Biggest Loser "No Excuses" 2012 Team Challenge for Losers and Maintainers!!!

Pameladelighted to hear your daughter finished on a high note:cool1:
Coming to the end of a beautiful day here and for the first time in a while I'm feeling positive about being able to do this and become a Bl:)

I woke up at a decent time for a Saturday and read some posts and just realized that I never replied! :scared1: Today has been a busy day as well. I have wanted to coach this week since we decided which week would be merge week and am so glad I am! Thank you for all the thank yous! :)

My new keyboard is doing the same thing my other one did and sometimes doesn't believe that I typed a letter so there may be some misspellings in this post. As a former teacher, this bugs me...just a bit. ;)

There's some rumblings of a meet up of some sort. We (those going) should try to set up an official meet thread when it gets closer in.

Oh and I was going to do the Princess and the Tink but we are aiming for a trip to the UK in 2013 so something had to give, but I want to run a race for my 40th year.

Thanks for the info! Without having a job, I have no idea what will be going on then, but this is good inspiration to start moving more. :cool1:

I'd like to have a better understanding of nutrition, portion sizes, calorie numbers, etc. Water I can do, exercise I kind of have a handle on, but food is my downfall.

One of the hardest things for me was learning what a portion of x food is. I would have to look it up and then measure it. Then, I drove my parents nuts with all the measuring cups and spoons I was using so I splurged and bought containers that were pre-measured. Now, I use a 1/2 cup bowl for frozen yogurt and a one cup sized cup for milk and it makes things so much easier. And, I have quieter parents. :rotfl:

Ash and I just got back from seeing The Hunger Games! It was amazing! Can't wait to see it again!

Izzie slept part of the evening. Fever was gone when Brian put her to bed and we hope it stays that way! This has been so hard on her!

Glad you enjoyed it! Sounds like Izzie is feeling better! :goodvibes

I'm throwing around the possibility of doing the ToT 10 mile this year or the Princess 1/2 next year, but if there's a bunch of people doing Marathon Weekend, I'd totally change my plans to run with my fellow teammates! :cool1: Which marathon is it?

I would love for my first race to be a Disney one and with WISHers!

To eat a balanced breakfast EVERY morning. More often than not I'm either eating just a fiber bar or nothing and I know that's not good... :guilty:

Before I was told I am allergic to oats, I ate oatmeal with a diced up apple in it almost every morning. It was filling and sustained me. Since the allergy diagnosis, this has been a struggle for me too. :goodvibes

My health journey seems to be going good right now and I'm striving to keep it that way!

:woohoo:

EXERCISING. That is the hardest thing for me to make time for and make myself do!

FWIW, I've heard people find it helpful if they schedule exercise as if it's an appointment. :goodvibes

I would like to be able to easily get up for a workout before work because this always helps my day go so much better. But the 5 15 alarm always seems to always get ignored and reset for 6 30.

I have to say, I was the most successful when I woke up when the alarm went off and was able to get in an hour on the Wii. You are doing very well and of course, YRMV. :goodvibes

And, thank you for reminding me of what worked before as it might just work again! :)

If it could be anything I'd kill my asthma-DEAD- when it plays up everything else seems to suffer:scared1: I get them munchies (or if I'm taking steroids I develop an amazing ability to vacumn up huge amounts of food without ever feeling full:scared1:), exercise becomes impossible and I cave in to all my bad habits at once(choc, crisps etc):headache:

I would really like it though if eating fruit became my guilty pleasure (instead of wanting junk);)

 I WISH there was a way to make your asthma disappear.

I had to take steroids once and I was shocked by how much you had to eat according to the Rx info. I was teaching at the time and frequently didn't eat lunch, so I had to actually plan to eat meals. But, I understand, I wanted to eat. Steroids are awful.

Maybe Pamela can help with fruit ideas. I top mine with a serving of Cool Whip to make it feel more like dessert, but I know the ingredients in it are not so great for you. I wonder if fat free whipped cream is okay. Pamela? TIA!

DD swam at Harvard last night for Y New Englands and ended her season with two personal best times..... and both were times she had been trying HARD to get to. And her 400 free relay broke their team record last night! It was an absolutely WONDERFUL way to end the season for her!

Congrats to DD!!!!!!! :yay:

First of all.... HUGE THANKS CC for taking on the challenge of being the first coach of the merged group!!

Thanks!

My name is Pamela..... I'm a 40-something;) married (20 years this year) of two kids.... DD is 16.5, DS is 14. I consider myself mostly a SAHM, but I have been a subsitute teacher since DS started 1st grade 8 years ago.

and one of the most health-conscious, friendliest, most helpful person I know!

