Vija -- You go in there with your head up, girl! We are so proud of you for jumping right in for the classes. I know I don't have the courage to do that! So give yourself a LOT of credit and go enjoy yourself!

Vija,

Hang in there. Do it for you. I am the largest and oldest in my step classes. They all have been very nice. I set up in the back and do what I can. It gets easier. I can't do a lot of the jumping & lunging. The instruction gives us lower imapact to do. it will be fine. Just have fun and any exercise is better than no exercise.:grouphug:

Vija, You can do this, go in there and show them what you are made of:)
Tons of luck and make sure you update us

DD made a Ben Franklin puppet last night it was so cute, Dh then looked at some quotes online that Ben Franklin said, my favorite was

Eat to Live NOT Live to Eat!

For some reason it struck a nerve with me, my whole life I HAVE been living to eat, when something good happens I want to celebrate by going out to eat, when something bad happens I eat to feel better, when bored I eat to not be bored etc. SO I am going to start working on this!

Hey team...I did not go AWOL just had a minor setback which I have just pm'd my buddy and Brenda about. Basically it goes like this...
Did you ever have one of those days you knew you should not have gotten out of bed??? Tuesday morning after a series of stuff happening before I left for work, I fell on ice on the sidewalk at work on my way in. I ended up in the ER for the day, chipped my elbow-which should heal and they think I tore a ligament again (did I mention I just had knee surgery 9/13?). I have been in a chair on my butt since then. I have a honking big brace/splint and pain meds...long story short I have no idea how much if any I lost. I can't stand right on the scale:scared1: ! Congrats to you all...:cheer2: On a good note, I was able to watch through a pain med haze, BL re-runs yesterday.

Vija- YOU GO GIRL!!!! You are very inspiring for all of us.... You can do it stand proud and strong...

everyone ready for challenge #2??

…this one focusing on exercise! Last week we focused on what we are putting in our mouth, how we are fueling our bodies. This week we are focusing on how we are burning off the stored energy we have (in the form of body fat)!

Here is how it works; below you see a list of ‘tasks’. For the next 7 days you are challenged to complete as many ‘tasks’ as you can. Each one is valued at 5 pts each. During the 7 days of the challenge, keep record of a completed task and at the end of the week turn in your final total score to PRINCESS VIJA. For example, task #1 -- Write down an exercise plan for the week… --- this is a one time task and you must complete it entirely to award yourself 5 pts. However, task #2 – Spend 10 minutes stretching after 2 workouts this week– is possible to complete this task more than once. Tasks that can be completed multiple times have maximum points listed.

This challenge is on your honor system, be accurate and honest with the points you award yourself. After all, if you cheat you are only cheating yourself from forming healthy exercising habits :thumbsup2

TASKS:

  1. Write down an exercise plan for the week -- put the times on your calendar, treat it like a scheduled appointment. Share your plan with your buddy or on the weekly thread if you don't have a buddy -- max 5 pts

  2. Spend 10 minutes stretching (yoga/pilates ok) after 2 workouts this week -- worth 5 pts after your 2nd session of 10 minutes of stretching; multiples most be completed in sets of 2 (4 times = 10 pts; 6 times = 15 pts, 8 times = 20 pts -- max 20 pts)

  3. Add 10 minutes to your cardio workouts 2 times this week --
worth 5 pts after your 2nd session of an additional 10 minutes on your routine cardio sessions; multiples most be completed in sets of 2 (4 times = 10 pts; 6 times = 15 pts, 8 times = 20 pts -- max 20 pts)

  4. Get moving and burn calories around your home -- spend 20 mins doing vigorous housework (scrubbing, moving stuff, washing windows....anything that gets your heart beating) -- 5 pts for each 20 min. cleaning session -- max 20 pts

This challenge is meant to motivate you...not to stress you! You may choose to complete one or two of the tasks, or all of them. Let this challenge be want you need it to be.....to CHALLENGE YOU!

The challenge begins on Friday, January 18 at 12:01 a.m. and ends on Thursday January 24 at midnight. Your final score must be reported to PRINCESS VIJA by Friday January 25 at noon EST in order to be included.

Suggestion – print out the task list and keep it handy to mark off each time you complete one for easy and accurate record.

I hope you all enjoyed the first challenge and started incorporating some new healthy habits into your routine! :yay: :yay:

Vija,
Stick with it. You've been a wonderful support for everyone, especially us newbies!

This board is definitely keeping me on track. Just before I started reading tonight I was waiting for DH and DS to leave for a school event so that I could raid a stash of chocolate chip cookies. Well, after they left I reached the listing of the top losers for last week... and there I was! After seeing that and reading everyone's best wishes how could I sabatoge myself and go for the cookies?! When I log off, I know that I'll be okay because I have all of you to support me but also hold me accountable!:)

Congrats to all the Top 10 Losers! :worship:

A special congrats to my buddy Sue who is # 4! Way to go Sue! :cool1:

This week has been a struggle for me. I was sick for most of the week and did not exercise. There is 5 days left to the next WI so I am going to work my butt off and hope that helps me drop the pound I gained and then some!

