best area to stay in Riverside?

Anybody have any opinions about building 14? That's where we'll be staying next month.

Oh, I'm thrilled that I found this thread! I was just about to ask the same question.

I want to stay in Alligator Bayou, too. I'm not so concerned about being close to things; I'm more interested in being sure I don't get a parking lot view, and I'd like an all non-smoking building.

The POR FAQ thread says, "Smoking is permitted in Buildings 17, 27, 28, 34 and 36." But later, the FAQ threads says, "Smoking optional buildings are Oak Manor in the Mansions and Alligator Bayou buildings 18 and 38." Anyone know which information is current?

Anything special I should do to put in my room request? Do I just call POR's reservation number? (I think that 407-934-7639)

Also, here's a question for folks who were recently there -- was there much damage to the landscaping?

Thanks!

We stayed Magnolia Terrace in room 8603 Magnolia Bend.. Location was great, a very short walk to the bus stop, parking lot, (if you use your car) The food court was the furthest walk.

Ok so which room or building should we ask for if we want victorian style ,no smoking and beautiful views and away from the hustle and bustle. Thanks

I stayed at Acadian Mansion and all of the hustle and bustle was centered at the pool on Old Man Island and the food court. I was surprised how quiet the place was. There is a small pool in the back left of Acadian. I don't think you can see much of the river from the backside. There were a lot of formal hedges around the back perimeter of the building. I can't comment on which building is non smoking, I know my room was though. Have fun on your trip.

We stayed in AB #14 but it was about 4 years ago. We had a first floor room. It was a short walk to the parking lot, main bus stop, and the food court. Despite it being close to the food court we never were disturbed at all by noise. We were there 4 days before we knew we had neighbors and they realized that we were there. We happened to come back from the pool one day and they were sitting outside their door and commented how they didn't know we were there and how well behaved our kids must be for them not to hear them. DH and I grinned at one another....those rooms MUST be soundproof! LOL.
