Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique/Disney Costume Dresses PIX

the deluxe cinderella dress...did you put somthing on under it to puff it more or is it that puffy??

That is exactly how the dress hangs and is made! It's beautiful. I don't know if you can still buy it at the park or not but you can find them on ebay. Most of my Disney Park dresses (except for Snow White, Lilo, Yellow Belle, and our first Jasmine) I bought through a woman on ebay. She sells them ALL! ALl the others I just listed and are about to list I bought at Disney online or at our local Disney stores. Some of the ones online and at the store actually look better than the park dresses. Just depends on which one it is. Like SB, the park looks best IMO. Cinderella I love the park as well because it's simple like the character you meet. Snow White I prefer the park version since it looks just like the character but I also have a deluxe one from DS which is amazing just not as close of a match as the SW character. KWIM? It all depends on what you're looking for. ALl I recommend is don't shop at the discount stores! Those look way different when you're sitting at BBB with your kid having her makeover. And if you go on ebay or shop online or at DS during the sells you get a better deal anyway! Everyone loves a good deal right?

Am I the only one who thinks this is just a bit too much?

No, I know I'm not the only because I saw a segment on one of the major networks new shows (20/20 I think) who said the same thing, and more.

Everything in life is accelerated so quickly and this is just another example. Seeing in WDW some of the little girls *made up* like teenagers is heartbreaking. Kids are little for such a short time. Between preschoolers knowing who Britney is (and liking her, ugh) and the way popular culture and media are today, there is little to look forward to.

Similar to the 3 year old soccer team in our town. Cute as can be but no wonder kids get burnt out before they're truly old enough to decide *if* they really like something, or are possibly even good at it.

JMO and both of my sisters both disagree with me too - they're huge BBB fans. But my fire suit is on, flame away
I really don't care - just some *food for thought* from a mom of tweens who has been there, done that :)

A little girl wearing a costume dress with her hair pinned up pretty with a crown bothers you!? Okay, that is weird. I don't consider that "made up" at all. Did you not let your babies dress up for Halloween? Same thing. Now if you are referring to pageant children with fake eyelashes, dyed hair, and makeup so thick she could leave a face imprint on a napkin that's a whole different story but that is NOT Bibbidi Bobbidi! There it's all about the hairstyle and pixie dust! What Britney/Paris obesessed "tween" do you know that would be caught wearing a Disney Princess dress!? This kind of thing keeps kids young! (And it adds memories to their childhood they will cherish forever!) :goodvibes

Oh I agree w/ you. My dd is 6.5yo and did not got to BBB in December and I swallowed my issues w/ it and offered her as choice between BBB and another kid's pirate cruise for her upcoming birthday trip and she picked the pirate cruise!

Don't get me wrong, she's a princess freak through and through...but she really enjoyed her pirate cruise at POR in December so she opted to try the GF one.

She's got three dresses(that she knows of) and one that she will be surprised w/ when we arrive in July for her bday trip. We had her wear her dresses for character meals (Minnie for Chef Mickey's, Snow White for Akershus and Cindy for 1900 Park Fare) and then she took it off. She did wear Snow White a little longer around Epcot, but I don't foresee her doing that in July w/ the heat.

To be honest, I was pretty uncomfortable w/ the amount of makeup on the BBB girls we saw around the park...but I could deal w/ that to a certain degree (even though I prefer dd not to have any at 6 or 7yo). I was VERY uncomfortable hearing parents chiding the children for getting "messed up" while touring the park in their BBB outfits...and seeing the poor little girl in the GF bathroom crying because her feet were all red and swollen from her princess shoes. It really was disturbing.

All the BBB girls we saw looked exactly the same and for what they are doing (hair, makeup & nails) for $50...I would rather have dd do something interactive like the pirate cruise (only $30) and then stop by the barber shop for a bit of pixie dust instead.

I know that I could have dd do BBB w/o the makeup...but I wouldn't let her do BBB and then stop her from doing what the girl next to her is doing (like limiting candy "awards" at school...sure I don't want dd to have candy but I don't want her to not get her award, YKWIM?).

It isn't just BBB, I'm equally disturbed by Libby Lou, the bday "makeover" parties at Glamouricous and Justice for Girls, etc... I just don't think it is appropriate to push all this on really young girls. Dress up is one thing, but layering on the makeup (I have yet to see a princess in a Disney movie putting makeup on as part of the story) is a totally different issue.

I guess I'll put on my fire suit too!

