Happy St. Patrick's Day weekend everyone. How Irish are you and where in Ireland is your heritage from?

My great grandfather was from the Great Blasket Island. My great grandmother was from the mainland nearby on the Dingle peninsula. They both came over in the early 1900s, met and married in the US. His brother and her sister married in Ireland and lived on the island.

Top of the morning to ya! Irish by way of Ireland ancestors to settle Newfoundland in 1600's.

The Irish side of my family immigrated very early (1700's) so don't have much information on them. My mother's side of the family is German. My Great Grandfather did a family tree long ago and I can see some of the connections there as well as what I have found on Ancestry.

Zero Irish blood in me.
I’m 50% Swedish and 50% Hungarian

I *believe* I'm about 25% Irish and DH is about 75%. I don't know about my heritage, but DH's grandparents were from Ennis in County Clare. We got to see the old family homestead and cemetery in 2023 with about 35 family members from across the US and England. ☘️☘️☘️

Thought I'd add to my first reply. My then Gggg..Grandmother was on her way to Spain for her Education, was kidnapped by a Dutch tallship's Captain and crew for ransom. The then Queen of England commisioned the Pirate Peter Easton to rescue her.

My Gggg.Grandfather a British Navy Lt. was privateered to help
Easton. They were successful, and took my Grandmother to Newfoundland. She fell in love with my Grandfather on Easton's tall ship.

They married, and returned to Newfoundland to establish one of the first Settlements outside of St. John's.

The rest as they say is history..

I am a complete mutt with an indeterminate amount of Irish heritage, have never done DNA ancestry testing to check it out. No idea where my ancestors either left from out of hunger or fled or were cast out due to legal issues -- just the same as the rest of my forebearers from around the globe.

I just watched a Rick Steves episode on that part of Ireland. Looks very cool & I hope to go someday.

Married to a man of Irish/French descent, our kids are part Irish. Gave them either first or middle Irish names. Older daughter married a man of Irish descent and dual citizenship in 2023, after meeting him on St. Patrick’s day a few years ago. We embrace all things Irish!
