Biggest Loser "Sizzlin' Hot" Summer Challenge

YAY! Back again.

Thanks for the welcome. Honestly, as long as I don't gain any more I think I'll be happy.

QOTD: I have a great family, so its too hard to pick just 1 memory. Trips, Christmasses, weddings......lots of fun times in our lives. They can't really help me on the weight front though. They all way more than I do. Oh well:rolleyes2

Thanks for all of your kind words!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I will miss coming up with fun Disney themes, though.

Nothing happened. Buffy was right! I definitely would have told her and all of you! This is my 5th challenge as HH host and I felt it was time to pass the baton especially since I am slated to travel for work starting in the fall.

Thanks again!!!! :)

Here we celebrate our progress and recognize our superstars.

Reminders:
-after 3 weeks of no reporting, you are dropped from the challenge & can re-start at any time, though
-if anybody knows they will miss weighing in, just PM and let me know and you'll be marked excused

Biggest Loser "Sizzlin' Hot" Summer Challenge Week 7!
This week’s group loss = 17.6 pounds!
Average percentage of weight lost 0.30 %
Total group weight loss so far 195.9 pounds!

AWESOME!

Retention Rate (compared to the 58 participants we had sign up for our start week on June 1st)
60% (this includes the Losers, Maintainers and Excused people!). Let's keep sending those weights people!

Before the weekly superstar list comes the disclaimer. I am human and I make mistakes. If you have any questions please contact me. For your reference this is the magic percentage of weight lost formula - weight loss for the week divided by weight for last week times 100, that gives us the percentage. Now let me test that with my numbers for week 1, click, click, click goes the calculator. Yes, that agrees with the percentage on the magic spreadsheet. (btw if its been more than 1 week between weigh-ins, then the % loss is divided by the number of weeks, to keep everybody on the same basis)

Now let's get to the good stuff. Who were our superstars of week 7?

The WISH Biggest Loser "Sizzlin' Hot" Summer 2012 Challenge Week 7 Superstars!!
#10 - 0.71% - sissy ib

Quote from Dare2Dream: How is your week going? Are you OP (on program)? Are you exercising? Drinking that water? You know what to do to make the magic happen. Get on the wagon. We are all here to help you on the journey. We can do this one day at a time. One bite at a time.

Have a healthy day! Congratulations 6ofus2!!!

Yes!!! Had a good day today, finally!

I was pretty much OP the whole day. In looking back my only real slip up was the yogurt I had right before lunch. I was really hungry but if I had noticed the time, I would have waited the 30 minutes until my "lunch zone". I did go over my protein today though, I'm starting to get the calorie part down so now I need to work on balancing out my carbs, fat and protein.

Another good thing. I was researching sports nutritionists at my local hospital and it turns out the sports nutritionist is my friend!! She had given me some guidelines for DS10 so he can gain weight, so I'm going to try to call my insurance co tomorrow and find out if they cover nutrition so I can see her.

So tomorrow I'm aiming for another good day!

Congrats to all of your losers this week!!!

Great job!!!!

NOW FOR THOSE OF US WHO SET A GOAL FOR THE CHALLENGE!!!

NOTE: This list includes participants who have reported in within the last 3 weeks, once someone misses 3 weigh-ins they are dropped from this report.

How this works: You set your goal for what you want to lose in the challenge. Then I calculate your weight loss in the challenge divided by your goal to get a % to goal.

Anybody can change their goal at anytime (or add a goal) – all you have to do is send me a PM.

Since the goals are an individual thing, the list is just in alphabetical order to make it easier for everybody to find their own name. If there are any questions or suggestions please let me know.

We have done 7 out of 13 weeks, so the challenge is 54% complete.

I have an announcement to make -

Sue (dvccruiser), CC (cclovesdis) and I (buzz5985) are stepping down in our roles of weightkeeper, HH, and hostess. We wanted to give plenty of notice in order for other's to step up to the challenge.

Any questions regarding any of the positions, just PM me. We will help any new people in anyway that we can.

