I love that menu! So awesome! And I really liked the Lady and Tramp spaghetti pic. I think next time you should have a pic of DH pretending to move the meatball closer to you with his nose. ;)
Wasn't the menu cool? I'd read a report (I'm awful, I forget whose it was but it was a newlywed) and they'd done something similar.

I really did lol about the meatball suggestion :lmao:
:rotfl: I agree with Lori on this one!
Cathy

DH said he would have, but it was DD's meal.....

Chelle - Read your latest blog entry. I think you and your DH should just have stayed at Epcot to continue drinking! ;)

It crossed my mind :rolleyes1 but we still had the cruise ahead of us for more drinking :thumbsup2

He's the height of maturity and decorum when he's talking food (or girls), but then he reverts to a little boy with everything else...complete with the butt kicking of his sister. :rotfl2: I'm trying to savor that part in some weird way. They just grow up too fast.

Love the spaghetti pic! I haven't been to Tony's in years. I get nervous with the mixed reviews I hear so we've stayed clear for some time. Might have to give it another try soon. Now that grapefruit cake-if I could lick the screen I would. :p

I LOVE this! I had no idea they did that there now for the new theme. Very cool! I love all those cute keepsakes.

His blog is great:thumbsup2 you must be very proud of him :goodvibes

It's very rare nowadays for me to have a "1st" at Disney, but I had never been to Tony's before. I was nervouse, reviews aren't always (usually) good, but MickeyNicki has had decent luck there at lunch so I figured it was worth a shot. I'm glad we went, it was a good meal.
I'm not a grapefruit cake fan, but DH & DD love it. Last time we were there in December I had the pumpkin cheesecake and that was to die for good!

Chelle - Love the traditional family pic and the menu at HBD!!! Enjoyed your blog update as well!:thumbsup2

Thanks! The picture has become a tradition and it's fun to look at how the kids are growing up over the last few years.

Chelle, I love the pics and the menu! I started catching up on your blog today and then my baby started throwing up, so my afternoon went a little haywire....I'll have to finish up tonight.

I hope baby is feeling better now :goodvibes

As I stated previously ... I'm more than happy to mail buttons to anyone who wants me to. Just PM me with your information and I'll take care of it. :goodvibes

My parents are coming over for dinner tomorrow ... Jay is making homemade salsa since we've got so many tomatoes and peppers from our garden this summer. I'm going to make a Champagne-Citrus Sorbet for dessert. Jay is going to grill some steaks and we'll have spinach salad and some fresh green beans and fresh rye bread.

I'm also experimenting tonigt with a frozen lemonade / chopped strawberry drink with vodka added for a kickaroo. :thumbsup2
Do you need anyone to taste test the drink for you? ;) I'd be happy to volunteer

We're having Jon's parents over tomorrow. I'm just making BBQ & coleslaw, and I haven't figured out what else.

Hope it goes well for both of us! Is there a fingers crossed smilie?

Well today has been busy at our house. Me and the kids decided to take an improptu trip to the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC this week. Poor Fred must stay behind and work. Luckily I can escape my job at will-its good to be your own boss. We are headed down on Monday. Not sure I am relishing the 12 hour drive with two teenagers, but hopefully there won't be any necessity for roadside beatings to keep them in check.
a.gif
I'm looking forward to getting down to the winery and stocking up. (Really, I swear I am not a wino...I just really enjoy some of their wines). I will take lots of lots of pictures...so many that you'll probably want to jab your eyes out with the nearest sharp object. I'm sure I'll still pop in during the week at night. Tomorrow will be the kamikaze packing day. :yay:

Hellooo... can I play? I think I posted once on the old thread, but it got too out of control for me to follow. ;)

So, wine question: I just bought this awesome wine rack for my kitchen, and I need to fill it up! Tell me your favorite wines under $15, quick! :dance3:

Welcome!
Red- Rodney Strong Cabernet
White-Loredona Viogner

I ordered two for you. I think we're paying Bendy when we meet and get our buttons.:goodvibes If that's not right Bendy can yell at me.:upsidedow

You are a GOOD friend! :goodvibes

LOL, I grew up in Kentucky where you only drank before evening on Derby Day- and then it was a faux pas to start before noon! Now, we're up and headed for mimosas or bloody marys on the way to brunch!:lmao:

It's just hard for some people to understand...for years our friends would come get us at the airport and stop and get daquiris and have them waiting when we got there. It's something in the culture........or the water....I'm not sure which!:rotfl:

I'll be home next weekend, but then back out again to the great wet north!

F&WF may be the first chance we get! Are we going for 3 years in a row this year?

And ditto on that question again Kathy....

No wonder you ended up in the land of drive-thru daquiris & blood marys for breakfast! ;)

Well if you get anytime at home let us know! We have started having some regular meets with our NOLA thread friends.

Third times a charm or is it Three Strikes & you're Out?!

Brenda, Can you post the recipe for the sorbet? I've been wanting to try my hand at making sorbet.

So I was thinking...(a dangerous pastime, I know...)

Why not play with tonight's dinner and do practice food porn? Here's a picture taken with the regular, point and shoot method. The food porn involved some flashing, too! :faint: ;)

DSCN0060.jpg

Now this one was taken with the food setting on the camera. Macro mode without any flashing. :teeth:

The color of the plate is more true to life in the food setting picture on the bottom, but I think the flash picture makes it look more appetizing.

I seasoned the salmon with Emeril's fish rub seasoning and added some dill, as well. The veggies under the salmon were asparagus, yellow and orange mini bell peppers, baby eggplant, and baby bella mushrooms. I sautéed them in olive oil with my favorite roasted garlic seasoning blend.

It was delish. Mmm.