Hope everyone is having a great day!

Keep up the great work!

Michele

Thanks for the nice comment Michele. This is going to be YOUR week girl. Go get 'em! :yay: :cheer2:

Holy Crap I made the top 10, at number 2:cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

SWEET! I knew there was a reason I stopped drinking those michelobs! i tell ya, I can drink an entire loaf of bread :)...

anyway- I'm back from a 24 hour mini vacation that I treat myself to every week, incase you wondered (yeah, I was gone, really).... I meet DBF 1.5 hours away every Wednesday for alone time and got home rather late today at 2pm... usually I'm home in the morning...

Signed up at the Y on Wednesday, met with the trainer, gave her my thoughts on what exercise I like and what I hate, have my first 'training' with her next Wednesday!

This challenge looks great, and might just be what I need to kick myself into doing some cardio! YEAH!!!

congrats to all the other losers... you all are great...

and next wednesday- please refrain from posting, my butt is getting bigger when I have to sit here and read 5-6 pages :)

Brandy

Congrats, Carri!

(Thanks, cobbler! Next week will be your week!)

Vija, you can totally do it. Don't worry about what anyone else thinks, because odds are, they're concentrating so much on getting their own efforts right and on whether they look goofy, they aren't even thinking of you. I've always been really bad at anything requiring moving multiple body parts at once (so aerobics, dance, anything involving hitting / kicking / throwing, etc.), and I just do my own thing towards the back of the room. That way, if I fall over, I don't knock anyone else down. ;)

WOW!! You all are amazing! Congrats to the Big Losers, and :cheer2: Calli:cheer2: I can't believe y'all--Tae Kwon Do, marathons, just amazing. I'm in awe!

I did great on the week 1 challenge, week 2 I'm not so sure. Aside from the plan, it's gonna be hard. but I'll try!

Still here at Canyon Ranch having a blast. And I am TIRED!!!!

I'm back! Is there a smiley for sweating profusely???;) :rotfl:

Ok, it went pretty good. With some ups and downs.... This is pretty long, but I need to tell you all, because you guys have been so supportive!!!

First I got my uniform, the biggest they make and guess what??? It did not fit.:headache: the top was OK, a little tight but I can wear it, with a white tshirt underneath. The bottoms, no chance in heck. Couldn't even get them over my hips. :rolleyes1 :sad2: :scared: I talked to Master V and he said that he was going to try and find bigger pants for me, but in the mean time asked if I had white pants... That made me laugh, is there ANY woman out there in my size that wears white pants? Only at gunpoint! LOL! I said I was so dissapointed because I really wanted to start tonight. Luckily I was wearing my blue sweats and he said I could wear those and try and find black ones to wear in the mean time.

Now I had to sit through my DD's class. In sheer terror of having to wear blue sweatpants instead of the white pants. Just worried at how ridiculous it would look, and how I would feel so singled out. Well, her class ended and it was inevitable, I had to go and change. I came out holding my head high, (but honestly I did feel like hiding/crying:sad1: ). My DH, DS and DD were there at the start to watch me and give me support, it absolutely meant so very much to me.

Just before class started Master V called me up and introduced me to the class and was so nice and kind. Oh, my, I felt so much support from everyone, he had them clap for me just for making the commitment to get started! He noticed that my family was there for suport and he made a point of saying that whatever I do is OK, and that we all need to support everyone. I can't tell you how much that meant to me!!!! We started the pushups and jumping jacks. (I have them modified and I was doing ok, a bit tired). I think I did every other push up. We then ran (OK, I walked) and to be honest that was a bit for my left heal, but ok.

Then we separated into groups. One set worked on sparring, one set worked on forms, and I went with Master V and he worked one on one with me. We did the basic kicks, and he told me some things that were so impressive to me. First he told me that he did research on this (meaning working with someone my size), and that meant so much to me and that he was so invested to try to help me, he gave me pointers on how to breathe right, how to fall so I don't break any bones (seriously, he told me to not try and stop a fall, just go down, because if I try and stop a fall, I would probably break something.:scared1: ) and he gave me an exercise to do 3x a day to help me with strength.

One cool thing was I did a wheel kick to a step behind side kick. My DD loves this kick and he said that just before we started, after I did it, he asked if DD was doing that with me, I said no, it was just from watching them for so many years.... and he said WOW, THAT'S IMPRESSIVE! Did you see that??? I got an impressive!:woohoo:

He also said that he would help me and he would be there with me, if I would be there with him. I said Yes sir! It did feel good to do those kicks, and I dream of the day I earn my black belt.