Janis

:hug: Thank you Sue, CC and Janis! You have helped me steer my life in a healthier direction and I am eternally grateful!

``````````````````````````````````````````
Hi everyone! I missed you! Back from vacation and I only gained 2 pounds! :cool1: I really thought I gained more. Key West was absolutely beautiful. We rented bikes and rode everywhere. It was a lot of fun and great exercise.
I skimmed over all the posts from the week (boy you all can talk on here! :rotfl: I had 10 pages to catch up on!) Congrats to the losers in the last 2 weeks.
I will start with the new QOTDs tomorrow. Getting ready for bed now, ZZZZZZZZZZZZZ............... Good Night!
Ack! I forgot to send in my weight on Friday...crazy work day and getting the girls to Camp Grandma, and everything else got away from me. But, happily, I'm still maintaining! To the degree that I've adjusted my WW goal back to where it was pre-wedding/kids! My revised goal was only a few pounds higher, but I seem to have settled back where I was, which is awesome. :) I credit the running. But, then, of course, I ate a 9" pizza and a box of junior mints tonight (DH and I went out to dinner and to see Moonrise Kingdom)...
Hi everyone!
First and foremost: CC, Sue & Janis, thank you for everything you have done!
I haven't been very active on the board, but you have definitely helped keep me on track.
I just wanted to share something nice... on Saturday I ran my second-fastest half marathon ever. I felt good through mile 12 -- admittedly fading a bit at the end -- but felt pretty strong throughout. Then today I picked up a big bag of kitty litter at the pet store and realized that two months ago I was "carrying" that 20-pound bag of litter with me every step I ran. So thanks to all of you for your inspiring posts and thoughts!
Of course, then I made several terrible food choices today. But as they say, you get to start over every day. Perhaps tomorrow I won't have to fend off the delicious donut, boxed lunch, and cheesy bagel! (Any one would have been okay, but all three? Oof!)
I eat more foods now than as a child -- my mom wasn't much of a cook and therefore we didn't have a lot of variety! I'm vegetarian now, so eat a wide range of veggies. But in my 20s and 30s I was an adventurous omnivore! Still, I eat and love veggies I couldn't have imagined eating then. Beets? Love 'em. Brussels sprouts? One of my favorite things. I've even started adding kale to my smoothies. And, well, sure, chocolate WOULD be nicer... :)
We have gotten hooked on what we call "broccomash"... where you boil broccoli (lots) along with one or two small potatoes, and then mash them with a little bit of milk and a pinch of cheese. Essentially you just pad out the potatoes with broccoli... Now, I suspect we've boiled away most of the nutrients in the broccoli (you do boil it to mush...), but I have this idea that it's slightly healthier and yet still satisfying in that comfort food sort of way!
Before I turn in for he night, just had to give great huzzahs to you on this great feat!:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2. Great time on your miles and losing 20 pounds in two months! Awesome milestones! So excited for you!
I got off to a great start on the challenge. Then, the 4th of July and my birthday came along. I managed not to gain any weight that week, but I did not lose any either. Then, last week my mother had an accident and had to have surgery (shattered her ankle, 20 bone fragments pieced together, a plate, and 9 screws). I am a stress eater so, by the time Friday came around, I was up 3.6 lbs. from the week before. Mom's recovery will be long (at least 4 months) and stressful and I am an emotional eater. I am trying to stay focused though and counter the eating by excercise. The problem I am running into is that I have 2 kids under 4 and I am taking care of my mom since she cannot get around well so, I obviously have little time for myself right now. Does anyone know of any excercises that burn max calories in small amounts of time (like 30 minutes)? Any suggestions would be great!!!!!
I would not worry about burning calories right now. Worry about destressing. Buy a simple yoga tape and try it. Now is the time to destress rather than worry about losing weight. Most people can't lose weight under a stressful situation.
Good luck.
Morning everyone!
Its been a crazy few days.
We were in Vegas Thursday night thru Monday night. The Garth Brooks show at the Wynn theater was INCREDIBLE! I've wanted to see him since I was 8 years old. I truly will never forget that night. I screamed, laughed, cried, and got goosebumps a few times.
