If you shop at BJ's what do you think are the best deals there?
My ongoing list for BJ's is something like this

I am paying more attention to the sale flyers for the grocery store lately and sometimes they beat Bj's

I like BJs for baby formula and baby wipes. I also tend to get fairly good deals on baking stuff. I usually can get good deals on cat food too.

I've found that a lot of their canned foods are more expensive than the grocery store up the road.

DH likes their meat but with only 2 of us the packages are just too large even with a freezer.
Birthday cakes from the bakery! Not the custom ones. Just the sheet cakes in the case.

Everytime I shop there, I've got the calculator out & dividing. Most times I can do better at the grocery store when the item is on sale or if I use a coupon.

I am paying more attention to the sale flyers for the grocery store lately and sometimes they beat Bj's

I use quite a few coupons so the 50 cents or less are doubled at pretty much all of our local grocery stores (except Food Lion). So I have found that most things are better buys by buying in smaller packages when I have several of the same coupon. I shop for the 'loss leaders' at several groc stores as we have more than 9 chains in less than 5 miles from my house. I'll go from store to store w/ my coupons and stock up. But this was about BJ's and I do have a membership there.
At our local BJ's paper towels, TP, and plastic bags are not very good deals.
My regular purchases at BJ's are:
-Milk $3.09 gal (last week's price) bought 5 using our last one right now
-Land O Lakes cheese from the deli $2.99 or 3.49 lb just depends (plus I have a $1 off coupon from this week's paper and BJ's takes coupons )
-Perdue oven roasted turkey from the deli usually around $4.50 lb
-Hershey's choc syrup (For DH) 2 48 oz bottles $5.49 (not the best deal but better than the reg grocery store w/o coupon
-Nathan's hot dogs $8.49 for 24 (this is our splurge item) again not the best deal but MUCH better than reg grocery store price
-Dole bagged salad 3 lb for $2.49
-Perdue short cuts $9.99 for 3 10 oz bags (we use these for chef salad or chicken quesadillas for quick dinnners) again not the best deal but cheaper than a fast food dinner for 4 and I always have a coupon for at least $1 off
-sometimes the lean ground beef (price on this varies) I'll get it if it's $2.19 lb or less (90% or 93% lean)
-disposable drinking cups (during summertime)
A lot of the canned/pkgd goods are more expensive if you're a 'couponer'
I definitely watch my prices in there though, because they do tend to flucuate as much if not more than the grocery store. I like Target the best for many grocery items if I am desperate for something and have to pay full price

Oh yeah!! Ours sells Carvel ice cream cakes. When I have a $3 or $4 coupon, we'll get one as a treat.

Basically the only thing that I get at BJ's is their bulky rolls. A large bag of 18 for (I think) $3.29. Sometimes I get gas there. And occasionally when they have their coupons I will buy those products. Not too many bargains for me there.

I did really well at BJ's yesterday. I needed dryer sheets - they had a 200 count package of Bounce for $7.99-$2.00 instant rebate, so $5.99. There was a store coupon for $2.00 (in their monthly coupon book that comes in the mail) and I had a MFG coupon for another $0.25 off. So, I ended up getting the 200 count Bounce package for $3.74. Similar deal with the giant Tide. I use the self check out and it accepts both the store and MFG coupon - I know others have reported troubles stacking them, but I've never had a problem

Another tip - if you have a coupon that says save $1 off the purchase of two items...I find that BJ's accepts the coupon even if you're buying only one (probably because the one package is equal to double or triple a regular package anywhere else). For example, I bought a 64oz bottle of syrup and had a coupon for $1 off the purchase of 2...I only bought one bottle but the coupon scanned through without a problem (so I was able to get 64oz of syrup for $2.99).

Milk, milk, milk. With 4 kids I more than make up my membership fee. We have the membership that gives back a percentage of your purchases and make money on it every year.

