Biggest Loser Fall Challenge!

QOTD Wednesday, October 10
If a friend or family member was just starting out on his/her weight loss journey, what advice would you give them?

Give tracking a try - track calories and workouts. I really resisted calorie counting for a very long time. I didn't like that mentality; I didn't want to feel like I had to track for the rest of my life. It made a really big difference for me, and as a bonus, I realized I didn't have to track forever if I didn't want to. I learned what kind of foods fit into a typical weight loss week and later a typical maintain week.

It is hard sometimes to get back to running after walking. I've been e-coaching with Jeff Galloway this year and a lot of time he has me doing 10 seconds/50 seconds on my longer runs because "you can do the long runs too slowly." The shorter walking intervals seem to help and also I don't feel so wrung out towards the end so it is easier to keep going. I am a very slow runner, my Tink time was 4:02.

Have you tried Galloway's glider drills on your short runs? It's supposed to help smooth your transitions. Here is a link to the YouTube video that used to be on the RunDisney site for anyone who is interested. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZC97nMK-Q94

....

A big :cool1: and :yay: to all our superstars and especially to our Biggest Loser, bellaally! And another :cool1: for Nicole our maintainer.
First off, thank you! :)
Second, I haven't tried those drills - thanks for posting. I actually have more trouble slowing down again - or at least slowing smoothly. This is nitpicky, but for a run segment, is the transition acceleration and then gliding to slow down part of the 10 second interval you do? Or do you accelerate in the interval and glide slow down at the start of your next walk segment?

There were a few foods that I couldn't imagine living without 5 years ago.... and most of them are RARELY part of my diet any more. I have discovered that they are JUST NOT worth the calories.... or in some cases I can limit myself to having that food much less often.... or less of it when I do splurge (things like movie popcorn, ice cream, wine, french fries, onion rings). But if someone told me 5 years ago that I had to stop eating these things totally, I would have probably given up before I even started.
Excellent point! I agree that feeling dread about giving up something forever is too daunting. Portion size or eating that treat food less often is okay.

So excited :)

I was actually able to walk on the treadmill tonight for 30 minutes with NO PAIN!!! My left foot is a little sore now that I am home but I can deal with that...it has been almost a full month since I have been able to do any exercise!!!! Woot Woot!!
Congrats! That is exciting!

Good morning :) I wanted to end my coaching week with another fun question. I hope you all have a great Thursday!

QOTD Thursday, October 11

Do you have any pets? If yes, what kind and what are their names? Do you have any funny stories about your pets?
Thanks for coaching!
We don't have any pets. Before we had DD we had hoped to get a dog, but honestly, we are hardly ever home and I'm allergic to lots of animals.

Pamela, sending you oodles of pixiedust: and good thoughts about your poor eye. Please do get it checked out soon. You take such good care of everyone else. Time to take care of you! :flower3: Can you call the eye doctor and see what they think you should do?

Peple came from Petco when DS was 7. (All of our other 4 foots have come from shelters). They are very long lived so you are smart to let your DD get one when she is on her own. :goodvibes He is a good pet and has a personality like all pets do. He will hiss at you like a snake if he is mad. :rotfl:

MB sounds like you have two sweet pups who have found a wonderful loving home. :love:

Carla Rae, love all your sweet pets. You're lucky that you survived that dirty look from pirate Bella! pirate: Do Charlie and Angel get along? This is the first time that I remember someone else having a turtle pet on the BL thread.

I'll add my 2 cents on the 5K question you posted. One reason to consider the January 5K is that the big, big WISH meet is that week-end. It's Friday late afternoon and there are over 100 people there. If you ever wanted to meet a lot of the WISH folk, that is your chance. The other races do have smaller meets. I'm always happy to meet another WISHer or disboards person because they are all so dang nice. :teeth:

Jaina, hope you are feeling better soon! :flower3:

Michelle, Bandit looks like a sweet kitty and I have to say nice pants! :smickey:

First off, thank you! :)
Second, I haven't tried those drills - thanks for posting. I actually have more trouble slowing down again - or at least slowing smoothly. This is nitpicky, but for a run segment, is the transition acceleration and then gliding to slow down part of the 10 second interval you do? Or do you accelerate in the interval and glide slow down at the start of your next walk segment?

I had the same problem smoothly transitioning from the run to the walk -- I would almost stop and it is jarring to do that over and over. Makes your legs hurt, too. What I do is accelerate as soon as the beep goes off for the 10 second interval. I can get to running fairly quickly and get in about 12 steps -- I count periodically to make sure I'm getting the turnover and also to distract myself when needed. I keep running until I hear the beep for the walking portion, then I transition to the gliding and slowing down. So part of the walking is really gliding from the run. I still feel recovered by the time I run again because my running segment was only 10 seconds so it is easier to start running again.

For my 10k on Sunday I am doing 10 second/30 second intervals for the first two or three miles and then switching to 10 second/20 second intervals for the rest. If I am feeling particularly speedy I might run part of the last mile or two but finishing strong is one of those things I am still working on. :upsidedow I'm hoping for a time in the 1:40s.

I had an important omission in my post about what Galloway says about the long run. What he says is YOU CAN'T DO YOUR LONG RUNS TOO SLOWLY. I went back and edited so it is correct now. :scared:

So I had my first "real" boot camp class last night. Well, any allusions I had that my body fat % meant I was in good shape were quickly dashed! The truth is that I need to tone. In all my running, my arms and core have been neglected. Like spongy noodles. I am one of the thinner ones in the class, but also one of the ones really struggling with planks and overhead lifting. They say not to compare but I couldn't help but notice other people seemed to be struggling less.