He also said he wants to know how much weight I loose every 2 weeks.

He had me work for 17 minutes and then sent me home. My knees are a bit sore, but I feel so proud of myself. My family greeted me and they each said they were proud of me.

And you know what, I am proud of me too!

Oh, and the best part? When I was leaving I had so many people that were still in class telling me I did a great job, and they were proud of me.

THAT WAS AWESOME!

If you still are reading, Thanks!:grouphug:

Well, last week's bonus was easy for me, so I guess it's only fair that I won't get many points this week. :)

Write down an exercise plan for the week

Hee, 5 points! I walk at or just after lunchtime at work. Usually 2 miles slow (so ~16 minutes per mile) and a third mile fast (~14 minutes). Tomorrow I'm in class at lunch, so will walk 2 miles after class (although I do get in a fair amount of walking on break, too). The rest of the week, I'm either at work at lunchtime or can walk when I come back from a lunch meeting. If I work Saturday and/or Sunday, I'll walk at work, otherwise, I'll go to the park, which usually means 1.5 miles of walking and 2.5 of jogging, although I might do a second lap if I feel like one wasn't enough.

If I'm not working over the weekend, I might try the stretches after, but odds are much better that I'll work both days than neither. Work has nowhere good to stretch, and I spend my 10 after-walk minutes making my after-walk smoothie and wandering about slowly to cool down.

My routine, such as it is, already has enough cardio in it that I'm hesitant to add more duration. Too much cardio can be catabolic (muscle-consuming), and being close to goal (which I am) increases the risk of loss of lean muscle mass. I really need to add some strength work, but I don't need any more cardio.

I don't do housework, particularly not this time of year. Once a week, I'll run 3 loads of laundry, because I care about having clean clothes, but everything else is up to MIL and my partner. (I'm a tax CPA, this is tax season, I work 70+ hours a week during tax season, scrubbing floors is Somebody Else's Problem, and if they don't do it, then we all just live with sticky floors. ;) )

Congrat Vija...I'm so proud of you! That is absolutely fantastic! Keep it up!

Congrats... you will be a black belt in no time...

Thanks guys! The support means so much to me!

Congrats!

My Ex and his brothers did Kempo for years- the 3 of them were overeweight, his older brother, mobidly. They dropped some serious weight doing Kempo, and I'm sure you will as well.

Way to go on the kicks, and the coolest thing about this form of exercise for you- your going to be doing something as a family, what a great added bonus! I'm sure it makes your family very impressed by seeing you make this committments- what a thing to teach your children!

Way to go girl!

Brandy

Good Friday morning everyone.

First Did you PM your challenge 1 points to Vija. If not they need to be in very quickly.

Vija Congrats on your class. It sounds like it went well. Keep it up.

WInniedapooh (Michelle) :grouphug: I am so sorry about your knee. I hurt my knee in October and it takes a long time to heal because you are always moving your knee. Rest and let it get better. It is the only thing that will help to start. Then start working it.

Question of the Day?

What are your secrets for feeling fulfilled and happy every day?

THanks to tl_swift for the question.

I will have to get back to the question when I have a chance to think about it since I am not a happy camper this morning. Ds2's marching band dinner is this SUnday night. I asked him what they are getting the band director. AS of this morning NOTHING except what I picked up for him. I told him that better change and it better change fast. This is a guy who gives up nights and a lot of weekends for these kids and they are not getting him a gift. Come on. At least we have a small thing for him. Their show this past season was "Live From Lincoln Center" so I got him an reproduction of an ornament that was hanging on the Christmas tree infront of Lincoln Center. It is from Wedgwood so it is blue and white and on 1 side it has ballet slippers and on the other side there are musical instruments. It says Lincoln Center 2007. I like to find gift for him that match the show. One season we gave him MM ears and a snowglobe in the shape of MM ears for the year he did Disney music. The year he did Pirates of the Carribean we gave him a pirates watch. I told my son that I was not happy and something had to change immediately. Not the way I wanted to start my morning.

Hope everyone had a better start to their day. Challenge #2 is up so get started on this one and Pm your points for the last one to Vija.

Question of the Day?

What are your secrets for feeling fulfilled and happy every day?

This is going to sound so cliche' but what my secret is that I really try to just let things roll. I have spent a good part of my life being consumed by OCD, not compulsive, i dont think the world is going to crash if I dont fold the towels right- but obsessive enough that they have to be folded right... read right as "MY WAY"...

I have taken steps to just let things go, what happens happens, and if not well then there is a reason.

Journaling is what got me to where I am today. I spent 15 minutes every morning sitting alone with my coffee and book and just write write write. I took a creativity class 2 years ago, and just got back into this part of it. Makes a big difference.

Oh, and DBF and my 2 DD's have a lot to do with how happy i am!