I do the majority (95%) of my weekly grocery shopping at BJ's and pick up just a few things at the grocery store that I might need for a specific recipe. It's definitely saved us a bundle. I also like that many products are smaller packages than most warehouse stores (ie. chicken breasts).

The one and only reason I have a BJs membership - Enfamil Gentlease formula for my 5 month old ds. That stuff is a fortune and BJs is the only place to get any kind of a break on it!

I just started going to BJ's last week, the good deals I found were:

I got Perdue Perfect Portions chicken breasts for $2.99 lb and tilapia filets for $4.49lb. Plastic cups (something like 230 for $7).

Someone beat me to my favorite BJ's deal...Carvel cakes! LOL By comparison my local grocery store has a small Carvel b-day sheet cake for $17.99. My BJ's for the same cake is $12.99. And since BJ's takes mfg coupons I can save a little more there too.

BJ's has delicious bakery cakes as well, and the character ones are often a better deal than the local bakery or grocery store.

I buy ground beef (90% lean for $2.49). Sometimes the grocery store is cheaper but when I run out and there's no sale I can always get it at BJs. Their cooked rotisserie chickens are great at $4.99. The local grocery is $6.99. A1 steak sauce is a staple at our house. If I have coupons I will stock up when it's on sale at the grocery...when I don't it's a better deal at BJ's. We buy BJs wipes and Pampers Baby Dry...I always use BJs and mfg coupons for the diapers. Books are a good deal although I generally only use the library anymore.

I too am a BJs formula buyer. Enfamil in the big cans that lasts the whole week instead of going to the store 2x per week!
We did the boxes of baby food (Beech nut and Gerber) too. (although I can oficially say we switched to MILK this week!)

I get muffins (6 pack 3.49) from there. 6 pack for the grocery price of 4 pack.
I also get granola bar packs and 100 calorie snacks for lunches. ($7 for 24 pack at grocery store it's 6 pack for $2.50)
I'll do the veggie trays from BJs and fruit trays in the summer. So much cheaper than others and very very fresh.
Sometimes Lean Cuisine are cheaper than grocery prices.

The other day I got a 60 envelope box of Swiss Miss for $2.99!
This was due to their instant rebates. I try to walk around and look for those.
The monthly coupon book I get from them is often helpful. Especially since you can use their coupons with a manf. one.

My usual buys are:

kitchen trash bags
cheese> sliced, blocks, shredded> I re-size it when I get home
lunchable packs (treats for DD lunches)
100 calorie packs
granola bars> esp. the Kashi for DH
batteries
pull-ups for nite time for DS
big bag of frozen chicken (breast & tenders)
hamburger (divide up and freeze)
pork loinchops (divide up and freeze)
The Best spinach frozen ravoli!
>kids love the mini muffins from the bakery, big box of 32 for $4.99

and the gas, although sometime with my Kroger gas rewards, its cheaper there.

Don't forget to look for the coupon pages near the door, usually helpful!

BJs came in handy for booking my Disney Trip. They have a $25 off code to use at Alamo rent-a-car.

Made my weekly rental rate $168 AFTER taxes & fees. Could have been even $20 cheaper, but I wanted a mid-size car.

I love the prepared guacamole in the refridgerated section. It comes in a 2 pack for $5.99 andis made with fresh avacados- not flavoring and sour cream like alot of other places. I can't even make it myself for that price!!!

I also buy the Perdue baked breaded chicken breasts in a 3 pack for $9.99. DS(8) loves them for his chicken patty sandwiches and I like them as a quick dinner over pasta and sauce for chicken parm.

I buy the large bags of apples at BJ's too. Usually $5.99 for a huge bag of large apples which is much cheaper than a small bag of tiny apples. Bananas are a good price also.

Also- their bakery cakes are the best in the area! I always get them for birthday parties and they are much less expensive than the grocery stores by me. I also have people ask where I got the cake because the frosting is light and not heavy like alot of others. Last year I had a surprise party for DH and ordered a sheet cake with a pic of him on it from the late 70's. It was absolutely hysterical!