I've never done a fitness class before and this one seems targeted to my weaknesses-- which is great. There aren't any gyms close enough to my house that I think I would get my money's worth. Running works for me because I don't have to do anything but tie on my shoes and get out the door. But I would love to tone up in other areas and so I'm thinking this class might be what I was looking for.

Tonight is a running night and I'm actually looking forward to being back in my element! I'm going forward training for the Princess 1/2 even though I'm not signed up yet. My sister does want to run, but she doesn't have the money to sign up right now. I am going to try and convince our dad to make it an early Christmas present for her.

Do you have any pets? If yes, what kind and what are their names? Do you have any funny stories about your pets?

Yep. Since I'm an only child, I have one cat for companionship; a 3 year old Calico that was rescued as an 8 week old kitten with her brothers and sisters. They were adopted out fairly quickly, but she had an over-active tear duct that requires a little extra care so no one adopted her until she was 9 months old when I adopted her. Her 'official' name is Jenny (named after the Doctor's daughter on Doctor Who) but mainly we call her 'Mimi' or 'Dut'. (don't ask...) She doesn't respond to either of them anyway. :rolleyes2

As for funny stories, I've already mentioned the 'me trying to kill a roach' story where she tried to help me catch a giant cockroach in the house. :rotfl: Last week, she jumped about 4 feet straight up when she got scared by the bathroom rug shifting while she was stalking. (We laughed about that for the next hour) The other day, I bought her a kicking toy since she loves to kick her toys with her back feet and she's been playing with it ever since.

Here's a pic:
Mimi3.jpg

We have 2 miniature long haired piebald colored daschunds named.. Oscar (boy) & Maya (girl). Yes we're corny. If you scroll almost to the bottom on this website to where it says "Snugglebug Carrier" they are the two models... This was their only "modeling gig" ;) They are going to be 4 in November.

They're so cute! I'm not much of a dog person, but for a dog that cute, I could definitely change my mind. :love:

And the most interesting to most people are my boys. We have 4 gliders all named after Disney characters. The white one is Oswald. The one in the middle is Raja and the twins are Timothy and Sebastian.

5X7gliders_zps90fdfcfd.jpg

And yes they do have "wings". Here is a pic of baby Timmy with his "wings" out.
DSCN1758.jpg

HOW CUTE!! For some reason, the picture of Oswald makes me all giggly! :goodvibes