We returned home the wee hours of Monday morning. I went straight to bed while Alan stayed up. He was amped up and was excited for Monday night to roll around. Around 9pm we headed back to MCO to pick up his daughter from the airport. She came to live with us. We all stayed up and talked until we could barely keep our eyes open.
Nothing much planned today other then I need to get refocused on weight loss. I got on the scale and saw a 2 instead of a 1 and yeah, I'm not happy.
Well, I'm off to figure out dinner
Everyone have a great day!
What a great feeling. :goodvibes I keep telling myself running will be so much easier when I finally whittle away these last pounds. I already find it easier from the weight I have lost since January.
Of course, then I made several terrible food choices today. But as they say, you get to start over every day. Perhaps tomorrow I won't have to fend off the delicious donut, boxed lunch, and cheesy bagel! (Any one would have been okay, but all three? Oof!)
Funny, my mom is not a great cook either. She still cooks the most unhealthy meals. I really think it was the times my parents raised us. All that processed food was the "rage". I have vowed to cook better for my family, however, they are the pickiest eaters (even my husband)! They now will eat some things they never would have tried before .... it has only taken me 18 years! :rotfl2:
:hug:It is so hard to be the sandwich generation. I TOTALLY understand. I agree with Dona, just try to destress. That will make you feel better and perhaps not eat junk. There are lots of runners on here ... you might want to consider running for 30 minutes. I find it really helps me emotionally when I am in a stress mode. Hoping your mom gets better soon. You are a fantastic daughter!
Summer Thrills!!!
crushngrusher300.jpg
As we get fit, we find that things we may have felt uncomfortable or unconfident doing...we now SEEK out!!
QOTD: What is it you look forward to doing or are already doing because you've gained confidence in your fitness...it can be silly, inspirational, challenging or all the above! :)
For me, it is riding the AquaDuck! I know it seems silly, but had I not lost the weight before this cruise in September I would have worried so much at those travelers who poke fun at the overweight, the pain in my knees making it up the steps would remind me of my condition and the flab on my arms would have kept me from having as much fun as I could...all horrible reasons not to enjoy the simple things...but that's how I felt. I still am not at my goal, but I will be able to run up those steps and be so proud of how far I have come...I will celebrate each zoom down the flume! :) And reclaim the lighter side of life with a much healtheir heart (both physically and emotionally).
So sorry about your mom's accident. I'm glad she's ok. I agree with Dona. I would try to just make time for yourself. 30 minutes of yoga or stretching or napping would probably help you a lot right now.
I missed quoting the qotd about green veggies. I didn't each much in green veggie form this week. I only ate broccoli, lettuce, and zucchini. I'm horrible at eating veggies. I try, but usually do not succeed.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

It looks like I am on an every-other-day-BL plan. It seems like I cannot find the time to get here daily. Then, when I do make it on, I have 3 days to catch up on! Yikes. Not much else to report. I saw a 5k in my area tomorrow night, so if the weather is good, I may go do it. And, I am committed to getting to the gym tonight for body sculpting class. I've been at a stand still on the scale since we got back from vacation, so I need to step it up to kick off a few more pounds! I'm off to make lunch for me and the boys. Have a great day.

Soo soo sorry about your mom! That is AWFUL!!! I know she is soo comforted to have you there for her! Main thing on eating during stressful times is to try and avoid the fast food and keep healthy snacks on you when you're on the go, peanuts/pistachios etc. For exercise, involve the kids and do strength training! I would lay in the floor and life my little ones up and down like shoulder presses ;0 Or put them on my feet and hold their hands as I pumped them up and down into the air. Hold the littlest one out in front of you and do side twists :) Making all kinds of funny noises, it'll give you fun time with them and build some needed muscles to help you keep your strength up! :)

