So, despite the prolonged showers, extended blow-dry, and extensive makeuping by HMLPS, we somehow managed to arrive at MGM before the gates were open.
We did have a super-early, Moviephone guy-ESPN, non-up-and-at-em wake-up call, after all.
ESPN everywhere. Seas of people wearing football jerseys. But there was a significant undercurrent the undercurrent of CAMO (lilygator? can you confirm???). Rarely have points reached such a high level. We were in the 40s and 50's of pointland (one participant, but not me, so you guys dont want to hear about it, right???) within an hour of arrival. Not sure if this is a commentary about those who love ESPN
my guess is yes. But we got so bored of tallying camo points that the game was arrested for the day!!
We did ToT and RnRC about 3 times each without lines, then did the Little Mermaid. (There were a lot of terrified kids in LM. Ursula is SCARY for a little kid!!! Big and loud and all over the wall
.many moms running out with screaming babies.) When we left LM at around 10:45, the crowds were POURING in. Lines for everything were starting to get pretty long, so we departed. On the way out, we noticed many young women in VERY inappropriate outfits for a theme park. Mainly in terms of SHOE choice. Lots of very high heels. Why would you do that to yourself? I wear high heels to work on occasion, and I can barely tolerate THAT. Why would you want to wear them when you know there is going to be a lot of walking????? I know, they prop up your butt and elongate your line and all that
but when youre at MGM, does that really matter??? At what point does the elongated line lose out for the fact that your feet are bleeding everywhere or falling off???? Even if youre looking to find a guy, I have found that many men really appreciate low maintenance girls
but maybe thats just the guys Ive dated
ah, whatever. More fodder for badshoe.com, right?
My parents and some of their close friends were in the Orlando area for an event that night and expressed interest in seeing us that day one of our close family friends is in an
ECV and cannot transfer to a wheelchair, so we decided to meet them at Epcot if we got together, as that would provide lots of room and many attractions for our friend. At any rate, they called us at this point and were AT Epcot, so we headed over to hang out. We spent a great late am/early afternoon hanging around together we went to a lot of the movie attractions and walked around the WS (keeping drinking to a dull roar so as not to have my dad think were a bunch of lushes). We also rode Soarin one more time with FP, by the way, and my mom wholeheartedly agrees about the Pine Fresh Glade thing!! Mid-afternoon, we bid them farewell, and we took one more spin around WS
WITH beer for DH and I.
I like beer.
We also found a Krispy treat somewhere, but HMLPS was unhappy with it. It was prewrapped. It got eaten anyways.
Now, at this point, you may be asking yourself, WELL???? WHAT ABOUT SCS??? Where are the screaming fights I signed up for? Where is the melodrama? Where is Jerry Springer??? I hate to disappoint you all, but there was almost NO sister-related melodrama on this trip. It was eerie. I dont think I have hung out with SCS since high school (even for a few hours) without at least one rhymes-with-witchy remark. I am not exaggerating. I can tell her she looks good, and she will yell at me not to patronize her (this has actually happened about 5 times). I had gotten to the point where I hardly spoke to her for fear of being screamed at. And nothing happened AT ALL other than vague crabbiness the first day and night. I am not sure if she is still so shellshocked from the broken wedding thing that she cant scream at us yet or if she is going through a big change. Or even a little change. I just dont know. But I was really glad to get along with her for once. So from here on out, we will dub her not-so-somewhat-crabby-sister, or NSSCS.
So, there you have it. It wasn't a soap opera, but maybe you should all be happy that we actually got along for once!!! I suppose if there was a car accident on the side of the road, you'd all slow down to look, too....
As we had overloaded ourselves on camo that morning, we played a rousing game of Spot the Brit instead. Or, rather, my sisters and I played while my hubby sulked. Delightful!
So, we had set aside Sat night as DTD night for shopping! YIPPEE!!! We had a list of things to buy for others (many princess dresses for DHs godchildren to be brought over to the Mother Country at holiday time!!), and of course, I always have a list of things to purchase myself. Its a long list, and there are things on it that I will NEVER get (like an all-designer wardrobe, comfortable Jimmy Choos suitable for walking, and a lottery ticket worth 200 million smackeroonies), but some things, like my yearly Disney Xmas ornament, are utterly doable.
We hopped the bus from BW to DTD, and this brings me to 2 OT things:
1)I am curious about the large number of teenage (cheerleader team??) girls that boarded at the Swolphin. Not just because I dont understand who lets their 15-year-old darling wear clothing and makeup like this (I assume many of them were parent-free for the weekend and temporarily unchaperoned), but the thing I REALLY didnt get not ONE of these girls was carrying a handbag that cost less than $400. I am a handbag girl, and I know. One of them had a Prada one that was at least $700. I went to private school, and I was pretty damned spoiled growing up. But Hades wouldve FROZEN OVER before my mom would have let me teeter around on 4-inch heels with a $700 bag. It was like Clueless, only it was real and on the bus. Can someone weigh in on this with me? What is going on????
2) I am also curious about the bus service to this area. Now, I repeat, we did not have to wait long for a bus, ever. But you gotta admit that the Boardwalk gets to short end of the stick in this regard, speaking from a #-of-stops standpoint alone. They pick up at BW, then YBC, then SD. On the way home, its the reverse. We found that it was WAY faster to get off the bus at the Swolphin and walk back!!! (Now, I guess if having a seat is your priority, you could say that BW is the BEST, though. But I am an impatient girl, and I dont like sitting on that bus when I could be sitting somewhere with a beer!!)
At DTD, we once again sitched our ADRs (we had them for Palio AND Wolfgang Puck Cafe) and had dinner at WP express. It was really great for counter service I had the linguini with chicken bolognese sauce, and the linguine was homemade and perfectly cooked. The beer was good. HMLPS's mashed potatoes were good. My husbands pizza was ALSO good!!! Yum. We then spent a lot of money on princess dresses and Xmas ornaments and a baby Pooh (We have a brand-new nephew, did I tell you??? He was born right after we got back!! That child will be spoiled and Disneyfied...). After this, we went to Ghiardelli, where we packed on some additional fat reserves, as it is still winter up here in Boston. Finally, we caught the slow bus home. The Swophins were nowhere to be seen.
DH and I closed the doors and took a Jacuzzi with a bath ball we had purchased at DTD
aahhhhhh.
(I just reread this, and I realize that I sound crabby myself!!! Maybe I am SCS
I dont begrudge people their shoes
I have many pairs of lovely, pointless, unreasonable shoes
I adore pointless shoes, as they never mind if you are having a fat day - you can ALWAYS look down at your feet and feel beautiful
I guess I just wouldnt plan my trip to Disney and open my closet and say, Hmmmm
.what shoes to bring
what shoes, what shoes???
.AHA!!!! Those with the highest heels, so high that I have to stoop to get through doors, THOSE are the ones to bring
I am really just fascinated, thats all!!)
Back to work. Maybe the WORK is whats making me crabby!!!! What do you think???
