Being short!

I'm sad to read some of this thread. I'm 5'8", but dd12 is, and most likely will be, a shorty. She's only 4'8", 65 pounds, and DH's family is really short (his sisters are 5'3", 5', and his mom was only 4'11", and his dad is 5'4"). So far, she is fine with it, but now that a lot of her friends are venturing into junior sizing, and she wears a 7/8 kids, I suspect that it might make her sad (especially since her little sister is now exactly her size).

Oh, and being pregnant at 4'11" was a joy. I looked ready to deliver by 7 months and constantly had to hear, "you're sure it's not twins?" Nope folks, I just had no room to for the baby and it was all straight out in front (My kids were 7 pounds and 8 lbs 10 oz- both singles!). I got put off work at 34 weeks each time because my belly rubbed up against the steering wheel and if I moved the seat back, I couldn't reach the pedals. :rotfl: I guess that one was actually a plus!

OH MY YES!!!! I'm 4'11 too and I was HUUUUUUUGE during my pregnancy! I had people make those dumb comments all the time. I had one coworker sit at my office and tell me that "they" were all very concerned about me and the baby because I was so huge. "Are you sure he's healthy?" Yes! That really did happen! So frustrating!!! I delivered at 35 weeks (premature baby) and he weigh 7lbs 2oz......although I wouldn't want the NICU experience again, I can only imagine just how big I would be if I had made it to 40 weeks :rotfl:

5 foot - I hate always being the shortest . In school , I always had to stand in front to take the class picture. Hated that ! It's quite funny to watch me get the clothes out of the washing machine - I'm half way in it and my feet are dangling off the ground. And at work we have these huge chairs in the conference room and my feet don't touch the ground - I feel like a smurf!! My thirteen year old son thinks it is amusing considering he is 5'6 and I have to look up to speak to him -. Guess I can be glad he won't be short !

I am 5'4, I was 5'5, but I started shrinking when I started having babies. Unfortunately, I not only lost height, I gained shoe size. I started out at the age of 20 at 5'5 and wearing a size 9 shoe, Now 10 (almost 11) years later, I am 5'4 and wear a size 11 shoe!! It is really annoying, because they don't make very many cute shoes in big sizes, plus I hate wearing closed toe shoes because they make me look weird, I hate it! Good thing we live in Florida and I can wear sandals most of the time! My hubby is like 5'8 or so and every once in a while when we go to kiss goodbye or something, he will ask if I have shrunk some more! I am pretty sure all of our kids will be taller than me. I might have to measure them when the older 2 get home from school today! :)

I have so many height nicknames: peanut, little one, tiny, etc. These don't bother me as long as people don't call me "fun sized" or "vertically challenged" .. I'm like, ".. NO I'm adorable!"

An advantage of being little is always getting to be carried - one of my hobbies!
And sometimes getting kids admission prices (for me anyway.. :rolleyes2)
And not having to duck under doorways!
And being a flyer in cheer stunts:cheer2:

So obviously you're a pre-teen/teenager.

Speaking as someone in her 20s, being tiny becomes less cute as you get older. People think you're younger than you are. Swear they're looking at a fake ID when you try to purchase alcohol. Speak to you like a child because they don't understand that you actually are an adult. It's difficult to find professional looking clothing, and buying off the rack without tailoring is nearly impossible (though Ann Taylor and Banana Republic do have good petite sections with business clothing).

That was the worst. When my friends were all wearing Hollister and American Eagle, I was still wearing Limited Too. I don't know why Hollister was such a big deal back then - poorly made clothing that you buy in the dark. But wearing it meant that you were something.

My mother took me to a doctor when I was about 14 to see if there was anything that could be done. Unfortunately, it was too late (had already started period). If you're interested, however, there is a way to delay her period to give her more time to grow, and they can give her medicine. It might sound bad, but at 5' tall, I would appreciate just a few extra inches and a normal adult shoe size (I wear a child's 2). I actually know a few boys who went to doctors for growth. One is now a backup quarterback at the "other" university in my state. He's like 6'something.... his dad is 5'7.

This happens to me all the time!!!:( I've actually had bartenders go as far as to ask me details from the ID or even ask for it twice and compare it to my DBf's. And I've had people tell me I look anywhere from 17, and even once I was told I look 12 :crazy2: People seem so shocked when I tell them I'm in college and I'm always like, "yeah, uh...I'm actually graduating in a couple of months, I'm 22, so..." Everyone says I'll enjoy it later on in life, but right now I'd really like people to believe me when I tell them how old I am and/or order a drink.

Holy cow, those are some tiny feet! My 7 year old daughter wears a 3 1/2 and she's 4'3". DD12 is 5'1" and wears a women's 8!

I wear a child's size 3 which translates into an adult 5. Usually I buy the children's size for flip flops and more casual shoes, although Cinderella of Boston does carry dress shoes and sandals. Have you bought from them? They have pretty nice styles and better still, they fit without Petals and other shoe inserts!

I'm only four months from being 18, but yep! I'm enjoying the "cuteness" while it lasts.

Yeah my mom has been carded in casinos and been told she needed an adult to fly with her when she was getting on an airplane! People think her husband is her dad! She doesn't find it less cute or annoying though; she takes it as a compliment. Plus it's another funny story! If that's the way it's gonna be, why not keep a positive attitude about it and make it fun? :confused3 :goodvibes

Yeah the clothes thing.. that's pretty frustrating, having to hem lots of stuff. I do like Ann Taylor and Banana Republic petite sections. At least hemming is easier than having to order everything online or add length.

i don't mind people thinking I am younger than I am now. It is really nice actually. But then I am in my 50's.

I have used Cinderella of Boston. However, I haven't really been a fan of their catalogs lately. A lot of their shoes are for much older women (not surprisingly, as they have a wide demographic of tiny feet people to cover). They have some good practical shoes, but for fun shoes, I prefer a higher heel.

I'm 5'10 and the guy I'm dating his profile (we met online) said he was 5'9 but on our first date when he picked me up I wore wedges and he jokingly said I thought we agreed no heels??? We went bowling so off came my wedges and on came the bowling shoes where I noticed that even flat footed I was taller than he was so either I'm taller than I realized or he fudged his height. However, one look into his turquoise blue eyes and it didn't matter at all.

After months of dating now he doesn't even blink at the fact that I continue to wear wedges/heals. Summer is coming where we'll be more of the same height...I'll be wearing mostly flip flops and flat sandals.