Disneywedding! That is GREAT! I LOVE Garth Brooks! How sweet to revisit all his great songs and love his voice!!! Travel always puts weight on me, mostly water weight, a few days of good eating will help you see that 1 again!!

Everyone have a great Tuesday!!!

YES!! If I could give out an award for best overall eater..YOU WIN!! You have inspired me to really work harder on getting more variety in there for my family! Wish we could do a week at your house! :)

Ooohh... an award? Is there a tiara involved???:rotfl2:

I will admit I have always been a reasonably healthy eater. But over the past few years I have definitely progressed in the right direction. So many more veggies and greens, mostly organics and many servings every day. I eat veggies two meals a day, minimum, but often three (love spinach, tomato and/or onion with my eggs), plus snacks (yesterday's afternoon snack was grilled squash.... I had a craving!) WW makes it SO EASY to eat lots of veggies because they are all 0 points (except for starchy veggies like potatoes, peas, corn, parsnips), so no weighing or measuring or counting! I can toss together a salad willy-nilly!

I'll be the first to admit that we eat a LOT of broccoli here... but it is something we all like, it is pretty easy to find any time of year, and can be made in lots of different ways.

Love to have you for a week here, but I think we would make you nutty! Life has been insane this summer!

Another good thing. I was researching sports nutritionists at my local hospital and it turns out the sports nutritionist is my friend!! She had given me some guidelines for DS10 so he can gain weight, so I'm going to try to call my insurance co tomorrow and find out if they cover nutrition so I can see her

Ooh that would be good. I've always wanted to talk to a sports nutritionist regarding DD's swimming. Love to hear what you learn.

So tomorrow I'm aiming for another good day!

Then, last week my mother had an accident and had to have surgery (shattered her ankle, 20 bone fragments pieced together, a plate, and 9 screws). I am a stress eater so, by the time Friday came around, I was up 3.6 lbs. from the week before. Mom's recovery will be long (at least 4 months) and stressful and I am an emotional eater. I am trying to stay focused though and counter the eating by excercise. The problem I am running into is that I have 2 kids under 4 and I am taking care of my mom since she cannot get around well so, I obviously have little time for myself right now. Does anyone know of any excercises that burn max calories in small amounts of time (like 30 minutes)? Any suggestions would be great!!!!!

Oh my gracious. First of all, prayers for your Mom's recovery. Second, prayers for your stress level.

For max calorie burn I would probably suggest circuit training. It combines weights and cardio. I like it because it doesn't get boring because you keep changing from one thing to another. And it is pretty easy to do anywhere if you want to keep it simple.... jumping jacks, squats, bicep curls (using small hand weights or whatever you have on hand), push-ups, tricep dips (using a chair or bench), chest flies, stuff like that. You just progress quickly from one thing to another. I've written up a few of my own circuits that I could share or you could definitely Google a good one.

Finally, some tough love..... You need to get a hold of that stress eating. Is eating too much or the wrong thing going to help your Mom in ANY WAY? Is it going to help your kids in ANY WAY? Is it going to help YOU in any way?? I'm guess the answer to all of those questions is NO. You will just end up feeling more stressed (from the guilt of overeating) and out of control.

When you cannot control other things in your life (Mom's recovery, kids needing attention, etc), take heart in knowing that you DO have control over what you eat! And by GRABBING that control, you will feel SO MUCH BETTER! You will wake up knowing that you need to care for Mom, care for the kids, but that you CAN EASILY care for yourself.... by eating right!! And that burden of waking up with the weight on your conscious of what you ate yesterday will be gone!

I know from whence I speak. You will feel better about EVERYTHING that is going on right now if you get some control over your eating. And you will be in a better frame of mind to take care of EVERYONE in your life that needs you right now. And it will be a good way of taking care of YOURSELF! :hug:

QOTD: What is it you look forward to doing or are already doing because you've gained confidence in your fitness...it can be silly, inspirational, challenging or all the above! :)