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Busy day today! DGrandpa offered to let me come clean his house for some extra money, so I went over there early to start cleaning and got the whole house vacuumed, 2 loads of laundry done and the bathroom deep cleaned. I swear you could eat off that toilet now (although I don't recommend it... ;) )
Anyways, in taking a break from cleaning, I had a chance to call back a potential job that had called yesterday while I was at work but wasn't able to call back until today. Well, long story short, they did my initial screening right there and asked me to come in for an interview today!! :scared1: So I rushed home (my aunt offered to finish the last load of laundry for me) changed clothes and ran off to the interview. Needless to say, I was more than a little nervous. Anyways, I mentioned that wouldn't be able to start working until after my Disney trip to which she got excited and asked if it was my first one. We spent the next 5 minutes talking about Disney World which was a really good ice breaker. :thumbsup2
I still have to wait a little bit for them to do some more interviews to see if I get the job, but my interview seemed to go pretty good so we're hoping! :hyper:
Hope everyone has a good weigh-in tomorrow!
Sorry, I don't post a lot on the thread, just don't have the time for much posting at the moment. But I wanted to say thank you for everyone who replied to the recent QOTDs about what you would advise to someone who is just starting to lose weight and about the plateau. I have been working on my weight loss for quite some time, but all your advise was so motivating!! Really gave me a boost!! So also thank you very much to our coach for asking these great questions!
Thanks! I'm so glad the advice is helpful for you. I needed it too this week. Keep moving forward and post when you can!
You did just fine! Thanks for coaching!
I'm a cat person. If I lived alone I would definitely be a crazy old cat lady!:rotfl: I have one cat at the moment..... had her for about 6 years now. Her real name is Lucky but we call her Schmoopy. Basically, she was living under the neighbor's shed with her kitten one summer. They took in the kitten but refused to take the mother. (We were pretty sure they weren't feral, as they did approach folks in the yard cautiously.) I couldn't let her spend the winter under the shed, so in November we caught her and took her home. She is TRULY one of the absolute sweetest kitties we have ever had!
We had mice over the summer.... DD brought them home from the lab at school. One died in August, the other died 2 weeks ago. And she had guinea pigs for a few years. It was heart breaking when they died.... but we are long past the age of "needing" small furry rodent pets! ::yes::
Last night's dinner was delish, as usual! I love that recipe! Here it is for anyone who might be interested! Post #35
http://disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2447512&page=3
Off to make breakfast! TTYL....................P
Thanks for the positive words!
Aww...your Schoompy is so lucky that you took her in. She sounds like a sweetie.
Thanks for the link to the recipe. It sounds delish! Hope you had a good day scrapping!
As for funny stories, every day is a funny story with those two.
Maya is the crazy one and Oscar is kind of a lazy boy... until there are deer or bear or foxes in the backyard and then he springs to life and barks at them through the sliding glass door. My husband says he's not lazy- just conserving energy for times like these ;) Maya on the other hand--She's the lookout for food or any action, she sleeps with one eye open-- sometimes literally. She's definitely more active and even though she's only 9.5 lbs- she can leap from the floor to the top/back of the couch in a single bound. We don't know how she does it, and we've checked her feet for springs ;)
Oh my, how cute! They sound like they are a perfect pair.
Jill, what a trouper you are coaching while amidst the chaos. Hope everyone in your house is feeling better soon! :flower3: Thank you for coaching this week! :thanks: You've been a great coach!
We have a black labrador, Sadie, a tuxedo cat, Wally, and Peple the Party Turtle
We call him Peple the Party Turtle because he always has various holiday decorations above the tank in the family room. Our pets are definitely part of the family. :love:
Thanks for the kind words. Today was a tad less crazy!
I love black labs. I wanted one when we were looking for a new dog, but DH isn't a lab fan. He wanted something smaller. Do your dog & cat get along? And, love the turtle. DSs want a small pet of their own & are pushing for a turtle or fish. Are turtles easy pets? I'm worried about cleaning the tank!
:offtopic: Well friends.... it would appear that my self-diagnosis of a particle in my eye last weekend was WRONG! Shortly after getting up this morning I started with some aching in that same eye (so I immediately removed my contacts and put on my glasses).... then the weeping and redness and now I've added the light sensitivity. :mad: I"m mad at myself for not getting it checked earlier this week (even though it was totally fine on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday...:confused3). Now I am home today with no car, so I can't go see the doctor. DD has swim tonight, so I"m not sure I could even fit in an appointment tonight, since DH is away. I am scheduled to work tomorrow and really do NOT want to call in sick... but if this eye gets worse I may have no choice.
I do NOT have time for this aggravation.
Back on topic::thumbsup2
Anyhow..... at my Bible study this week we were talking about ways to change the dialogue in your head.... you know, that voice that tells you to "go ahead and eat the other brownie. You've already blown it today!" Or when it tells you... "It is a SPECIAL occasion! How many chances do you get to eat birthday cake?? You've had a tough week....you DESERVE it!"
We had a good time coming up with alternative statements like.... "I DESERVE to be strong and healthy!" and "Your next bite is a chance to get it RIGHT!" THat has truly been a struggle for me at times and we came up with some great ways to change that dialogue. One of the statements in the book we are using is "I was made for more." And we WERE!! We were all made for more..... more health, more strength, more happiness, more positive changes! What were you made for MORE of??? ........................P
How is your eye? I hope you get it taken care of ASAP! Thanks for sharing about your Bible study group. I love all the alternative ideas.
Two pups - Jiko is just over a year old and we've had him since he was six weeks old. He's a rescue (Chow mix) and yes he's named after the restaurant. Meeko is our newest addition, another rescue. He's ten months old and we've had him about a month now. He's adorable but was clearly abused in his previous home (found wandering on the street by our vet). He also definitely lives up to his name - he's very crafty but a total love muffin.