Flame on you two. Flame Flame Flame. :rotfl2:

To each their own I suppose. While I do agree that we make our children in this country grow up a little faster than they should, I see absolutely nothing wrong with letting my 4 year old dress up every once in a while and make herself look "bee-U-tea-ful" as she likes to put it. We've taken her to Libby Loo for a special occasion before, and every once in a while I paint her toenails like mine because she wants to mimic me. But its not like we let her dress in inappropriate clothing and put on makeup every day, that would be silly. When you're at Disney, I would say thats the most special occasion of all, so if my daughter wants to dress up like Ariel or Sleeping Beauty when we so our charecter breakfasts or do a photo shoot at the BBB, thats fine with me.

I think people can find fault in anything if they look too deep.

I think a makeover at BBB is very innocent. I am sure you can ask for a small amount of makeup or none at all. My dd 7 cannot stand makeup but does love the hair thing and a little glitter and pixie dust! There is nothing wrong with a little girl wanting to be a princess for a day.

Just my opinion.:flower3:

I think it is silly to read so much into this!

Little girls play dress up and have forever. It doesn't come from pop culture - it comes from the fact that adult women dress up/wear makeup, and little kids like to pretend to be grown-up. The only reason we see something more sinister in it is because we're so conditioned to overanalyzing *everything* when it comes to parenting. I really don't see a difference between the BBB and the pictures my grandmother has of my mom in a homemade replica of Grandma's wedding gown, complete with little-girl heels, fake pearls, and the horrible bright lipstick that was the style in the 50s. It is all just innocent fun, not early conditioning for teenage promiscuity a la Brittney. And BBB is, in my experience, very age-appropriately done. DD was practically bathed in pixie dust, but the actual makeup colors were very subtle and very little-girl play makeup pastel.

I tend to think that when it comes to activities for little kids, whether BBB or 3yo soccer or whatever, there's no harm in it as long as the interest is genuinely child-led. Burn out comes from parents pushing, not from letting kids follow their interests (even if it is just a passing interest in soccer because a TV character they like plays), and not every activity has to develop into a long-term interest to be worthwhile.

FWIW, the majority of the BBB girls we saw in December did NOT have "just a little" make up on...it looked like it was applied w/ a trowel! I could definitely deal w/ "just a little."

Again, I think for $15 dd will be just as happy getting a ponytail and pixie dust at the Harmony Barber Shop.

If BBB offered THAT...for even $20 or $25, I would be much more comfortable w/ it. Unfortunately every one of their packages includes makeup.

As for playing dress up..I'm all for it. Dd has a bunch of TDS costumes, as well as a Disney princess "dress up" trunk w/ some play silks added. Playing dress up never included make up back when we played it...and dd doesn't have any either.

To the OP, your little girl is adorable! You must have an extra closet for all those costumes. I would have loved to have had so many pretty princess dresses when I was little. :lovestruc

I bet many people find your pictures and comments helpful. I don't have kids, but even I liked looking at all the different dresses out there! This big kid wishes they came in adult sizes! :rotfl:

Pushy parents are one of my pet peeves, and they bother me more at Disney than elsewhere! I just can't understand why parents would ignore their kids' discomfort on a trip that is supposed to be every kid's dream come true! We brought DD's Aurora costume from home, complete with comfy pink Skechers slip-ons that are cute but functional, because we knew she'd want to wear the dress all day and wanted it to be comfortable (especially the shoes!)

The pirate cruise does look cool, but DD has little interest. She's a princess, pure & simple, and is mainly interested in the princess experiences. So we've done the Aurora princess tea and we've done the BBB and we've done the castle lunch, and next trip we're going to have "grown-up" tea at the Grand Floridian. Maybe when she gets a bit older she'll get more into the pirate side of things and the kid-only adventures, but right now she wants princesses and things we do together.

I agree with you 100%! Parents should never force their kids into anything....sports, dress up, dance class, whatever. It should be something the child wants to do. BBB is a wonderful experience for any little girl (and mom too, I did it once with my dd!) Last time my 8 yo ds and his dad even did it at the same time! It was a great family experience! Dad got a mohawk, ds got a punk rock do, and dd tried the crown w/ her SB dress. I didn't do it this time around because the day before all of my make-up, underwear, etc was stolen from the Coronado Springs Resort. Sorry way to start off your vacation huh? :worship: All ended well though. Your little girl looks like she had a fun time too! She's so adorable!

Thank you! She does have her own armoire (dad built her one like the one at BBB with the open front....fancy princess jewels, etc.) We wouldn't have that many if I wasn't good at finding deals ~ I'd never buy them all if they were full price! Another reason I wanted to share info so everyone could get 2-3 or even 4 dresses for the price of one at Disney! I was told by a CM one time that adults can get the park dresses but they have to be pre ordered. Now if that's true or not I don't know but she did say that when my friend commented about it. :wizard:
