Before or after thanksgiving?

I'm trying to plan a vacation for my family for 2014. Debating between the week prior to Thanksgiving (not the week of Thanksgiving) or the week immediately after Thanksgiving (1st week of Dec.) Both seem to have similar crowd calendars. Does anyone have experiences good/bad about trips either of those weeks. I keep going back and forth.

Not a big difference as you noted. Pop Warner and the Christmas parade taping can be small factors the week after Thanksgiving, but neither have a huge impact on park crowds. (The crowd impact for the parade taping is big but almost entirely localized to Main Street in MK.) I'd just go with whatever fits your schedule best.

We went the week after Thanksgiving a few years ago. I guess the only two cons to that time period (for us) were the weather and the crowds. We went to experience the Christmas decorations, and we certainly got to do that. It was lovely. We also wanted to experience MVMCP, and while nice, and certainly festive, we found the crowds much higher than MNSSHP. The weather for the first four days was lovely-mid 70's. The second four days were rainy and in the 50's to 60's. I don't know if that was an anomaly or if that's normal for the first week in December, but it was not what we expected, nor did it really jazz us. I also don't know if the weather would be significantly different two weeks earlier. So we probably would not travel during that time period again. We love to go during October, but that is not an option for us right now. Good luck!