How great of you to rescue your furry friends. They are so lucky!
Now this is a question I can write pages one!! :rotfl2: Currently we have 9 critters and a fish tank. All their names are in my siggie.
We have a sheltie named Misty. She turned 8 last month. Here is a pic from her 3rd birthday. I love it cause you know trouble is about to happen! ;) (And yes each critter wears a hat on his/her birthday and they dress for Halloween and sometimes other holidays. :p)
The cat in that pic is Adonis (we call him Donny).
Then we have Bella dressed as Jack Sparrow. She is a handful and a real pain in the butt!
Then we have 2 Red Ear Sliders, Charlie and Angel
And the most interesting to most people are my boys. We have 4 gliders all named after Disney characters. The white one is Oswald. The one in the middle is Raja and the twins are Timothy and Sebastian.
And yes they do have "wings". Here is a pic of baby Timmy with his "wings" out.
As for funny stories, we had ferrets for years. (Our last one died maybe 4 years ago.) People dont realize how smart ferrets are. We dh and were in college we lived in a basement apartment. We had a gate across the bottom of the stairs so the ferrets couldn't get to the front door or the upstairs neighbor. At that time we had one adult female (Emlie), one adult male (Tobey) and a newborn male (Nibblet). The upstairs neighbor kept calling us because she would keep getting a visitor, Emlie. The gate was secure (and ferret climbing proof), so we had no idea how she kept getting over it. After like the 10th escape, we put a mirror up so we could watch her without her realizing it (she would never do it if we were around). We watched her take the large adult male and drag him in front of the gate. Then she went back and dragged the baby and put him on top of the male and then got a running start and CLIMBED HER BROTHERS! They gave her enough height she could grab the top of the gate and hoist herself over. :rotfl2: She was a problem solver. We also had to use KEYED luggage locks to lock her cage at night or she would open the door and run free. We would actually put the key out of reach of the cage, because we were convinced if she could get to the key she would figure out how to unlock a lock!
We have a Charlie and an Angel so I am right there with ya!
I live all your pets! Gliders are so cool! Are they easy pets or do they need lots of attention? Your ferret story is hilarious. You should've gotten a video & sent it to Americas Funniest Videos. You could have won with that!
I don't technically have any pets, but we're living in my parents' basement right now, and they have a Labrador, chickens, cockatiels, and parakeets. I grew up with every pet imaginable at one time or another, including a few horses, lots of cats, rabbits, mice, even snakes! (Thankfully my snakes were never big enough to have any connection with the mice...) When we have our own place again (that allows pets) I think we'll go with either a hamster or a cockatiel at first. I want my kids to be around animals, but my husband doesn't enjoy them at all, so I'll have to compromise a little...
I enjoy reading all your posts and hearing about your struggles and successes! I had a rough week last week. Very emotional and hormonal. Add in a birthday and I ate WAY too much sugar and over ate in general. I have had a great couple of healthy, calorie-counting days and am eating almost no sugar. I have already lost 2 lbs and am hoping for at least one more to get back down where I was the week before! I am wishing for an additional lb, but we'll just have to see what my body thinks. I am also getting a cold, which should suppress my appetite a little if I can just get through this early scratchy-throat phase without soothing it with salty chips...
That's quite a collection of animals! I've never been a bird person. Plus, my cat & dog would not appreciate a bird in their territory! Good luck with the weigh in & good job getting back on track!
I once came home and he'd figured out how to spin the lazy susan cupboard and helped himself to tons of stuff - flour, sugar, dry pasta, peanut butter .. but BREAD was his fave! had to keep in the fridge when he was around.. we had to put him down the end of Sept 2011 .. here is a fave pic of mine for when we took him camping in 2008.. miss you buddy boy!
Aww...such cuties! Beagles are such smartie pants.
Hello everyone! I loved reading all about your pets. Now I will share mine. We have a black cat named Puffy. I adopted him at a year old from an elderly neighbor of mine who's wife had a stroke & they had to move to a small, one story apartment. My funniest story with Puffy was a time he decided to catch a chipmunk & bring it into the house through the doggy door. Except, it was still alive & he let it go. We didn't know. So a few days later, DH is freaking out because the shoe/coat closet smells & he knows it's my running shoes. So, I start pulling out everyone's shoes to prove mine don't stink. I pick up a shoe & find a dead chipmunk. Yep. It smelled. But, I proved DH wrong about my shoes & I love being right :)
We also have a dog (Australian cattle dog mix~red heeler) named Charlie. We rescued her from a kill shelter. DH wanted a medium sized dog (to be scary) since he works midnight every weekend. Her funny story still cracks me up. Our backyard is fenced as is our neighbor's. The neighbor has a dog also. He leaves his back storm door propped open & the dog can open & close it to go in & out. One day shortly after we got our dog, I walked into my kitchen & looked out the window. My dog was in my neighbor's yard & the neighbor was sitting there feeding her treats. I got her leash & went to get her. I apologized for her jumping the fence & he laughed. I was confused & he said he actually found her IN HIS house!!! She jumped the fence, opened the back door of his house & went in just like his dog did lol! The poor neighbor's dog ran upstairs & hid under a bed lol. We tell everyone that our dog is smarter than DH & I combined!
I want to thank everyone for the support during my week of coaching. Keep up the good work!
Jill
Hi all,
Sorry I have been MIA this week! Lots going on! Working 6 straight days and running errands between appts and volunteering! DD12 has been having a rough week with school and feeling a bit down. Also concerned she may be anemic. Keeping an eye on her. She and DH went to a place called Witch's Woods about 5 minutes from our house. They had a really good time though Ash thought it was scary. Brian said it was very good and in some ways like Halloween Horror Nights at Universal. He was quite impressed!
Belledreamer and all other Doctor Who fans: Guess what I am being for Halloween? THE TARDIS! Ashley Eckstein is the voice of Ahsoka on the Clone Wars on Cartoon Network. She has a line of sicfi clothing for women and girls. She just released some new items including a Tardis dress! Hoping it arrives in the mail tomorrow! I'm going to wear blue or black leggings with it and make some kind of light to wear on my head. Gotta work on putting that together the next two weeks! Very excited! If you want to see what it looks like visit heruniverse dot com!
