I am looking for a mini-van for Aug 12-18. The best rate I could get online with National was $411. I checked with Dollar online and got a rate of $265, but would have to pay $35 for the extra driver. I called National last night and was quoted $310. I didn't take it because I thought Dollar was much better (didn't know about the extra driver fee). I called back and National told me $475. I said forget it.
This afternoon I called again and she quoted me $430. I basically told her what I was getting with Dollar and that she needed to get closer to that or I wouldn't go with National.
Well, she found the $310 rate again and I took it. Maybe it's because I'm so close to the rental date that I had luck with this method. Not sure. I did use a Emerald Club number and the Disney VISA discount code.
Just wanted to share this info in case it helps someone.
Now, a question - we have always rented with National and been happy with it. Is there a reason for me to go with Dollar to save $10? I don't like that they tack on an extra driver fee and there has been talk of them trying to "sell" you a better van when you check in. Any thoughts would be helpful. Thanks!
