note: I just moved to my present home the 1st of August. We are meeting there each morning after we drop our kids off.

Today I was early and was able to walk a 1/2 mile and then run a 1/2 mile before they showed up. We then walked 2 1/4 miles together.

I've also been drinking the water, which of course makes me get up in the middle of the night to visit the bathroom :(

But I know it's all worth it!

Friday will be here before we know it, wishing everyone luck with the scale! :)

:woohoo: Guess what I found on Comcast On Demand this morning? Workout videos! So I did a 20 min workout this morning and had jello legs when I got to work. But I felt sooooooo good about myself.

 So then for lunch we go to this barbeque place that I like. I should have had the salad but I decided to have the pulled pork with some garlic mashed taters. Of course, the were out of the potatos so I ended up getting fries. Ugh! Oh well..... back on track right now.

And I still worked out so that's got to be worth something.

I'm still feeling out of it today. I taught my students, but I'm skipping my grad classes so I can lay down. I did remember to bring my lunch today! My breakfast was good- I stayed within my carbs and my points. At the beginning of the year I put a box of Quaker's Weight Control Oatmeal and a box of Kellogg's Pops (I know, not the healthiest, but they were individually packaged) so that if I didn't leave myself enough time to eat breakfast I would have something. I was pleasantly surprised that Kellogg's Pops are only one serving of carbs. So between that and milk I was golden.

I'm hoping I'll feel better after my nap so I can clean and do laundry.

Hi All! So glad to hear everyone's triumphs, struggles, whatever. It makes this trek toward health so much easier, knowing others are doing the same thing. Also, don't know what its like where you live, but here (as in my town) are trying to get healthy also. I think its because September really feels like the New Year to all of us moms! Anyway, my eating has been on track the last couple of days, as has exercising. Looking forward to my weigh in. I'd never seen a BL first episode before, I really enjoyed last night's show. Was anyone else completely blown away by the doctor's simulations of the fat covered lungs? :scared1: I was eating a 100 cal pack of cookies and set it down, never to finish. I DO NOT want my lungs looking like that! Ick! I should see if I can get a print out of that to put on my fridge.:rotfl2:

Hypermommy- Yea for the workout video! What a great way to try out new exercises and not get bored.

Princess Vija- Wow! You're my hero w/your board breaking. You rock girl!

Eeyore's Butterfly- feel better soon:flower3:

Hi Everybody:

I watched BL last night for the first time ever! I thought it was pretty interesting, but I didn't like how the female trainer browbeat the contestants. Just not my cup of tea, I guess. Next week I plan to tape it so I can FF through those parts. I liked and cared about all the teams and hope to see all of them do well.

I weighed in last night at my Weight Loss Support Group and lost 1 pound (That makes a total of 71.) Yea for me :cool1: I have been using my new pedometer since last Saturday and have only hit 10,000 steps one day so far. To hit 10,000 steps each day is my goal for this week.

I am Diabetic and do better when I eat a high protein - low carb diet. I don't eat potatoes, rice, crackers, or pasta of ANY kind EVER. It just sends my blood glucose levels sky high and I don't lose any weight.

If any one has any recipes or ideas for me, I am all ears.

One thing I have learned at my weight loss group is to recognize "All or nothing thinking" and put a stop to it. If you make a poor food choice its easy to say, "Well, I have blown it for today. I might as well eat whatever I want and start over tomorrow." This thinking is really self-defeating. The time to stop is NOW, not tomorrow.

Enough for today! Everybody have a great afternoon/evening and I will check it tomorrow.

Donna

Just got caught up on reading the posts but I don't have time to comment on them...it sure helps to read how everyone has ups and downs as well.

Getting water in and portion control still going well so I'm happy with those things.

DVRd BL last night but haven't had a chance to watch...hopefully tonight we can sit down and get it in. I did watch a little bit of the 1st hour on line so that will speed it up.

Keep up the great work everyone!!!

Peeking in... ready to head home... make dinner and read some more on Disney Cruises... Need to watch my DVR's Biggest Loser....

Getting over 100oz of water in and getting my walking in... Eating good too...

La la la (fingers in ear - I mean hands over eyes)- Haven't seen it - pretending I didn't see any of this, lol!

That's why I was VERY careful of what I said!;) I promise I will be careful!

Okay, it's been not a good OP day. Tomorow is going to be better day.

YES IT IS! I hope you are feelilng better and that all of your days get better and better.

Hi Eeyores Butterfly. I had my last physical Dec 2007 and the doctor was concerned because my blood glucose levels were in prediabetic range. The doctor wanted me to follow a sensible diet for 1 week and then come back in to be rechecked. Well, I'm embarrassed to tell you that I have not been back. My plans were to lose a lot of weight and then go back and hope all my numbers were better. I'm just afraid she's going to tell me I'm diabetic. I did buy a glucose meter at cvs last week so I could start monitoring my own levels. So I'm not the best support person until I get my act together!

I second the fact that you need to get rechecked. The damage that could be done is not repairable. Please take care of you. That is one thing that they often say about peole who are overweight, because of embarassment, we don't take care of ourselves, and why not? You DESERVE the same kind of great health care! YOU DESERVE IT!

I LOVE your metaphor regarding erosion/disaster compared to building a landscape. That is so true, and a beautiful metaphor (Is that right ~ a Metaphor?) I am going to the grand canyon next year, and what a neat thing to think about as I loose weight with that vacation in mind.

As far as the popcorn goes, what I decided was to decrease the amount of popcorn to a small popcorn, but still allow the butter. That may be an idea...

Quick check-in!

My scale is down - YEAH! Even though I got a late start in getting on track this week, I think it's going to be a really successful week.

Great job with the scale working its way down!:thumbsup2

One of my DH coworkers is good friends with the Orange team on the BL. His coworker was going to a party last night to celebrate the BL show with them. I told my DH to ask his coworker today how they looked now. If I find out anything, I'll share.

OH, please do! I would love to hear any details!

Linda, I am so proud of you, thanks for the kind words in my direction and I want to send them your way. You have been an inspiration to me, more than you know. You will get it done, I know it! Take your time and build up the endurance.

Post your menus! It may help inspire someone else!

Congrats on feeling great! And I totally agree that the dad from the yellow team needs to stay. You'll bring back around your eating habits, you are already on your way!:cool1:

Today I was early and was able to walk a 1/2 mile and then run a 1/2 mile before they showed up. We then walked 2 1/4 miles together.

That is great! What a wonderful way to get exercise in, and you are doing extra! Super!:woohoo:

It IS worth something! Small baby steps! You did the video and you are making improvements. WAY TO GO! Just pick yourself back up, dust yourself off, and start all over again!

I'd never seen a BL first episode before, I really enjoyed last night's show. Was anyone else completely blown away by the doctor's simulations of the fat covered lungs?
Princess Vija- Wow! You're my hero w/your board breaking. You rock girl!

Oh, I know, the simulation SCARED ME! I am certain that my insides look like that too. I think getting healthy is a gift I need to give to my body. And thanks for the kind words about board breaking! It is fun, and I love to do it.

Jillian can be kind of tough to take. But she does mean well. Last season they made her more "likeable", and I think she wants that "tough" girl image back. way to go on losing that 1 more pound! That is awesome.

The info about "all or nothing" is food for thought ~ No pun intended!:rotfl: ~ I have done that way to many times and it has led me to where I am. NO MORE!

Checking in...

I am doing pretty good, but not as good as I would like too. Stress eating.... How to stop? :headache:

I am getting called into work again tonight, so after dinner I hope to get in a quick walk. But otherwise not much else to report.