So most of the time on the TM I do brisk walking, hill intervals, or sprint intervals.... but with nice outside weather again, I am finding I WANT to do some running and have gotten back into a 2-4 mile habit over the last few weeks. I also try to hit the fitness room at the Y a few days a week when DD is swimming to change things up. I use the stair climber, tread climber, bike, medicine ball, etc.

I would like to find an exercise that I really ENJOY and look forward to doing!!

I like the recumbent bike, but that may be more out of fear of falling off the threadmill. :rolleyes1 You do such a variety of exercises though. I'm sure that helps keep the weight off. What I love about you is that even though you don't enjoy exercise, you make the time to do it and encourage others to do the same! :worship:

Marathon Weekend is the BIG WISH meet weekend. I believe the WISH meet has in the neighborhood of 100 people. :thumbsup2

There also seems to be a big BL group of folks planning on going this year so there may be a mini meet. Most of us are doing the Donald for our race but at least a couple of folks are doing the Marathon. The marathon folks Scream Team for the Donalds and the Donalds Scream Team for the Mickey folks. I've never been before but it sounds like a lot of fun! :goodvibes

Thanks for the info!

Hmm, a WISH to use on my health? :wizard: Be able to switch to maintainer now? Run a 14 minute mile? I got it. Have these 53 miles behind me on the biking part of my triathalon. :rotfl: Okay, short sighted but on my mind this morning.

I baby-sat for someone while he biked 30 miles in about 2 hours. :scared1: I know you WILL do it! :goodvibes

So.... today I restart my Healthy Habits and recording everything I eat. Monday I am starting Jillian Michaels Body Revolution. I did her 30 day shred and LOVED it! I am pretty excited.

I am pretty confident that I will be back to a good place pretty soon. I know what to do, I know that it works and I FEEL SO MUCH BETTER when I am doing what I should.

:thumbsup2 The bolded part is so important! I am like that as well, but unfortunately my mom, sister, and BIL can eat anything and not gain weight and love desserts. I need to remember what you said. Thanks for the inspiration! :cool1:

The one thing I would like to change immediately is to quit the dang snacking on unhealthy foods. I don't need it, I don't want it, I just munch and don't know why. :confused3

There are a few of us that try to keep trigger foods or foods that we could eat and eat out of our house. I find it helpful FWIW.

From one Jill to another~Hello! Let us know how Body Revolution is. I tried some of the P90x dvds that I borrowed from the gym and I'm interested to see if they are similar. I loved the P90x, have you ever tried it?

Jill

JILL POWER!!!!!!:cool1:

I will let you know how I fair with the other Jill (Jillian). The box was waiting for me when I got home from spring breakin it. I am bumming around with the DH and kiddos this weekend (hitting the yard and garden too). So, I figure I'll get a fresh start on Monday. Why do Mondays always seem to be the "start" day?

I would like the ability to only eat when I am hungry. Not bored, stressed, happy, or sad. The emotional eating is definitely a big downfall for me.

 I understand. I have been really struggling with this this challenge. If you have any strategies, please share!

:woohoo: for the clean house!

As of last week's weigh in, I am at my lowest weight since before I had DS5!

:yay: That's awesome! You rock too! :)

Mine would related to eatting, just like:

You CAN do it! :goodvibes

QOTD: I would ask for a nice quiet treadmill or a quieter elliptical! I lvoe my elliptical as I get a great workout on it but it is just too loud! I have to put the closed captioning on the tv so I don't blow the speakers. THe only upside to this is that reading what is being said helps the time go by faster. Unless of course I am watching a live show like the local news in the morning where they are a good 10 seconds behind.
:

I have this same thing with our fake elliptical. (No handlebars.) It is too loud to use for longer than 15 minutes. :headache:

Coming to the end of a beautiful day here and for the first time in a while I'm feeling positive about being able to do this and become a Bl:)

:yay:

Just finished my "long" run (3.27 miles). It was blatantly obvious that I hadn't run in a week. ugh That and I stupidly wore brand new shoes and now have a blister. grr It was a crummy run, but it's over and I can cross that off my list! :cool1:

So now that the snow is melted off the back yard and the sun is shining I'm going to convince DH to mow the lawn for the first time this year! He's going to be thrilled, I just know it. :rotfl:

Doing :laundy: right now and even have the first load on the line. DS1 is flying to Arizona :cool2: with his baseball team tonight so need to make sure all his stuff is washed and ready. All last week during the snow he just kept rubbing it in our faces, "It's 80 degrees in Arizona. That's where I'll be. Where will you be? Oh, that's right. Here in the rain and snow." bwah ha ha Kids are so much fun. ;) DH and I are envious. We certainly never went anywhere during our high school spring breaks!