I agree the flash picture looks really YUMMY!! :thumbsup2

My Gawd ... were the boards constipated or something? I was unable to move between forums for the last 45 minutes or so and was seriously considering giving my computer an enema. :lmao:

Just wanted to let everyone know ... for all those folks who've provided me email address the invites all went out today. If you don't receive them or if you're unable to see the attachment please let me know.

:goodvibes

I have a Fresh Farms near me and I love to shop there. I have heard wonderful things about the new one, can't wait to try it:thumbsup2

So this is another fabulous store that I have to travel 400 miles to shop at? Jeebus, we really need to move somewhere other than Stinktown. :lmao:

Hey Sheryl, here's the recipe I used for the sorbet mix. I haven't run it through our ice cream maker so I don't know if I actually made it correctly (not the most helpful recipe I've ever used).

Also ... I was too dumb to realize until I was halfway through the process that this must be a recipe for an ice cream maker that's much bigger than ours. I think we're going to be eating sorbet in Stinktown for a long, long time. :rotfl2:

One other thing ... we only used three cups of champagne because the cork blew off the bottle when Jay took the foil covering off. So we ended up with a quarter of a bottle of Michele St. Domaine all over our kitchen table and floor. Thankfully he wasn't hurt because there was obviously far too much pressure in the bottle ... and it had been sitting on our table for a few hours not doing anything but looking pretty.

So to make up the last cup of alcohol for the recipe we tossed in some vodka, and then some leftover Rosa Regale for good measure. I tasted the mix before putting it in the refrigerator to chill and it's pretty tasty ... a little more sweet than I would have liked but some of that may freeze out.

Without further ado ... the most annoying sorbet recipe ever:

Champagne Citrus Sorbet

4 cups good quality Champagne
2 cups sugar
4 cups water
2 cups orange juice, freshly squeezed (7 to 8 oranges)
1/2 cup lemon juice, freshly squeezed

Pop cork from champagne bottle 1 to 2 hours before using. Gradually pour champagne, allowing for foaming, into a 2-quart container; set aside.

In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine sugar and water. Stir until mixture comes to a boil; reduce heat to low and simmer 5 minutes. Remove from heat, cover, and let stand approximately 10 minutes or until cool.

To champagne, add sugar syrup, orange juice, and lemon juice (do not strain pulp from juices); stir until thoroughly blended. Chill overnight for best results.

Ice Cream Maker - Transfer mixture to ice cream maker, process according to manufacturer's instructions.

Freezer Method - Pour into container, cover, and place mixture in the freezer. When it is semi-solid, mash it up with a fork and refreeze again. When frozen, place in a food processor or blender and process until smooth. Cover and refreeze until serving time.

NOTE: Can be prepared 3 days in advance. Cover and keep frozen.

Makes 10 to 12 servings.

Sounds like a great trip ... some day we will get to Biltmore, not just drive past the signage on the interstate. :lmao:

Love your emoticon guys ... very funny! :thumbsup2 Have a safe journey and buy lots of good wines!! And take some pictures that you can share with the rest of us to help pass the time until F&W begins! :goodvibes

I thought it was just me last night. I was ready to drop kick my laptop, but then figured perhaps it was a sign that I should just go to bed.

Heather - I hope your little one is better this morning!

Brenda - sounds like a great dinner!

Lori - dinner looked divine. in both photos. But the flash was better!

Allison - I love Biltmore. Honk and wave as you drive past Fredericksburg, please! Or, call me and I will meet you on I-95. You only have to slow down a little bit and I will jump in!

Brenda - your sorbet sounds good. I have only one question... how does one have "leftover" Rosa Regale??

Hey friendies! I just sent out the first batch of email invites ... I'll send the rest later today or tomorrow. Please be sure to PM with your email address so that I can send you one if you're planning to come.

Big thanks and lots of hugs to Cass and Nancy (Timon & Cntkg1) for putting their heads together and creating a fabulous design for us! :grouphug::grouphug::grouphug:
The invitations came out great!

I will definitely give you a shout out as I pass through. :drive::wave:

I have to agree with Elin, how exactly do you have leftover Rosa Brenda? :rotfl:

:lmao: We were actually drinking a bottle last night while cooking and I had just topped off our glasses as we were trying to figure out how to make up the difference in the cup of champagne we were missing thanks to our little explosion. After we decided on vodka I noticed that there was about half a glass of Rosa left in the bottle and I just dumped in with the champagne and vodka. :thumbsup2

After combining everything, the mix itself now looks a rather pretty grapefruit color.

The invitations came out great!

I'm glad you like it! But I take no credit ... it was all Cass and Nancy. :goodvibes

Slow morning, huh? :goodvibes

It's a gorgeous day here, so we lucked out with great grilling weather for dinner. I think Jay and I are going to go out for a nice long walk ... this kind of weather is unheard of in a Stinktown July. :thumbsup2

It was a gorgeous morning here too, so I took my coffee and my latest JD Robb book out to the patio and had a wonderful time. Hope your walk was just as relaxing!

It's nice but warm here. DD had her tennis lesson at 9am, so I spent that time walking and putting Athletic Booster Club fliers in news boxes. Ok, I walked a lot of it, and then I drove the rest; it's a big neighborhood.

Pork for the BBQ has been cooking all morning and now I'm waiting for it to cool down enough to pull (shred) it. Smells really good :thumbsup2 Guess I better go see what else I'm going to make :rolleyes1

I am hearing rumblings on NikkiBell's "Everything V&A's" thread that foie gras might be available if one asks for it specifically. There is a recent menu posted there listing it with a surcharge. I have asked how recent that menu is and haven't gotten a reply yet...
