Biggest Loser "Sizzlin' Hot" Summer Challenge

Just checking in to celebrate reaching my mini-goal of losing 13 pounds.

I am no longer morbidly obese!! Clinically obese sounds MUCH better :cool1: :woohoo:

Taxi cab hat, starbucks gift card, Pics of my kids, Mouse Ears, camera.

LOL the taxi cab hat gave me a funn mental pic. Your items all say FUN MOM. Love it.

WOOSH!!!!!!

4 pound weight loss this week!!!!! I didn't weigh in last week because it was still the same as the week before. But this week I was really really focused on food.

Now to run with it!!!

16 pounds gone since January!!! :cool1::cool1::cool1:

:cheer2:WOOOOHOOO way to go!!!!:cheer2:

Hello everyone. Time to get back on track I didn't do so well on vacation and the scale shows that. We are talking about doing a 5k in Nov. which means I've got a lot of work to do to get ready for it. I would love to at least jog the whole thing but where I'm at right now I know that won't happen. We've downloaded the couch to 5k program and we are starting it Monday. I've planned out our meals for the next 2 weeks (we get paid bi-weekly) and made my shopping list hoping this will help me stay on track. :) I hope you all have a great weekend.

Good luck on the running. I am envious of all those that jog. Knee surgery as a kid knocked me out of that group. 2 weeks of meals??? I can barely plan 2 days. You rock!

Just checking in to celebrate reaching my mini-goal of losing 13 pounds.

I am no longer morbidly obese!! Clinically obese sounds MUCH better :cool1: :woohoo:

:cheer2::cheer2: That is wonderful!!! Way to go!!!:cheer2::cheer2:

Hello all you losers :wave2: I have the honor of being your coach for this week. I hope I can provide a few QOTD that keep you engaged. My first QOTD is:

You meet a new person and you want them to get an idea of who you are, but you cannot tell them in words. Instead you give them a box with 5 things inside for them to look at/listen to/taste/whatever. What would you put in the box?

Thank you for coaching us this week! In my box would be my wedding ring, a photo of my four children, a crucifix, ipod w my fav zumba playlist & an anchor.

Fun vacation by the sound of it! Was this BG Virginia or FL?
Glad DS did okay with his extractions. Hopefully the next set will go as well.
Have you ever considered using a clothes line? Perfect for this time of year. None of that "battle of the appliances" where the a/c and the dryer are at constant odds. Just a thought. Sundried clothes smell good too!
Stay safe in the storms!

Evening friends! Good news is that DH is returning from ME just in time to pick up DD at swim. Bad news is that it seems like I got nothing done with my "extra" 2 hours. Filled the gas tank (again!), talked with Mom, made dinner, packed up a few vacation items, worked on the packing list, did some dishes, ate...that's it. :sad2:
Tomorrow is another day, right? But I will get at least 2 more things done before I crash tonight, I promise! And I am DONE eating for the night, other than a cup of decaf green tea.
TTYL..............P

Busch Gardens Virginia. I should try the Florida one sometime, in is more focused on the animals. There have been some changes I am not too crazy about, both my friend and I are going to let them know that since the change in ownership it is not as good as it once was...still fun, but I remember the old park.

DS is doing great on the extractions. He took some Advil yesterday, none since. His Dad is more upset about it than he is!

No clothesline - our homeowner's association won't let us put those up (I really do not like HOA's ). The storms just blew through, didn't even really cool if off much.

Talking with Mom always takes awhile with me. And you got some packing done! Working on the list sometimes takes more time than the actual packing, but it really streamlines things. I need to work on a new list for November - strictly carry on, no checking luggage!

Headed to the Cape tomorrow till monday. Wish we could stay longer but i have class (2 weeks left!) just finisehd, packing...I am the worst packer, I have SO MUCH STUFF and im only there for a few days haha. oh well at least im prepared for everything!
Going to try to workout on vacation, and hopefully eat well. Dont know if I'll be able to check in, but have a good weekend if i dont talk to ya'll.
Exhausted now, time for bed

Have fun! I always overpack, especially if taking the car.

My first QOTD is:
You meet a new person and you want them to get an idea of who you are, but you cannot tell them in words. Instead you give them a box with 5 things inside for them to look at/listen to/taste/whatever. What would you put in the box?