Have a great weekend Mickeys and Donalds!

Forgot to answer the QOTD: Well, like others, I would want to eat only when hungry. But also I'd want to be not such a scaredy cat. I'm kinda chicken to ride my bike because I'm afraid the cars will hit me, and I have inline skates that I'd like to break out, but am afraid of falling. So courage would be a good gift from a genie!

Hi everyone! It's so great to see everyone together here and to hear all your stories. You're all so inspiring!

QOTD wish...I'd like the ability to instantly see the PointsPlus value of anything, anywhere (along with the nutritional stats that go into calculating the PP). As a lifetime WWer, I'd love to be able to go out to eat without having to play that guessing game all the time!

We have guests in town this weekend - our best man and his wife - so we've been eating out a lot, with more to come. I think I did great at Eggspectation today - egg white omelet with smoked salmon, red onion, and capers. I subbed a fruit cup for the potato side, and I only had 2-3 bites of DDs' chocolate chip pancakes. :rolleyes1

Tonight we go back to the haunt of our mid-late 20s, an Irish pub in NW DC. The food is great, but at least I'm driving, so I don't have to worry about pint after pint of Guinness!

Hope everyone's having a great weekend.
XO

Welcome Mickeys and Donalds to the Merged Thread!
QOTD for Friday, 3/23: Introduce yourself. Share your name, how your health journey is going, and any goals you may have.
.

:wave2:

Life got so crazy last week I missed the change of address form! Fortunately I was able to find the new Biggest Loser house today. :goodvibes

I am lovetoscrap or LTS as most call me. I am the moderator on the WISH board (ever get bored or want to boost your point count come say Hi to the great newbies we have post there). I started with the BL last Jan and have lost 50 pounds. I do still have another 50 to go but for now my goal is just going to be for 10 more. Things have been slow for me this challenge so I am declaring today my "new beginning" and am going to have at least a pound a week loss from now until mid June. I am a SAHM and occasional Substitute Teacher, currently working as a long term Substitute Secretary at DD12's school.

I posted a long thing on the Mickey thread this week that I will try to summarize here (with how much I talk summarize is not something I am good at!) :

I have extolled the virtues of my South Beach diet from the mountaintops since I first started following it a few years ago. I love it as a way to eat for life and I have lost 50 pounds so I must be doing something right with it. BUT, I have been in a pretty hard stall-- maintaining quite well but not losing for some time now. I have offered advice to others that when this happens it might be a good idea to shake things up and try a new approach so I have been considering that all week. I know what to eat. I know how to maintain. I think I just need more structure now to keep me from eating too much. My body's food and calorie needs are different than they were last year but I am still eating the same amounts so I think that is why I am not losing. I have been looking at a variety of options online and trying to figure out what would probably work best for me.

I have mentioned many times that I HATE weighing, measuring, journaling and counting points but I hate being 50 lbs overweight more. I think that I am going to try WW online and see if that gives me the kick in the pants I need. I have the sign up window open, my credit card is next to me, I just haven't been able to actually commit to it yet. Supposedly today is the last day of no joining fee if I sign up for 3 months or I would probably just do the 7 day trial. I considered going to my local center which is just down the street from me and very convenient but I really don't think I will go and would quit pretty quickly. I am an online, techo oriented gal and my ipod touch is my constant companion so I think having everything online is the best strategy for me. I am hoping that I can still use the South Beach principles and stay on track with WW.

Anyway, I am excited at the merge and glad to see some old loser friends and to make some new ones!

QOTD for Saturday, 3/24: Aladdin's Genie has granted you one WISH that you have to use on your health. What is one thing that you would like to change immediately, without needing weeks to make it a habit?

I would like to easily drink 64+ oz of water throughout the day.
Easy--I would like to not be sick. Been sick for 'flippin' over a week

Welcome Mickeys and Donalds to the Merged Thread!

My name is CC (short for Christina) and I will be your coach this week. I am really looking forward to it.

Since we have been separate for awhile, I thought it best to go with the intro QOTD.

QOTD for Friday, 3/23: Introduce yourself. Share your name, how your health journey is going, and any goals you may have.

I am going to post HH next and then I'll be on as soon as I wake up in the morning. I am hoping to not sleep so late tomorrow.