I can do anything I want without getting winded or overtired easily. I can keep up with my kids, lift things, carry things, and so on.

For me, it is riding the AquaDuck! I know it seems silly, but had I not lost the weight before this cruise in September I would have worried so much at those travelers who poke fun at the overweight, the pain in my knees making it up the steps would remind me of my condition and the flab on my arms would have kept me from having as much fun as I could...all horrible reasons not to enjoy the simple things...but that's how I felt. I still am not at my goal, but I will be able to run up those steps and be so proud of how far I have come...I will celebrate each zoom down the flume! :) And reclaim the lighter side of life with a much healtheir heart (both physically and emotionally).

GOod for you!! And great question!!

Happy Tuesday friends! Yet another nutty day here. Started at 5 am with the alarm to get us out the door at 5:35 for 6:30 practice (yes, it is a 40+ minute drive). I did my walk/run while DD swam, ate my breakfast (that I had brought along) in the car, drove her to Driver's Ed immediately following swim practice, waited another 2 hours (as the DE is also 40+ minutes from the house, it isn't practical to go home), killing some time in Target and a local consignment store. Then home to make lunch for everyone and start checking email, etc. And now here it is, 1:30 pm, and I feel like I've accomplished nearly NOTHING. And DH's birthday is tomorrow and I still need to wrap his gift and plan the birthday dinner! The house is of course, in disarray, which makes me nutty, the car is a dung heap, and we are leaving for vacation on Sunday and there is absolutely NOTHING packed yet.... I haven't even made a LIST! :eek:

Really watching my calories and carbs this week in an effort to have a good weigh-in before leaving for vacation. No matter HOW HARD I try to be good on vacation, by about Wednesday or Thursday I have pretty much thrown in the towel and am double-fisting the Ghiradelli chocolate brownies that DSIL always makes. :rotfl: I often come home from the week at the lake up anywhere from 3-6 pounds! Then it takes me a month or more to get back to where I was! I get right back OP but the weight just DOESN'T drop off like it used to when I was younger.

And this year will be a bit tougher, because we are actually leaving our lake vacation with my family a day early because DD has a big swim meet Saturday, then we will head STRAIGHT to the Cape for DMIL's birthday party on Sunday! We will be staying at the Cape a few days to visit with out-of-town family that we don't see too often. And then the Thursday of that week? Well, glad you asked. DH has SURGERY scheduled for that day! :scared1: If I can keep my weight gain to just 3 pounds or less for those two weeks I figure I'm doing good! And that's my goal. GOTTA keep up the exercise!

Okay.... I've got some beds to make and laundry to fold (does it EVER end??). TTYL..............P

So computer system at work finally got back fully on Saturday afternoon
Enjoyed 2 days of no calls only to walk in today and the entire hospital campus is without power!!!

This is crazy!
On a brighter note....I have lost almost 3 lbs since Friday which is great since I had gained like 5 lbs last week!! And I bought Zumba Rush yesterday so can't wait to get home and give it a try :)

Gotta go..meeting starting. DH has school tonight so might get a chance to catch up with everyone.

Congrats to all the losers and thanks for the kind words! I'll wear the tag with pride this week. :thumbsup2

I wore a swimsuit at the pool last Friday and felt pretty good. (See my avatar) I even got in the pool with my 2 year old nephew & played for over an hour. Last summer I NEVER got in the pool. :( I look forward to rocking a newer suit next summer once I'm at goal.
Another thing I'm doing is having FUN dancing at Zumba. I feel more confident and as time goes, I'm feeling like I'm doing and looking better while I dance.

Hi all :wave:

Short day of work at Target for me today and it throws me off big time. Used to be I'd work all day, wait for Dh to pick me up after he got done at his job then come home and walk the dog.

Now I have a lot more early days so Dh can pick me up at lunch, dop me home and then head back to work until he's done. And its been so hot that doggie walks are rare this time of day lately. So I have been lazing about playing online or just general bumming.

NEED to get out of that mindset. And its not that i don't have stuff to do here, its just that I DON'T do it. I have to get myself out of this rutt.