A screen shot of the DISBoards! That's a big part of my life. Love the people I meet, talking about Disney or just stuff, listening to the Podcast.

A picture of my family and friends in front of Cinderella's castle, since Disney has become a passion since our 2006 visit (at least with me - DH and DS just like going along for the ride). And DS is so much happier when he has his best friend with him to hang out with instead of us old adults!

My iPhone - it has all my interests. Geocaching, astronomy, games, etc, even my shopping list, music, books and movies! Along with my email and Disney apps! I have a copy of the Bible on that as well.

An OU football hat, big Sooners fan, in good times and bad!

A scale...I've been watching my weight on and off since I left home, and big time since DS was born...it is the off times that cause the problems! And although I would rather it wasn't, it is a big part of my life, and probably will always be, since I can't just "stop" when I reach my goal, I need to continue what I have learned so that I stay healthy and feeling the way I want.

It is hard to do it in only five!

Thanks again CC for a great challenge! I'm always "climbing" laundry mountain but I never seem to get to the summit! :rotfl: Just threw a load in the washer a few minutes ago, but no hanging stuff out today in the rain. oh well.
***************************
Happy Friday friends! DD went to an extra swim practice again this morning, so we were up and out bright and early in the rain this morning. Tempting to just ditch the exercise, but I told myself to do 2 laps (2 miles) and then I could quit. I did 3 laps and contemplated a 4th, but it was raining harder by then and I was carrying my phone and didn't want it to get wet. Just pleased with myself for doing the 3.
Scale was disappointing today. I had a GREAT week.... my eating was RIGHT ON TRACK. I did a really "clean eating" 2 day cleanse on Sunday and Monday (mostly greens and lean turkey/chicken), then kept up the low carb for the remainder of the week. I was right on point with my calories (well, below on Sun, Mon, and Tues), and while I wasn't exactly a powerhouse, I did exercise most days. I had a cup or two of decaf green tea every day. So to see that I dropped just .1 lb.... sad.:sad2:
My analysis of the situation was too much Splenda (definitely had more than usual), a few diet Cokes (not proud of it, since I KNOW it is HORRIFIC for me), probably too FEW calories Sun-Tues, and not enough healthy fats all week. Plus possibly not enough fiber, as I didn't have any of the higher fiber carbs that I often eat, plus no beans all week.... and I definitely did NOT get enough sleep this week. I was probably averaging 5-6 hours per night most nights this week. I really need about 8 hours. And too much coffee!
Onward and upward. Will stay RIGHT OP today and tomorrow and maybe take another sneek peek at the scale tomorrow or Sunday before we depart for vacation and hopefully see an improved number. It is still an okay number just not what I was really hoping for. One pound.... one measly pound I wanted to lose.
SO MUCH to do today and I have to leave the house at 3pm to take DD for another driving hour and then off to the Y for practice tonight.... so I will be gone from 3pm until 9pm and I have NOTHING productive to do in all that time! Frustrating! Wish I could bring housework along with me! I'll work on my packing list and make sure that it has everything, maybe swing by the car wash (does it make any sense to wash a car in the rain??), maybe vacuumthe car if it isn't raining too hard, and check out Pinterest on my Ipad using the oh-so-lovely free wi-fi available at McDonald's!
Time to make beds and pull out the suitcases! TTYL.....................P

I only do laundry usually on the weekends - except when I have a day off like yesterday. DH does his own, due to a conflict we had back when we were first married! But I do all the house stuff as well, towels and sheets and whatnot. When DS starts running, I usually start doing an extra load in the middle of the week as well, and sheets sometimes spill out into the week. I normally have everything clean at least one day out of the week - except the clothes we are wearing! Never ends...:sad2:

Sounds like a good analysis of what happened. I weighed myself this morning and I had expected more...oh well, just keep on keeping on!

I wash cars in the rain. Rain doesn't get off the bugs and whatnot that seems to accumulate. At least it is clean for awhile, and I can see through the windshield again! DH vacuumed the van for me before the Busch Gardens trip, even though he wasn't going. It really needed it, he did a great job!

WOOSH!!!!!!

4 pound weight loss this week!!!!! I didn't weigh in last week because it was still the same as the week before. But this week I was really really focused on food.

Great job :cheer2:!

Sounds much better :cheer2:! Well on your way!