My names Susan, I live in Oregon. I'm a Disneylander not World, so many of your quotd's mystify me or simply do not apply. Nothing against it, just can't get husband on a plane and the land is special to us. I went to the world many years ago as a teen and liked it-- it was very humid though and I got sick. I'm 43, soon to be 44. Lost 50 pounds a couple of years ago, slowly, with the help of the board, have gained about 20 pounds over the winter this year. I stopped going to the board actually because I was losing too much weight. Had lost 4 pounds since the challenge but being sick the last week, gained 3 back. I'm thinking much of it is sodium and water, since my water weight is pretty high on the scale, but I haven't exercised and wasn't the kind of sick where I was nauseous (just aches, sore throat, stuffy and runny nose, fever--blah) so I didn't eat much less lol. I probably should have gone to the doctor, but I always think I'm gonna kick it myself, and by the time I was realizing that wasn't gonna happen-- we had weird unseasonal snow- so no driving anywhere. I finally did a little research today and came up with oil of Oregano I made my husband go get me some-- it's supposed to be a good natural antibiotic. This was one I missed because in recent research I was only looking for natural antibiotics that were safe for cats lol. Hopefully this'll do the trick. I did call the doctor today but found out the only thing available on the weekend is the urgent care place-- and that's super expensive and you wait 3 hours to see anyone.

Anyway----When I get better I am going to be back with a vengeance, guaranteed. I am going to write down every single thing I eat or drink-- no more denial, and work out every opportunity. It's going to be hard too because my pool will be closed all next week, right around the time I will be feeling better, but I have my skateboard and bike. Fingers crossed for decent weather...

OOH that's a good one, I am totally self conscious and it makes me a scaredy cat too. :sad2: My husband is total oppossite and doesn't care what anyone thinks ever, so I try hard to be that way, but it's hard!! My biggest wish for QOTD is to have better eating habits. Ugh, I crave chocolate so much, it messes me all up!!

Well, I typed in my cc number and hit the button. And I think it may be a good way to see what I am doing wrong. I entered my meals for the day so far-- all mostly SB legal and I have TWO, yes 2, points left for dinner and the rest of the day!:lmao:

I had a regular premade hamburger patty for lunch (leftovers from Thursday) and it was not from lean beef (which sb doesn't allow either) so that 9 points:eek: sunk me! And i had it on a mini bagel that had the same nutrition content as a ham. bun.

And while SB encourages a small serving of nuts for snacks at 5 points I think I will be cutting back on those!

Good thing it is Saturday and week will begin on Sunday-- I am going to need all my weekly points to eat dinner tonight!:rotfl2:

I will say that I am unimpressed with their food database though. Nearly nothing that I typed in was on the list. I had to add in some grocery items that I think should be basics to a plan like this like the specific brand of whole wheat bread, International Delight Peppermint Patty creamer and the burger patty. Couldn't find anything close enough to use.

QOTD for Friday, 3/23: Introduce yourself. Share your name, how your health journey is going, and any goals you may have.

Hello Donalds and NEW Mickey friends!

My name is Fran and I am 45. I live with my husband and three sons. This is my first WISH challenge and I can't say thank you enough! I have found a lot of motivation to lose weight and have lost close to 10 pounds so far. I live outside of Pittsburgh, PA and teach remedial reading in a K-5 building.

I have been plateauing for the last four weeks and have fallen off the wagon. I have been reading the threads, but not posting. Life has gotten CRAZY busy. My son is a senior this year so we are at the peak of making a college decision ... along with being involved with our high school musical ... throw in state testing ... :scared1: I feel like I haven't been giving myself the attention I need to lose weight. I have been exercising ... but food is my issue. I need to focus on keeping a good journal and drinking all my water.

I am inspired by the new thread and will be your coach next week! My spring break is next week and this will give me extra time to devote to the thread. Thank you Christopher for coaching last week ... and CC this week.

QOTD for Saturday, 3/24: Aladdin's Genie has granted you one WISH that you have to use on your health. What is one thing that you would like to change immediately, without needing weeks to make it a habit?

My wish would be to walk away from sweets ... in particular cake!!!

Just finished my "long" run (3.27 miles). It was blatantly obvious that I hadn't run in a week. ugh That and I stupidly wore brand new shoes and now have a blister. grr It was a crummy run, but it's over and I can cross that off my list! :cool1:

Sorry your run didn't go well, and :headache: blisters. But don't knock your 3.27miles. I did my long run today too and did 2.4miles!

Easy--I would like to not be sick. Been sick for 'flippin' over a week
Hope you get better susan!