Gave 3 massages today so I skipped my workout. I did well food wise as well for the most part. I was down 2 pounds this morning from Monday so I'm satisfied. I'm going to try and get up in the morning to do the elliptical. I have 2 massages to give tomorrow and 2 on Saturday. Gotta finally book Izzie's birthday party tomorrow morning before going into work. Time is going by so fast that I haven't had time and every day when I try to do it something else comes up that has to take precedence! But that will be first on the agenda tomorrow!
Time to get something to drink!
Have a great night!
Do you have any pets? If yes, what kind and what are their names? Do you have any funny stories about your pets?
I have a 17 year old cat I got as a rescue cat when she was just 1 year old. Her name is Lacey and she has had a stroke, has a cataract in one eye and has just a few teeth. The vet keeps telling me she should not still be around since she is an orange tabby. Apparently female orange tabbys are pretty rare and don't live long. I had stairs built for her to get on and off the bed.
She has done some really funny things. When I first moved to Texas she was really good about finding the huge Palmeto bugs (flying cockroaches) and placing them in a row right where I put my feet getting out of bed. Of course she would only do this when I had to go away overnight for more than 2 nights, letting me know she was not happy about being left alone. She has also put her cat toys in my suitcase before when I was doing alot of traveling.
She really hates men, I got her right when I was going through a bad divorce and my ex was not the nicest person to animals. BUT when I was dating my DH the first time he came over to my house she was right there curling around his legs and acting like she was HIS cat. I knew then he was a keeper.
DH and I work different schedules so he goes to bed at 6pm and I go to bed at 10pm. At 5 mins till 6 if he is not making moves to go to the bedroom she sits at his feet and crys at him until he pays attention and stops what he is doing and off to bed they go. On his days off she is curled up beside me on the couch and ignores him. It is so very funny.
If a friend or family member was just starting out on his/her weight loss journey, what advice would you give them?
I'll be back later with replies. Have a healthy day :)
Jill
Mine would be ... it didn't come on overnight and it is not going to go away overnight! It takes small steps and you need to make life changes instead of "diet" changes.
YAY What a great week - Congrats to everyone especially Alexandra! :cheer2:Keep up the hard work - anything worth having is worth working hard for and that is my motto for this challenge (and it's working I was #6 this week!)
Well first I say you didn't get that way overnight so don't expect it all to just drop off.. then I say I love you and I know you can do it!:cheer2:
good views here on not DIET but Lifestyle change altho when people ask me I just say I'm taking better care of myself - watching what I eat, being more active and lovin life.. I love this little (or big) group thanks so much to all of you for posting (either everyday or whenever you can) I always find motivation, inspriation, and great advise and encouragement..
and with that I declared today no diet eat what i've been craving day as it's my bday and I have been enjoying what I want in moderation! (had eggs for breakfast and white bread for lunch along with a sinfully delish 1/2 of a whoopie pie and my hubs is making us steak dinner on the grill - steak, fingerling potatoes and green beans!) to balance this I picked up an extra Zumba class on Friday.. And even though I had to get up early and come to work it's been a great day so far .. So happy Hump day friends see you all tomorrow - lunch break is over! :(
:rainbow: Happy Birthday! I hope you have a great day!
Good morning :) I wanted to end my coaching week with another fun question. I hope you all have a great Thursday!
QOTD Thursday, October 11
Do you have any pets? If yes, what kind and what are their names? Do you have any funny stories about your pets?
I'll be back later to hear all about your animal families.
Jill
We have one cat (at this moment). Her name is Sparkles. She is my middle son's cat ... Santa brought her one Christmas after being at the top of his Christmas gift for a few years. We love her. She is NOT the smartest cat in the world.
Actually we have a "kind of" funny story happening with her right now. Sparkles is an inside cat. We have a neighborhood cat who keeps coming up to our window and looking in. Sparkles of course decides to defend her house. Now ... she is a very small cat and the outdoor cat is huge! Sparkles keeps attacking the window on the inside ... and the outdoor cat keeps attacking the window on the outside. We chase the outdoor cat away, but this has been going on about every other night lately. Sparkles just acts crazy and we can't get anywhere near her. I don't know what she is thinking because this cat would eat her as an appetizer!
We have had 3 hamsters and fish.
We loved our hamsters. They were great pets. A funny story about one of our hamsters ... his name was Speedy. He was 2 years old (which is old for a hamster). Well, he got sick with a tumor and was dragging himself in his cage. I can't stand to see anything suffer and told my husband. He said, I can take him outside and put him out of his misery with my shoe. I said, "NO way! You can't do that". I am going to take him to the vet.
So, I take him to the vet and they take him and put him to sleep. They give him back to me in my little shoe box all bundled up and ready to be placed in our backyard for burial. The vet didn't even charge me which I thought was very kind. Well, when I got home and told my husband how nice they were at the vet, he looked me straight in the eye and said, "You know they probably went out back with a shoe ... ". I hit him and walked away! (But, I thought to myself ... maybe they did.)
Good luck on the scale tomorrow everyone!
Happy Friday friends! First of all, hope everyone has good news on the scales. If not, what are you going to change this week? Where could you make improvements? What was your downfall this week? Or maybe you had a GREAT week, but the scale number isn't reflecting that. What OTHER way could you measure your success this week?
I had a small gain, but considering what I ate last weekend, I consider it a success! :lmao:
I'm at work today and my eye is even worse. I've already called the doctor and made an appointment for after school. I asked about leaving early, but they are short-handed already today. I'll just keep my fingers crossed that the day goes by quickly and that the afternoon class has a movie planned! :thumbsup2