************************************************************

Back at work again today. Still feeling tired...DH said my voice sounded a little croaky this morning, hope I did not catch anything on the trip. I always wipe down things like the phone and remote and light switches and such in the room, but you can't sanitize the parks:scared:! Since I got a good much of the laundry done yesterday, I can take it easy tomorrow hopefully. Need to do a couple loads of whites tonight instead of during the heat of the day tomorrow. I love having a laundry on the main floor instead of the basement - one less flight of stairs for my knees - but it does heat it up sometimes.

Can't remember exactly what the scale said this morning since I was rushing, hope I remembered to write it down...wasn't pleased with it, I know that. Was expecting better, but I haven't been watching it for a couple of days, back OP today  so it'll straighten out.

Hope everyone is having a great day!

Carol :goodvibes

I'll do some individual responses later tonight, but I wanted to get caught up on QOTD. I hope everyone had a healthy week and have plans or a fun and on-plan weekend!!! I also wanted to say THANK YOU to lmhall for an AWESOME week of coaching!

QOTD: You might have to think on this one! What is the funniest scene in a movie/TV show that had you cracking up?

My all-time favorite funny movie scene is the vignette in Love Actually where the British guy who's having bad luck with the ladies decided to get up one day and go to the USA because he thinks that women will be wild about him because he's got a British accent. He buys a ticket to somewhere in the mid-west, gets out at the airport and grabs a taxi, and asks to go to "any bar".

It's like a grown up fairy tale, because all of a sudden he happens upon this houseful of beautiful women who fawn all over him. The one-liners that follow are just absolutely hilarious (though not family-friendly). It's just hilarious because who hasn't wished at one point in their life--in jest, at least--that there would be this fantasy PLACE that, if we go there, everyone will find us INCREDIBLY ATTRACTIVE for exactly who we are... I love how it kind of makes fun of that, but at the same time just kind of goes along with it and lets it happen, like reality is suspended for the holidays and he gets exactly what he wanted for Christmas!

Thanks for coaching this week, and I love this question!

First off would be a triptych of photographs of my three wonderful/terrible/crazy cats. I am a little embarrassed about the extent of the sacrifices that Matt and I have made for them in our household, but it's our experiences with them that have turned us into vegans and we've loved each of them since the day we adopted them. They've taught us a LOT about patience and radical acceptance, through a litany of vet bills and quite serious behavior problems.

Then, there would be a Southern Seitan Sandwich from Blossom Cafe in NYC, which is my favorite meal. The menu describes it as: spiced breaded seitan, caramelized onions, avocado, chipotle aioli on rosemary focaccia. It's essentially a yummy vegan fried chicken sandwich :) But, instead of having it with fries, I would put it with a side of sauteed kale, which you can order at the restaurant. It would show everything I love about food--keeping it yummy, flavorful, and indulgent but with an eye towards healthy balance and a love for animals.

Third, I'd show the pillowcase that I made when I started teaching myself to sew last summer. Not only do I love the fabrics I picked out and the design I made, but I am so proud of how much effort I put into it and I also LOVE to SLEEP... :)

Look behind the cat for the pillowcase...
11+-+1

Fourth, I would include a way of viewing the Access database for meal planning that Matt just designed for me to store the ingredients of recipes so that I can run a report to create a personalized shopping list. He did this on his two weeks off for fun as a gift to me. It is a perfect exhibit of our relationship because we both work in databases for a living and do this kind of thing for fun. :)

Finally, I have a prayer card of the prayer of St. Francis of Assisi, and even though I don't practice as a Catholic, this prayer means a lot to me because it represents my values and how I want to act towards others. Matt and I decided it will be one of the blessings in our non-denominational wedding when the time comes, and so it's really important to me.

I'll catch up later tonight, too... I'm loving reading everyone's responses to this question!!!

Sounds like you are ready to go with a fresh start! Enjoy your weekend and good luck with the C25K!

I love all your choices. I am all for family and disney items. I didn't know you could scrapbook. I always wanted to do that, but not creative enough. The salad a great idea, now I wonder what veggies will be in salad. Best item I think is bible. That is awesome. I am a Christian too. Finally the scale, unusual, but logical item in conveying weightloss.

Scale is probably a bit unusual, but since losing my weight, SO MUCH of my life is (for better or worse) about WEIGHT LOSS. In fact, I've given serious consideration over the past year or so about applying for a job with WW and I think I'm going to finally do it this fall when the kids start back to school.