I hope this works. I could not get to the reply screen last night.

QOTD for Sunday, 3/25: What does your schedule look like for the rest of the week? What pre-planning do you need to do to stay on plan?

The one thing I have to do is bring water with me wherever I go. I am at a friend's house now. She threw her boyfriend a birthday party last night and I spent the night. The only water available was tap water and she did not recommend that I drink it. I feel so dehydrated now.

Good morning - it feels so early today!

QOTD for Sunday, 3/25: What does your schedule look like for the rest of the week? What pre-planning do you need to do to stay on plan?

We say goodbye to our California houseguests late this afternoon, and then we have a fairly routine week of school, work, and activities. The big thing on my agenda is to get the girls packed for their spring week at Grandma's house! DH and I are spending the two weekends there, but the girls will stay for the whole week, so I'll need to check some long-range forecasts and figure out how much stuff they'll need, etc. It'll be amazing over spring break week to "only" have to work at our jobs. I don't think I'll cook a thing for dinner that week, which will pose its own challenges. :)

Last night at the Irish pub was great! I had one drink (a glass of wine), a bunch of water and Diet Coke, and an order of fish & chips with most of the breading on the fish pushed aside. We sang along with the band and had an awesome time, and I woke up tired but not hung over (!) and not bloated after a night out. I'm patting myself on the back.

One more massive meal out to go - today's brunch in DC with friends...this has been a challenging weekend! But I did get a C25K workout in yesterday despite the rainy weather - it broke just long enough for me to get out and move, and I think that helped.

Happy Sunday, everyone!

XO

QOTD for Sunday, 3/25: What does your schedule look like for the rest of the week? What pre-planning do you need to do to stay on plan?

I am really looking forward to getting back on track this week.

1. I will plan my dinners and make sure my kitchen is stocked with healthy foods.

2. I will start Jillian Michaels Body Revolution. I will hit it as soon as kiddos and DH walk out the door.

3. I will contact my exercise buddies and make sure that I have at least 3 fun things (tennis, racket ball, long walks, volleyball ect. on the calendar for the week.

4. I will find a race to start training for.

5. I will spend as much time outside as I can working on the yard!

It's going to be a FABULOUS week!

I hope this works. I could not get to the reply screen last night.

The only water available was tap water and she did not recommend that I drink it. I feel so dehydrated now.I always carry my Brita water bottle just for times like this! I hate being stuck without good water

This week is our Spring Break so I am planning a lot of long walks (if the weather stays nice!) We are going out of town for a few days at the end of the week and that scares me! I have my meal routines down when I'm at home but having to eat out can get bad.

I live in a little podunk town with no real restaurants so when we get away I always want to eat all the yummy food that we don't get very often. So my plan is to research all the menu's and have healthier options ready.

Hope you get better susan!

Thanks-- that Oregano oil is helping a lot. And it's making me a little nauseous--yay-finally like a real sick person--I know I didn't eat as much yesterday lol.

I hope this works. I could not get to the reply screen last night.

QOTD for Sunday, 3/25: What does your schedule look like for the rest of the week? What pre-planning do you need to do to stay on plan?

I'm probably working a lot. So I'll lug my vitamins around in my purse I guess, and be sure I bring water for lunch. Give myself a lot of time to cover the cuts and bruises. Oh yeah for those who don't know, to add insult to injury this week an old 50's radio that was on our headboard fell on my face while I was asleep--knocked down by a cat. the cat who did it has a tendency to fall off stuff she's sleeping on (and take the stuff with her) so I think that's what happened.

QOTD: Well, it's our spring break. DS1 left yesterday for Arizona and won't be back until Friday. DS2 is getting back tomorrow from a choir trip to San Francisco (they missed some school for the trip). My walking partner is out of town this week, so there goes my guaranteed 3 mile walk each day. We really don't have any plans for the week. Normally we split it between grandparents' houses, but DH doesn't have any time off and my parents are snowbirding in Arizona (and staying late to watch DS1 play ball). So the week is kind of up in the air. Very unusual for us. I like to have plans! We do need to paint the living/dining rooms and a hall. When the construction crew redid our bathroom we had them fix a patch we'd been hiding with a painting! Couldn't find any matching paint, so we have a multi colored wall! Need to fix that. Our niece had twins 2 months ago and we really want to see them--they live in the same town as in-laws. Who knows what we will do. So I'm just taking it one day at a time. Will probably meal plan/shop tomorrow. Today I'm going to convince DH to take me to the coast. Haven't been in forever and the whales are migrating by so hope we see some!