Even though it was a short week, we are all saying TGIF here! I'll pop on during the day if I have time! TTYL......P
Mornin everyone! (= What a great Friday!! I managed to remember this morning before I headed out the door to climb up on my scale and see the results. I lost 4 lbs this week! Hooray! I'm considering starting my Insanity workout on Monday so that I make sure and exercise daily, to be honest I'm lacking motivation. =/ Hopefully by Monday I'll be mindset on my goal and work hard to achieve it. Happy weekend all and don't splurge too much!
We have a 12.5 year old black standard poodle named Louis. When he was still a puppy we took the kids and dog and headed out to a lake for an afternoon of some fun. He had a great time running around off leash and after a bit he saw a duck. Well, hallalujah, there was some fun for him. He went tearing off after the poor thing who was waddling as fast as her legs could carry her quacking like crazy. What the dog didn't realize was there was a little embankment/drop into the water. The duck just hit the edge and started flying. Louis hit the edge and dropped into the water. That's how he learned to swim!
Furlough day today for the school district so I have the day off! :cool1: I have been retained for yet another week at the job I am subbing. I love the job, but not so happy to be working quite so much. I just keep telling myself it is paying for the new tires our car needed! ;)
I walked at 5:30 AM and again at 7 AM so had 6 miles under my belt before 8 AM! Then didn't even go into the house but opened the garage and took back some refundable bottles/cans. Glad to have some of those gone. Since the neighbors give them to us for DS2's trip this summer, I am going to make him go with me this afternoon to return the rest. Pretty sure he wants to see his girlfriend today; this will be "payment" for the drive to her house! I've had my breakfast while cruising dis listening to d-cot (just love it!) and now am about to hit Costco. We will see DS1 this weekend and he is begging for cases of bottled water to keep in his dorm room.
Yesterday DH and I got all the apples off the tree since it is supposed to start raining. :( Now I have to sort them into ones for applesauce and ones to give to our friends with horses.
On another thread I have been "walking to Disney" and I am only 1.5 miles away from Disneyland. very excited :cool1: Less then a month until we go, so I am very glad to have "walked" there before the actual trip.
Have a super, healthy weekend!
So weigh in was not what I wanted this morning (up .8) but I guess not horrible. I think I have just cut out too much food and my calorie count is just too low and I know better because if I am 1 hour late for a meal my body goes into starvation mode! :lmao:
I think know that I feel like I can start working out again I won't have such a fear of eating. I get so worried about the number of calories I am eating and want to loose weight NOW so I am terrible about eating too little.
Hope everyone else had a better week than I did :)
Yes, I have a cat of my own who is around 16 years old, and one sugar glider who is eight. He used to be one of five gliders that I had, but they passed one by one and now he is alone.
I don't particularly like either one of my pets, though. The cat is a huge pain in my butt. If any little thing in her world is amiss she decides to pee on my stuff. When I came back from Disney World she decided to let me know how she felt about my leaving by peeing on my run bag. Can't tell you the number of suitcases, shoes, and purses she has destroyed. I don't have the heart to kick her out of the house though, she's just so old now. I am convinced cats are the most evil animals on the planet. And my sugar glider is not bad, just not a great domesticated kind of pet. I got my first sugar glider ten years ago when I thought it would be fun to have an animal that was awake all night to play with me. Now, not so much! But I am committed to them for their lives, for better or worse.
I did have a pet I truly loved, my Great Dane, but she passed away last year.
Since then I have been fostering dogs and puppies for a local rescue group. Right now I have a little dog and her six puppies, currently seven weeks old. They are cute and a lot of fun. I am a dog person but it will be a few years before I can handle those vet bills again.
My run last night went great! I ran faster than I ever have, by far. 9:35 minute mile (for 45 minutes). It was a lot cooler out last night so maybe that's why. I really noticed how less the humidity seemed.
My weigh in today was spectacular crazy good. According to the scale I'm a little more than 4 pounds less than I was a week ago. I think part of it was that I was really bloated and "fluffy" after eating Disney style for a week, and then getting sick didn't help. And part of it is that I kicked it into high gear exercising this week. Or maybe all the Disney food was a kick starter for my metabolism? Who knows, but I'll take it after two weeks of slight gains.
Afternoon everyone!! ::MickeyMo
I haven't been on the thread in forever so I thought I'd update you on why I'm celebrating today. :)
I got on the scale and I'm down 40 pounds (since May 2010). 31 of those pounds I've lost since living here in sunny FL!! :)
Oh and I finally got into those 16Ws that I bought months ago!! They're snug so I need to lose a few more pounds so they're comfortable.
Everyone have a great weekend!! :)
HI we are down to just 1 kitty.. he is almost 16 his name is Bandit - we call him bandy.. here is his pic from April 2012 as I was getting ready for my a Disney Tripand this was our beloved beagle Copper - we go him when he was 1 (in the fall of 2002), he had no people or house skills but was crate trained.. took me about 6 months to train him. not saying that he didn't run away or eat everything he could get into!!! haaa... I once came home and he'd figured out how to spin the lazy susan cupboard and helped himself to tons of stuff - flour, sugar, dry pasta, peanut butter .. but BREAD was his fave! had to keep in the fridge when he was around.. we had to put him down the end of Sept 2011 .. here is a fave pic of mine for when we took him camping in 2008.. miss you buddy boy!
Sweet looking babies!!
So I had my first "real" boot camp class last night. Well, any allusions I had that my body fat % meant I was in good shape were quickly dashed! The truth is that I need to tone. In all my running, my arms and core have been neglected. Like spongy noodles. I am one of the thinner ones in the class, but also one of the ones really struggling with planks and overhead lifting. They say not to compare but I couldn't help but notice other people seemed to be struggling less.
I've never done a fitness class before and this one seems targeted to my weaknesses-- which is great. There aren't any gyms close enough to my house that I think I would get my money's worth. Running works for me because I don't have to do anything but tie on my shoes and get out the door. But I would love to tone up in other areas and so I'm thinking this class might be what I was looking for.