I guess I am a "quiet" Christian. I don't tend to talk about it and reach out to folks about it like I know I should, but I am very shy about talking to people. It know that would be a tough part about working for WW, but I think I could do it!

Send the rain here, I love rain. Fabulous job on the 3 laps. :cheer2: and yeah the sleep deprivation will definitely hinder weight loss. Cells need time to recover to work properly. Good luck with getting everything done today.

Not exactly getting it all done, but feeling better about crossing stuff off the list!

Just checking in to celebrate reaching my mini-goal of losing 13 pounds.

WOOHOO on achieving that goal!!

Busch Gardens Virginia. I should try the Florida one sometime, in is more focused on the animals. There have been some changes I am not too crazy about, both my friend and I are going to let them know that since the change in ownership it is not as good as it once was...still fun, but I remember the old park.

I offered to take DS there for our Mother/Son weekend this summer, but he didn't want to drive and I wasn't willing to pay what it would cost to fly and get a rental car. Maybe that is for the best? How are the coasters? Are they worth a trip from NH??

DS is doing great on the extractions. He took some Advil yesterday, none since. His Dad is more upset about it than he is!

No clothesline - our homeowner's association won't let us put those up (I really do not like HOA's. The storms just blew through, didn't even really cool if off much.

I would sometimes LOVE a HOA to keep the neighbors from leaving their yards a mess, but I know I would also HATE it when I couldn't use a clothesline or put out my trash a day early or skip a lawn mowing once in a while! Plus I don't need any extra bills!

Talking with Mom always takes awhile with me. And you got some packing done! Working on the list sometimes takes more time than the actual packing, but it really streamlines things. I need to work on a new list for November - strictly carry on, no checking luggage!

Love me a good list!

Have fun! I always overpack, especially if taking the car.

I normally have everything clean at least one day out of the week - except the clothes we are wearing! Never ends...:sad2:

You're right... it never ends. DD swims daily most of the year, and doubles during the summer and during HS season (Nov-Feb).... so I have two towels from every swim (hair and body.... I don't want her to reuse towels from the Y.... icky). Plus during part of the year (when they aren't tapering for championships) they are doing dry land work as well, so she will also bring home a sports bra, tank top, and running shorts and sox. Add that to the normal amount of laundry (and throw in a DD who will NOT wear her jeans more than once and a sloppy teen boy who CANNOT wear his clothes more than once) and I do LOTS of laundry! Oh well.

Sounds like a good analysis of what happened. I weighed myself this morning and I had expected more...oh well, just keep on keeping on!

Fingers crossed for both of us to have better weigh-ins coming up soon!

Yup, gonna go to the carwash. It has stopped raining here, so I will also vac the car at little bit (whatever I can do with $1).

Back at work again today. Still feeling tired...DH said my voice sounded a little croaky this morning, hope I did not catch anything on the trip. Sorry you are feeling a bit under the weather. I always think of my laundry lugging as exercise. Our laundry is on the main floor, but of course the bedrooms and hence most of the clothes, live on the second floor.

Just a quick minute left to say Hi and Bye. Out the door in 2 minutes to take DD to Driver's Ed and then the Y. Didn't get as much done today as I wanted, but did get a bit of help from the kids. THeir rooms are improved (although not great), my scrapping table/area has been cleaned and I've started packing up scrapping stuff to take on vacation. I added to my packing list, vac the downstairs, emptied trash and such, and had DD bake the muffins I had planned to make. Cleaned the kitty litter and the mouse cage, sort recycling.

Off to the bank and AC Moore to get some adhesive! TTYL..............P

Pamela, yes I think the Kingdom Keepers series is worth it. But that's just me. DS11 is really enjoying them, DS16 only got through book 1.

Good day today, so far. I did have DD's fruit pastry at Panera (need to go log it) but the sweetness really did me in. I've got a headache, and I feel blech. Not the result I was expecting but I'll take it! It's a good reminder that I don't need that crap.

I'm just going to keep plugging away.

Happy Friday afternoon, everyone!

Headed to the Cape tomorrow till monday. Wish we could stay longer but i have class (2 weeks left!) just finisehd, packing...I am the worst packer, I have SO MUCH STUFF and im only there for a few days haha. oh well at least im prepared for everything!

