Hellooo... can I play? I think I posted once on the old thread, but it got too out of control for me to follow. ;)

I'm a grad student (done next year), I like food but especially wine! :lmao: I am going to WDW in October for my very first Food and Wine festival, and I am VERY EXCITED! I'll be there Oct. 14-18 (my birthday weekend). I think I want to go to Jiko for my birthday dinner, but I haven't booked anything yet. I am tempted to just eat at F&W booths every night! I'm a pretty light eater, and I can usually only eat half of an entree at a WDW restaurant. So if anyone wants to go halfsies at a restaurant, let me know! :rotfl2:

So, wine question: I just bought this awesome wine rack for my kitchen, and I need to fill it up! Tell me your favorite wines under $15, quick! :dance3:

Were you watching on Oxygen? That's when I caught it last night. I actually broke down a few months back and ordered a copy of it from Amazon - it was only $10 and all the commerical breaks on Oxygen were driving me craaaaaazy.

Yes, I'm sure it was on Oxygen because that's one of the channels I'm always flicking on and off. I think that was about the 5th time in the past few months I've watched the movie. Fred just rolled his eyes at me then rolled over and went to sleep. I'm bad with watching tv in bed until the wee hours of the morning. :happytv:

Remember this?

piggy_22.gif

When I first showed it to Jay he asked if he was supposed to be the piggy. I told him, no; it's each of us embracing our inner pig.

Then this morning he decided that it's really supposed to be him (or me or you or anyone) giving the Swine Flu a noogie. :lmao::lmao::lmao:

Swine flu noogie... :rotfl:

Started reading the blog too. I read his bio, and he did sound very mature, at least until I got to the part where he "kicks his sister's butt" at Guitar hero. LOL. :rotfl:

He's the height of maturity and decorum when he's talking food (or girls), but then he reverts to a little boy with everything else...complete with the butt kicking of his sister. :rotfl2: I'm trying to savor that part in some weird way. They just grow up too fast.

In case you haven't made it to the blog, here are pics from Tony's & Hollywood Brown Derby

You know what's coming next ;)

apparently we didn't get a pic of DS's cheese pizza/flatbread probably because he devoured it so fast. He really enjoyed it :thumbsup2

Love the spaghetti pic! I haven't been to Tony's in years. I get nervous with the mixed reviews I hear so we've stayed clear for some time. Might have to give it another try soon. Now that grapefruit cake-if I could lick the screen I would. :p

I think this is really cool! All in all, this "celebrate" theme is being handled much better than I ever expected! It's not like we got free stuff all the time, but it was really nice hearing "happy anniversary" all the time. The CM's were really good at taking the 10 seconds to acknowledge you and it makes a real difference :thumbsup2

I LOVE this! I had no idea they did that there now for the new theme. Very cool! I love all those cute keepsakes.

Welcome back! I remember you from such threads as Bendy's Friendies Part I ... :rotfl2:

My birthday is October 17th and we're planning a DISmeet that night - you'd be more than welcome to stop by if you'd like. Send me a PM if the idea of meeting up with a bunch of us doesn't strike you as too scary. ;)

As for a great wine under $15 ... Georges Duboeuf Beaujolais ... we can get it at our grocery store for about $9 per bottle and it's one of my favorite light red wines.

Yeah, I was going to say what Brenda said. We're all meeting for Brenda's birthday, and you're welcome to come meet us if we don't scare the pants off of you.

My favorite wines under $15?

Bogle Petite Syrah - nice red with peppery notes

Goats Do Roam white from South Africa - I've become more of a red wine fan, but this is a white I still really like.

And there's always three buck Chuck at Trader Joe's, if you have one near you. Aka Charles Shaw wines. Cheap and very tasty.

Well, I went to Fresh Farms market today, and I went nuts.

I bought Copper River Salmon, asparagus, sweet corn, baby eggplant, broccoli, zucchini, and baby bella mushrooms.

Now I am trying to figure out how I want to make my salmon and which veggies I want to use. Choices, choices!

Oh, and I bought fruits, too. Raspberries, blackberries, and because I really want to try them, lychee fruit!