Tonight is a running night and I'm actually looking forward to being back in my element! I'm going forward training for the Princess 1/2 even though I'm not signed up yet. My sister does want to run, but she doesn't have the money to sign up right now. I am going to try and convince our dad to make it an early Christmas present for her.
The Christmas gift idea sounds great! What a WONDERFUL healthy gift!
Don't worry about the lack of upper body fitness.... it will come along! And I'll bet you could outrun any of those other folks!!
Yep. Since I'm an only child, I have one cat for companionship; a 3 year old Calico that was rescued as an 8 week old kitten with her brothers and sisters. They were adopted out fairly quickly, but she had an over-active tear duct that requires a little extra care so no one adopted her until she was 9 months old when I adopted her. Her 'official' name is Jenny (named after the Doctor's daughter on Doctor Who) but mainly we call her 'Mimi' or 'Dut'. (don't ask...) She doesn't respond to either of them anyway.
As for funny stories, I've already mentioned the 'me trying to kill a roach' story where she tried to help me catch a giant cockroach in the house. :rotfl: Last week, she jumped about 4 feet straight up when she got scared by the bathroom rug shifting while she was stalking. (We laughed about that for the next hour) The other day, I bought her a kicking toy since she loves to kick her toys with her back feet and she's been playing with it ever since.
My kitty definitely loves those big furry kicking toys too!
Busy day today! DGrandpa offered to let me come clean his house for some extra money, so I went over there early to start cleaning and got the whole house vacuumed, 2 loads of laundry done and the bathroom deep cleaned. I swear you could eat off that toilet now (although I don't recommend it...)
Anyways, in taking a break from cleaning, I had a chance to call back a potential job that had called yesterday while I was at work but wasn't able to call back until today. Well, long story short, they did my initial screening right there and asked me to come in for an interview today!! :scared1: So I rushed home (my aunt offered to finish the last load of laundry for me) changed clothes and ran off to the interview. Needless to say, I was more than a little nervous. Anyways, I mentioned that wouldn't be able to start working until after my Disney trip to which she got excited and asked if it was my first one. We spent the next 5 minutes talking about Disney World which was a really good ice breaker. :thumbsup2
I still have to wait a little bit for them to do some more interviews to see if I get the job, but my interview seemed to go pretty good so we're hoping! :hyper:
Hope everyone has a good weigh-in tomorrow!
Fingers crossed for the possible new job!
Aww...your Schoompy is so lucky that you took her in. She sounds like a sweetie.
She really is!
Thanks for the link to the recipe. It sounds delish! Hope you had a good day scrapping!
Dinner was delish.... as were the leftovers for lunch today! And any day spent scrapping is usually a good day!!
How is your eye? I hope you get it taken care of ASAP! Thanks for sharing about your Bible study group. I love all the alternative ideas.
Got an eye doctor appointment for 4:15 today. But of COURSE, now that I made the appointment, it is feeling better! :confused3
Hello everyone! I loved reading all about your pets. Now I will share mine. We have a black cat named Puffy. I adopted him at a year old from an elderly neighbor of mine who's wife had a stroke & they had to move to a small, one story apartment. My funniest story with Puffy was a time he decided to catch a chipmunk & bring it into the house through the doggy door. Except, it was still alive & he let it go. We didn't know. So a few days later, DH is freaking out because the shoe/coat closet smells & he knows it's my running shoes. So, I start pulling out everyone's shoes to prove mine don't stink. I pick up a shoe & find a dead chipmunk. Yep. It smelled. But, I proved DH wrong about my shoes & I love being right :)
We had a cat do that once.... but we were able to catch the critter before he hung around the house too long!!
We also have a dog (Australian cattle dog mix~red heeler) named Charlie. We rescued her from a kill shelter. DH wanted a medium sized dog (to be scary) since he works midnight every weekend. Her funny story still cracks me up. Our backyard is fenced as is our neighbor's. The neighbor has a dog also. He leaves his back storm door propped open & the dog can open & close it to go in & out. One day shortly after we got our dog, I walked into my kitchen & looked out the window. My dog was in my neighbor's yard & the neighbor was sitting there feeding her treats. I got her leash & went to get her. I apologized for her jumping the fence & he laughed. I was confused & he said he actually found her IN HIS house!!! She jumped the fence, opened the back door of his house & went in just like his dog did lol! The poor neighbor's dog ran upstairs & hid under a bed lol. We tell everyone that our dog is smarter than DH & I combined!
I want to thank everyone for the support during my week of coaching. Keep up the good work!
Jill
Our neighbor's dog used to make a beeline for our house any time she got away. Not sure why, as we don't have any dogs or any dog treats!
Hi all,
Sorry I have been MIA this week! Lots going on! Working 6 straight days and running errands between appts and volunteering! DD12 has been having a rough week with school and feeling a bit down. Also concerned she may be anemic. Keeping an eye on her.
Fingers crossed that she is okay.
She and DH went to a place called Witch's Woods about 5 minutes from our house. They had a really good time though Ash thought it was scary. Brian said it was very good and in some ways like Halloween Horror Nights at Universal. He was quite impressed!
Belledreamer and all other Doctor Who fans: Guess what I am being for Halloween? THE TARDIS! Ashley Eckstein is the voice of Ahsoka on the Clone Wars on Cartoon Network. She has a line of sicfi clothing for women and girls. She just released some new items including a Tardis dress! Hoping it arrives in the mail tomorrow! I'm going to wear blue or black leggings with it and make some kind of light to wear on my head. Gotta work on putting that together the next two weeks! Very excited! If you want to see what it looks like visit heruniverse dot com!
Can't wait to see a picture of this!!
Gave 3 massages today so I skipped my workout. I did well food wise as well for the most part. I was down 2 pounds this morning from Monday so I'm satisfied. I'm going to try and get up in the morning to do the elliptical. I have 2 massages to give tomorrow and 2 on Saturday. Gotta finally book Izzie's birthday party tomorrow morning before going into work. Time is going by so fast that I haven't had time and every day when I try to do it something else comes up that has to take precedence! But that will be first on the agenda tomorrow!