So jealous - I miss New England summers and heading to the Cape, Maine, New Hampshire - have fun!

Let's see:

1) A picture of my husband and my two daughters,
2) A book (generic - I'm always reading something!),
3) A movie ticket (generic again - I *love* the movies!),
4) My iPhone - my whole life is on that thing, from our family schedule to my primary interests, my music..., and
5) A TARDIS to represent my nerdy, geeky self. I like to let my geek flag fly!

Happy early birthday to a YOUNG lady!! :thumbsup2

Aw, thanks! I am definitely not feeling the pinch of 40 like I thought I would. It helps that I'm turning 40 in the best shape of my life. :goodvibes

Just checking in to celebrate reaching my mini-goal of losing 13 pounds.

I am no longer morbidly obese!! Clinically obese sounds MUCH better :cool1: :woohoo:

Woohoo! That has to feel so good - congratulations! :cheer2: I'd be on the phone to my doctor, saying, hey, guess what?! :rotfl2:

Fourth, I would include a way of viewing the Access database for meal planning that Matt just designed for me to store the ingredients of recipes so that I can run a report to create a personalized shopping list. He did this on his two weeks off for fun as a gift to me. It is a perfect exhibit of our relationship because we both work in databases for a living and do this kind of thing for fun. :)

I love this! I have a similar relationship with Excel and have been meaning to learn more about Access. I totally get this one. :)

Waiting for DH to get home from work and wrapping up some work of my own...tonight we go back to my MIL's to get DD7 and DD5! They've been there all week, and while we've had fun, I miss them...

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

pjlla, I missed a quote line! DD7 and DD5 are both new to our neighborhood school this year as they were in a different program last year. DD7 will be in 3rd grade, and DD5 will be in kindergarten. DD5 did a private K last year as a jump-starter (a young 'un!), and she's already reading whole books, so I'll be interested to see how they work with her. We're all excited!

I didn't know there was a podcast. Where is it? The Iphone definitely tells a lot about a person, I am lost without mine. Your the second person to include a scale. And the pic of the castle is nice touch. Shows you are fun and young a heart. That is a great way to be. It also helps in the staying healthy areas. Thanks for the great answer.

The kitty cat photos are too cute. I love cats, they are so comforting. I also adore the fact that you love animals the way you do. I wish more felt that way. OK after posting I am going to have to look up Seitan, it sounds like a meat substitute? The recipe looked interesting and a database for recipes??? Great GOOGAMOOGA how does anybody design those. That is way over my head. He must really adore you. The pillowcase is lovely, I wish I could sew. I buy patterns and fabric and even a machine, but somehow I have yet to introduce them all together. I am not catholic, but I do think a lot of the prayers are very heartwarming and inspirational. I am also getting a big kick out of reading all the responses.

:goodvibes Thanks for coaching and I really like your question. Hmmmm ... I would have:

• A picture of my family, husband and 3 sons.
• An apple since I am a teacher and attempt to eat healthy ... I also like fruit.
• Running shoes since running has been a priority lately in my life.
• A calendar ... I am an organizer and can't survive without it. All the errands/appointments/sports events/band festivals/etc. that consume my life.
• My Bruegger's coffee card. They know me well there ... and actually have my coffee waiting on slow days when they see me parking my car in the parking lot! :lmao:

The apple made me giggle, what age group do you teach? I totally get the coffee thing, I used to have a place that recognized me as well.

Hey I want a TARDIS, oh the adventures I could have. My son and I adore Dr. Who, we cannot wait until it starts back up again.

Gee, technically still obese but only two pounds from being overweight, hopeful I can start August being overweight and by Christmas be normal weight zone! So excited! It is nice to see a loss while it's bloat time but hope to really knock off some next week! :)

The grades I teach depend on the students every year. I am a reading specialist (for the last 14 years) and work with children who are struggling to read. I am in a K-5 building and have taught all of these grades throughout the years. Before this, I taught first grade in a classroom (for 10 years). And, I just love my job. :goodvibes It can be challenging at times, but it is very rewarding.

:cheer2::cheer2::cheer2: I am rooting for you! Hopefully next week you will see a big weight loss and get out of the obese category.

OK I understood everything but the Norman Rockwell. That one stumped me. What does it represent?