I know I'm going to broil the salmon, but I'm torn about how I want to season it.

Sounds good to me! :thumbsup2

I just wanted to say that I love your signature line...

Marriage should be a balanced stalemate between equal adversaries.

That pretty much sums up me & Steve. LOL! :lmao:

Thanks....that's Rick and I too. It's from one of Elizabeth Peters books. One in the Amelia Peabody series- which I highly recommend if anyone is looking for something to read by the pool! Very witty and strong female protagonist!

We were lucky enough on one trip to NOLA to have dinner and lunch at CP ... different days of course, even Jay and I can't manage to do that kind of digestive damage in one day. :lmao:

When we had lunch there we took my parents and my mother was horrified that we ordered a bottle of wine with lunch. Alcohol is supposed to be an evening kind of thing. ;)

We had milk punch with breakfast one morning in NOLA and I thought the poor woman was going to faint right there at the table. :rotfl2:

LOL, I grew up in Kentucky where you only drank before evening on Derby Day- and then it was a faux pas to start before noon! Now, we're up and headed for mimosas or bloody marys on the way to brunch!:lmao:

It's just hard for some people to understand...for years our friends would come get us at the airport and stop and get daquiris and have them waiting when we got there. It's something in the culture........or the water....I'm not sure which!:rotfl:

Hey y'all, One day and 6 pages!

So when are you coming home so we can go out to lunch?!!

Kathy, Did you order buttons for me? Do I owe you or Brenda?

I'll be home next weekend, but then back out again to the great wet north!

F&WF may be the first chance we get! Are we going for 3 years in a row this year?

And ditto on that question again Kathy....

Chelle, I love the pics and the menu! I started catching up on your blog today and then my baby started throwing up, so my afternoon went a little haywire....I'll have to finish up tonight.

Lychees are great....we got them all the time when we lived in Asia, and of course fresh ones aren't available around these parts!

Ooh, I forgot to mention.....we were browsing Williams-Sonoma this afternoon, and they are running their summer sale. They've got some great deals on mixers. We picked up a 3 pack of cocktail mixes that were originally $29.98 for $2.99 and a big bottle of the Williams-Sonoma Pina Colada mix that was originally $16.95 for only $6.99.

They've got lots of other stuff on sale as well.....but the natives (aka my kids) were getting restless, so I didn't get to pay too close attention!

As I stated previously ... I'm more than happy to mail buttons to anyone who wants me to. Just PM me with your information and I'll take care of it. :goodvibes

My parents are coming over for dinner tomorrow ... Jay is making homemade salsa since we've got so many tomatoes and peppers from our garden this summer. I'm going to make a Champagne-Citrus Sorbet for dessert. Jay is going to grill some steaks and we'll have spinach salad and some fresh green beans and fresh rye bread.

I'm also experimenting tonigt with a frozen lemonade / chopped strawberry drink with vodka added for a kickaroo. :thumbsup2

So I was thinking...(a dangerous pastime, I know...)

Why not play with tonight's dinner and do practice food porn? Here's a picture taken with the regular, point and shoot method. The food porn involved some flashing, too! :faint: ;)

DSCN0060.jpg

Now this one was taken with the food setting on the camera. Macro mode without any flashing. :teeth:

DSCN0061.jpg

The color of the plate is more true to life in the food setting picture on the bottom, but I think the flash picture makes it look more appetizing.

I seasoned the salmon with Emeril's fish rub seasoning and added some dill, as well. The veggies under the salmon were asparagus, yellow and orange mini bell peppers, baby eggplant, and baby bella mushrooms. I sautéed them in olive oil with my favorite roasted garlic seasoning blend.

It was delish. Mmm.

That looks tasty. (insert chops-licking emoticon) And artfully displayed as well! And do I spy fiestaware? You have excellent taste in Princesses and dishware :thumbsup2

LOL thanks. Yep, it's Fiestaware.

Lori, yummy looking salmon and veggies :)

Chelle, great pictures and I love your blog :goodvibes

Brenda, does Jay have a homemade salsa recipe he's willing to share? My tomatoes and peppers are all ripening in the garden now.