Time to get something to drink!
Have a great night!
TTFN :tigger:
Busy, busy, as usual!
I have a 17 year old cat I got as a rescue cat when she was just 1 year old. Her name is Lacey and she has had a stroke, has a cataract in one eye and has just a few teeth. The vet keeps telling me she should not still be around since she is an orange tabby. Apparently female orange tabbys are pretty rare and don't live long. I had stairs built for her to get on and off the bed.
She has done some really funny things. When I first moved to Texas she was really good about finding the huge Palmeto bugs (flying cockroaches) and placing them in a row right where I put my feet getting out of bed. I was thinking a similar thing to your husband when one of our mice was definitely on her way out recently. I really wanted to save her some suffering, but didn't have the heart to "take her out" and I REFUSE to pay the vet to put her down. Thankfully she didn't linger long.
That .8 could just be bloat! Drink your water, watch your salt, and I bet it will vanish! You MUST EAT at least a minimal number of calories (probably around 1000, depending on your size) to keep your metabolism firing! No food = no fire in the furnace!
And part of it is that I kicked it into high gear exercising this week. Or maybe all the Disney food was a kick starter for my metabolism? Who knows, but I'll take it after two weeks of slight gains.
Sorry your cat is a PITA. But nice of you to realize it is a lifelong commitment.
Major WOOHOO on the weight loss! I often have a great loss after a vacation gain..I think the change in eating really shakes up the metabolism.
Afternoon everyone!! ::MickeyMo
I haven't been on the thread in forever so I thought I'd update you on why I'm celebrating today. :)
I got on the scale and I'm down 40 pounds (since May 2010). 31 of those pounds I've lost since living here in sunny FL!! :)
Oh and I finally got into those 16Ws that I bought months ago!! They're snug so I need to lose a few more pounds so they're comfortable.
Everyone have a great weekend!! :)
Congratulations! That is a wonderful milestone! So proud of you! :)
OUT OF TIME!! Be back later tonight!!!!!!!!!...........P
********* sorry I never made it back yesterday!.....P
That is AWESOME! Congrats!!!! party:
Yes, I have a cat of my own who is around 16 years old, and one sugar glider who is eight. He used to be one of five gliders that I had, but they passed one by one and now he is alone.
Another glider person!! I know what you mean about not liking them sometimes, they are so much work and so friggin loud! Their food requirements alone take me 2 to 4 hours on sundays (i measure and cut produce for the week). And of course 6 am is wake up time regardless of the day! But with a 25 year life span, I am in it for the long haul too! :lmao:
Congrats on the milestone! And congrats about the pants. My current pants are to big as well, but i am too nervous to drag the older smaller stuff out. Hate to get my hopes up then have them not fit!
I had the same problem smoothly transitioning from the run to the walk -- I would almost stop and it is jarring to do that over and over. Makes your legs hurt, too. What I do is accelerate as soon as the beep goes off for the 10 second interval. I can get to running fairly quickly and get in about 12 steps -- I count periodically to make sure I'm getting the turnover and also to distract myself when needed. I keep running until I hear the beep for the walking portion, then I transition to the gliding and slowing down. So part of the walking is really gliding from the run. I still feel recovered by the time I run again because my running segment was only 10 seconds so it is easier to start running again.
For my 10k on Sunday I am doing 10 second/30 second intervals for the first two or three miles and then switching to 10 second/20 second intervals for the rest. If I am feeling particularly speedy I might run part of the last mile or two but finishing strong is one of those things I am still working on. :upsidedow I'm hoping for a time in the 1:40s.
I had an important omission in my post about what Galloway says about the long run. What he says is YOU CAN'T DO YOUR LONG RUNS TOO SLOWLY. I went back and edited so it is correct now. :scared:
I figured that's what you meant! I meant to ask you that in my post, but forgot. Now that I'm beyond the half distance in my long runs, I will definitely be taking the slow advice to heart. And I'm a little embarrassed to say that I've been doing intervals for nearly 3 years and I've never figured out how to use the beeps on my watch! :confused: And thanks again for linking me to that video - I ended up watching some other form videos as well that I think will help me.
Happy Friday friends! First of all, hope everyone has good news on the scales. If not, what are you going to change this week? Where could you make improvements? What was your downfall this week? Or maybe you had a GREAT week, but the scale number isn't reflecting that. What OTHER way could you measure your success this week?
I had a small gain, but considering what I ate last weekend, I consider it a success! :lmao:
I'm at work today and my eye is even worse. I've already called the doctor and made an appointment for after school. I asked about leaving early, but they are short-handed already today. I'll just keep my fingers crossed that the day goes by quickly and that the afternoon class has a movie planned! :thumbsup2
Even though it was a short week, we are all saying TGIF here! I'll pop on during the day if I have time! TTYL......P
Oh no! Sorry about your eye.
I had a surprise maintain. I splurged over last weekend with my parents in town, but I guess my exercise did enough to offset that!
Good morning! Congrats to all who are hitting milestones in their weight loss journey :thumbsup2
After such a hectic week, I took yesterday off the dis. The thread is moving pretty slow right now, so it didn't take long to catch up this morning. I decided to restart my Jeff Galloway 5k app today. I plan to run a 5k on Thanksgiving, and I want to improve my time, so I better get started. I woke up all ready to go, but it's 30 degrees, so I am going to wait until around 9:00 before heading out. DSs are going to hang out with MIL around 11. She said she'd bring them home around 5:30. DH is exhausted from being sick all week and working a 12 hr shift last night, so I expect him to sleep most of the day, which means I have a few hours to myself! I have no idea what to do lol. Actually, I may go shopping for winter workout gear and new running shoes. I will not spend my free time cleaning!
Anyhow, I am off to get some stuff done before heading out for a run. Have a great Saturday!
Jill
